Question:

I have a log splitter that the wheels are rusted out and have bought a new set of tires and wheels and the bearing hug that is part of the wheel assembly is far to small to reuse my original bearings. My question is there a wheel bearing set I can buy new that will fit my 1 inch spindle / axle and go inside the 1 1/4 inch wheel bearing hub on my new tire and wheels ? The way to ensure that a new hub will fit a spindle is to match up the bearing set used in the original and replacement hubs. This is best done by matching part numbers. The linked diagram shows the usual placement of bearing part numbers.

If you cannot find bearing numbers then you can measure the spindle to three decimal places using a precision dial or digital caliper; the diagram also shows positions C and D which are the points on the spindle where the inner and outer bearings will ride and these are the dimensions you'd need.

For example, bearing # L44643 which has a 1-inch inner diameter would fit a 1-inch spindle. Once you know the two spindle measurements you can find the bearings that have those same inner diameter dimensions and then check for a hub that uses those bearings. If the bearings' inner diameter fit the spindle and the bearings' outer diameter fit the hub, then the hub will fit. Please note this bearing's outer diameter is 1.980-inches, too large for your 1-1/4-inch hub bore.

Since you are going through the effort to replace your wheels it is a good idea to also use new bearings, races and seals and to re-pack the bearings with grease like # L54FR. Races and seals should also have a part number on them as shown in the diagram. You might care to use a bearing packer like # L70025. I have linked a page for all bearings we offer.
