Backing up a loaded trailer can be tricky when the brakes want to grab. The manual lockout on this actuator solves that by letting you deactivate the brakes with a simple lever. This surge-type actuator synchronizes your trailer’s drum brakes with your tow vehicle’s brakes for consistent, reliable stopping. As you slow down, the actuator telescopes and applies hydraulic pressure through its master cylinder to engage the trailer brakes. Installation is straightforward thanks to the bolt-on design made for a 3" wide channel tongue. With an inside width of 3-1/8" and outside width of 3-1/2", it fits snugly on common 3” x 3”, 3” x 4”, or 3” x 5” trailer tongues. The mounting holes are spaced at standard industry dimensions—3" apart on center horizontally and 2-3/4" apart vertically—so it bolts right up without guesswork or fabrication.
A built-in breakaway kit adds an extra layer of safety in case the trailer ever separates from the tow vehicle. The system automatically engages the brakes if a disconnect occurs, helping bring the trailer to a stop instead of letting it roll away uncontrolled. well made .hitch was missing the master cylinder cover.[black cover dust cover on top of hitch.
worked well as a replacement on my sailboat trailer.
I received the actuator with no manual. Contacted etrailer.com to get the manual and was told they didn't have but would contact UFP. Nothing from UFP. I contacted Dexter, who apparently bought the line from UFP. They don't have it either. I have it installed but am trying to figure out how to bleed the master cylinder. OLD instructions from UFP are NOT accurate.

Awesome coupler.
My trailer is a 1990 and the old coupler was welded on. Had no other option than to weld the new coupler on.
Came out great and works perfectly.

Better than i could imagine. I have hauled my boat all over the valley over the last year and the least of my worries is hooking up the trailer and unhooking after a fishing trip. This coupler is flawless. The use of a surge brake lockout key is a good idea when backing up. All in all I would highly recommend this coupler.
