Question:
Will HM40975 work for a 2008 Honda Ridgeline ? Just plug and play ? Will the 7 pin receiver I have just plug into the back of this?

If your 2008 Honda Ridgeline came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector it is possible that # HM40975 will fit. You need to look at the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the factory 7-Way. If it looks the same as the back of # HM40975, see picture, then you can use it.
If your Ridgeline did not come with a 7-Way then to add one you will start by installing a 4-Way (unless the truck already has one) using # 118400. Then you will need to install 4- and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
The ETBC7 also includes wiring to install a brake controller. If you need a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up, easy to use, and it is reliable.
