All of the hitches we offer that are confirmed to fit your 2006 Toyota Tacoma with a regular cab would work great, but the hitch we offer that has the most positive reviews and is the most inexpensive is the Curt Hitch part # 13323. I would highly recommend it for you because of that.
I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
To wire your vehicle for towing, you would be able to use custom-fit Tow Ready wiring harness # 118496.
To equip your Tacoma for towing a trailer, you would also need a ball mount, a hitch pin, and a hitch ball. The recommended ball mount for your vehicle would be # C45010, which would place the hitch ball at the most common trailer height. To determine whether this would be appropriate for your particular trailer, you could measure from the ground to a point just below your vehicle bumper, where the hitch would be installed. Then, measure from the ground to the flat bottom of the trailer coupler. The difference between these measurements would be the required rise or drop.
I recommend a locking hitch pin like part # e98880 to secure the ball mount to the hitch. You would use part # 63845 for a 2 inch diameter hitch ball, or part # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter.
I am including links to the instructions for both the hitch and wiring, as well as some additional information on towing in general.
