Recommended Maintenance for Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC2
Updated 06/24/2015 | Published 06/22/2015 >
Question:
Hello, I purchased a Convert-A-Ball AM-S-C-2 cushioned ball mount from your company several years ago and was curious if there was a recommended maintenance to perform on this item or a particular lubricant that should be used to keep things moving smoothly and rust free. Mine was showing some signs of rust internally where the polyurethane s ride within the interior of the ball mount so I sprayed and soaked it with WD40 what I had on hand and was curious if there was something else recommended to lubricate it properly. The courtesy of a reply would be appreciated. Thanks! Best regards.

Thank you for your purchases from etrailer back in 2010. I do see you ordered several trailering components such as brake assemblies, bearings and bearing protectors but I did not see the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC2 among them.
In any case, my contact at Convert-A-Ball confirmed that you should NOT use a spray lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster since these products, while very good in certain applications, could contain compounds that are not friendly to the polyurethane shock absorber and could cause it to break down. In actual use, any rust between the inner and outer shank portions will be broken loose the first time you tow again.
If you do wish to lubricate the ball mount you can sparingly use dry graphite.
