Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

I couldn't be happier. This wheel and tire combo was a perfect replacement for my old rusty dry rotted whee's and tires. They came ready to go out of the box and they even got delivered 2 days earlier than expected. I will be coming back here the next time I need utility tires.

Still going strong! Ive put several thousand miles on these tires and hardly any signs of wear. I highly recommend them.

by:

I received the tires this afternoon and immediately installed them on my Stainless steal plate Motorcycle trailer. It fits two Harley Motorcycles so the "E" rated 1.650 lbs rating per tire was perfect and great for highway speeds with 87mph rated tires will run smoothly. These are perfect for doing heavy duty hauling at high speeds.

by:

The valve stem cracked on our first outing and the tire went flat on the interstate. Fortunately, we had a Tire Minder that went crazy and we got off the highway immediately. The trailer was behind our fifth wheel and we would not have know it until someone notified us, possibly ruining the axel. That was kind of scary. I was surprised the valve stem was cracked being new.

by:

The wheels work great and they are quality product. UPS dropped the ball and delivered them 2 days after the promised date however but etrailer did great! Thanks!

by:

Fit and work perfectly. Replaced tires and rims for pontoon trailer looks amazing still.

by:

I've purchased several times from etrailer and have never been disappointed by the quality of their products, the speed of their shipping, or their competitive pricing.

by:

Replacement tire for my atv trailer. Perfect fit, no issues. Kenda makes a good tire.

by:

The 205/65-10/lKenda Loadstar white steel wheel/tire combo (item AM3H480) is the upgrade I needed for my 4' x 7' trailer. I can now run highway speeds without fear of tire failure. Speed rated at 87 mph, it takes away the stress out of long distance travel. It's overkill for my little trailer's weight rating requirements, but I don't want any failures at speed when I have my Harley or ATV in tow. Better to be safe than sorry. I recommend this wheel and tire combo for durability, weight and speed rating, and good, simple, clean looks.

by:

The reason I gave a average was because recently I have noticed paint coming off of rims ,tires are fine but rims are loosing paint think since I have had snowmobile trailers for 20 years paint on rims should last longer

by:

Tires work great on my snowmobile trailer. They’ve held up great being out in the elements year round and haven’t lost pressure. Would recommend.

by:

Everything arrived as ordered. They are the spare hub, wheel and tire to use when I travel with my pontoon. I also have all new hubs and tires on my trailer that I ordered from etrailer last summer. Here is a pic of my retirement pontoon that I plan on logging many miles on Midwest rivers.

by:

I replaced tires on my pontoon trailer, which had dry rotted, and it looks like I’ve got dependable tires on the trailer for quite a while.

by:

Not a single issue. They have held up great. Held air throughout the winter months of michigan.

I recently purchased a used pop up camper. It was missing a spare tire and looking online for a replacement was a bit of a challenge. I contacted this company and they were extremely helpful. I received my new spare tire and rim in 3 days. Fantastic!

by:

Fast shipping. Great customer service. Tires/ wheels seem to be good quality. Happy I found them at a better price than other sites or dealers. Will try to report back after I move the pontoon boat to and from the lake.

by:

I want to thank you for the tires and rims. The timely receiving of the tires was greatly appreciated, I would recommend your web site to other people and hope to do business with you again in the furture. Thank you again

by:

The rim and tire fit nicely and are still performing well today! Thank You.

by:

First time ever using etrailer to purchase anything. I can honestly say it will not be my last. Excellent service, price and delivery.. Awesome company to do business with.. Wish I could give them more than 5 stars.. 10 star company for sure.. Thank you etrailer...

Tires shipped fast. Tires look great. Can't wait to put them on my snowmobile trailer.

I bought these tires for my Popup camper a year ago and they are excellent and are holding up great. Ive put 6000 miles on them and they still look new. Highly recommend them!

Ordered 2 tires on rims for my pontoon trailer. I was unable to find any other venders that had the size tire I needed, with the load carrying capacity that I was able to get from etrailer. They came very quickly too!

by:

I ordered six trailer tires on Wednesday and they were delivered on Friday. Can’t believe the speed in which these tires were delivered. Thank you Stacy, my boat is now in route to Florida.

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation to Upgrade From 215/60-8 Tires
In your case I do recommend going with the larger 205/65-10 tire size for a few reasons; you'll have a higher load rating and you'll have a higher speed rating. I will say it's important to make sure you have the tires filled to the proper psi rating on the sidewall of the tire. The photo you sent in looks like you have the tires overinflated which is why you're seeing that wear in the middle of the tread. Hello Dave, thanks for reaching out. The torque spec is mostly determined by the wheel stud size and the wheel size. The reason the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E # AM3H480 you were looking at calls out not being ideal for a boat trailer is due to the wheel, not the tire. The measurement you described wanting for the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H480 sounds like the radius of the wheel and tire which would be the distance from the center of the wheel and tire to the outside of the tire. • Do Trailer Tire and Wheel Combos Come Already Balanced
On the tire and wheel combos that we carry, such as # AM3H480, the manufacturer tries to offset the heavy spot on the wheel with the light spot on the tire for balancing. It takes a special rig to balance trailer tires and wheels that most tire shops do not have access to. This is due in part to how much wheels have changed over the years. The current machines cannot hold trailer wheels properly to ensure they are balanced. Another factor is that trailer wheels do not have to be balanced,...
