Question:
Hello, Finishing up wiring my 7 Way, one of the diagrams suggest that for my 12V, I should use a fuse block or fused battery lead. What would you suggest I go with? My 12V wire is 12 ga, wire. Is a fuse necessary if it is already used at the front of the truck for my 12V? Or is it recommended I install a separate one. If this is the case, what you you recommend for a fuse. Thank you

Expert Reply:
If the truck has a 12V power wire dedicated to the trailer wiring that is already fused, you do not need to add an additional fuse.
For example, on newer GM trucks, the 12V power wire from the factory tow package is ran to a 40 amp fuse in the fuse box. In this instance, it is not necessary to add an additional fuse. If you have to run a new 12V power wire, then we recommend adding a 40 amp circuit breaker, like # 9510, before the battery.
If you would like to let me know the year, make, and model of your vehicle, I will be happy to provide a more specific answer for you.
