How to Determine Correct Rise/Drop Ball Mount to Tow a Trailer Level

How do you arrive at the correct coupler height for ball placement ?

Expert Reply:

You want to go with the coupler height that will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. You accomplish this by having the trailer out on level ground and then use the jack to raise/lower the nose of the trailer so that it sits as level as possible. From there you will measure from the bottom of the coupler down to the ground.

Next you will need to measure from the top of the hitch opening on the tow vehicle down to the ground. Whatever the difference is the amount of rise/drop you would need.
