Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector

Today, we're going to review part number RM-050. This is the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector. This part will prevent the trailer hitch on your vehicle from digging and dragging on pavement. It is a front-low design which will accommodate many hitches that other rollers will not fit.It is designed for trailer hitches that sit very close to the ground. It has a solid heavy-duty steel roller. When installed on your hitch receiver, this will work with or without a ball mount or a hitch accessory inserted into your hitch.

It does include the pin and the clip. A basic I want to give you an example of how this would insert into a trailer hitchI have an example here. This is a two-inch hitch receiver. Now, this rollaway part is designed for a hitch receiver that has a distance of 2 7/16 between the center of the hitch pinhole and the end of the face of your hitch receiver. At this distance, the support bar, which is right in here and on the bottom, will hold the rollaway tightly in place and level to the hitch receiver.

Now, if this distance on your hitch receiver is less than 2 7/16, there will be a gap between this bar and the hitch. If that gap is less than 1/8 of an inch, it will still work fine. Now, if that gap is more than 1/8 of an inch, you would have to weld shims onto to this or onto the hitch receiver to make it fit properly. What happens here is this would slide onto the front of your trailer hitch. As you can see, the hitch would lay into those support arms that are on there. If I run the pin through here, and as you can see how it lines up and lays in that support arm, this gap here, if there was ...

if that gap is more than 1/8 of an inch, you would have to weld shims on here to make it work correctly. If it's less than 1/8 of an inch, it would work fine. This part does come with the installation instructions which would pretty much mention all that I just talk to you about. That should do it for our review on part number RM-050.

Product was shipped quickly, arrived in good condition, performs as advertised. etrailer personnel were extremely helpful answering questions when reached by phone. A good online commerce experience.

Handled the dip in my driveway. I installed it on the back of my Brinkley Z model. Saved the back from scraping on the concrete.

by:

Does not fit my receiver, needs a better description for various sizes

by:

It’s
Perfect

These hitch rollers are a life saver - no more dragging and cutting asphalt any longer. This is my second purchase, first was on a 39 ft Canyon Star and now on a 30 foot VeraCruz. Roller does "NOT" interfere with the hitch.

I have an area in my driveway that causes my trailer to hit for about 18” of travel. Bought this item thinking that’s all I’d need and first couple times pulling the trailer out and in it worked fine but the roller tightens up and has gouged my concrete. So it’s not working like I thought. I have to loosen the roller every time before use So for me it’s just average. I have purchased a different set up since from etrailer but have yet to use it.

Item works perfectly in my steep driveway, keeps my waste pipe from dragging! Exactly what I needed!

After a year this addition continues to perform as expected. Has saved me several times. Highly recommend!

by:

Trailer skidded sideways. Bought different urethane wheels and put one on each side. Also, not enough clearance between wheel and bracket so it left marks on driveway.

by:

This works very well, I have a bridge that drops off and causes the bumper to rub. This has prevented damage to my camper.

Many products wouldn't fit correctly and this was my last shot before paying thousands to add higher shocks to keep unit from scraping the ground. This product is a game changer, don't think twice about it.

by:

Ive had it a year and it is still robust and working well.

by:

This is a FANTASTIC product. I had one on the Ford transit RV I just sold and I needed a new one for the Ford transit RV am purchasing. Without it the back of the vehicle would drag on the sewer pipe container, pop it open, and my sewer pipe would fall out. With it, If the van is a parking lot at two Sharp and Angle the roller handles it. There

Although I think the product was good, I had to return it as it would not work on my hitch.

by:

I like it! I appreciate Joshua’s help in getting the right part.

by:

Very well made, extra heavy duty, easy install and remove if needed. The fit for a 2” receiver is as advertised. I have a low spot when I enter the roadway where the hitch drags, this has fixed it. Looking forward to many years of severe.

It is a great product, it is doing what is was purchased for, my hitch no longer dragged the ground and because of the heavy duty design I expect to get a lifetime of use. Very pleased.

by:

Nice solid, well built. But didn’t fix my problem, pulling out of my driveway slightly downhill , would still hit pavement and drag causing damage. Was hitting on the side brackets that hold wheel.

I checked and we do not have another product to offer that would provide a different solution.

I installed this on my Class C Motorhome, and it has been great! No more dragging the hitch across driveways and inclines. Highly recommend.

by:

Installation could not be simpler, pull hitch pin, set it in place and slide in new longer pin. I now have piece of mind that I won't be damaging my tow bar or hitch going into some gas stations. I was thinking about bolting a Nylon skid plate to my hitch until a friend showed me the rollaway. Great device.

by:

The trailer hitch roller device fit perfectly the first time, no tools required and was done in less than 2 minutes. A high crown on the street caused my trailer hitch to gouge the pavement as I was backing out of my driveway. The roller works exactly as advertised and saves both the street pavement and the trailer hitch on the back of my 36 ft. class A motor-home.

by:

We have a trailer hitch on the rear of our 32 foot 5th wheel (used primarily for bike rack) and it drags when we turn into our "sharp up-hill turn" driveway. This item is very sturdy and well made. Easy to install and fits well. Looks like it will take the pressure off the bottom of the hitch and prevent dragging. Will know after our next camping trip next month. E-trailer has always shipped promptly and items arrive well packaged and undamaged.

by:

I have not yet used the hitch skid wheel. I was however able to fasten on a 4 inch skid wheel around the hitch itself. I was then able to back my 5th wheel down the driveway with no issues!! Needless to say there was no to return those wheels!! I will also be keeping the hitch skid wheel JIC!! Thanks!!

by:

Easy order process and happy with shipping process.

It works so well I had to refinish the roller

by:

Despite being cautioned that this device might not be strong enough to take the load created by the motorhome hitch dragging on steep entrance/exit inclines to gas stations or plazas etc, it has stood up well when entering or exiting slowly.

by:

Delivered as ordered, exact part and undamaged!
More
importantly it was delivered promptly, I had ordered the same part and Skirting from another retaier. it was ordered in June, we finally cancelled and ordered from etrailer, arrived days later. Thank you.

by:

Just what I needed to fix the rubbing of the trailer hitch.

  • Is the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector Heavy Duty Enough for Use on a 37 Ft Motor Home
Yes, the Rollaway Hitch Protector, # RM-050, should be plenty heavy enough to work on your 37 foot motorhome and keep the hitch from dragging when you back into your driveway, as long as the dip you have is not so deep that it is bending the hitch receiver or side plates. If your dip is so extreme that the hitch is bending, this type of item would only make the situation worse. To use the Rollaway Hitch Protector you will need to make sure that the support bar, see short video, is not...

The Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 will likely work with your trailer hitch that has the tabs on the bottom of the receiver as there does not look like there is going to be any interference. So long as the tabs are completely on the bottom of the receiver you should be fine.

Thanks for the pictures! The Ultra-Fab Hitch Mounted Steel Rollers for RVs w/ 2-1/2" Hitch Tubing # UF48-979017 would work great for your 2022 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLGS, and would eliminate the dragging you're experiencing. Adding the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 that you mention is not necessary as the steel rollers will prevent the hitch from bottoming out.

  • Will The Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector Work On Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier?
Thanks for reaching out, Jim. After looking at your pictures, it looks like the Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 will not work with the Roadmaster spare tire carrier. Like you said the clearance looks very tight and the pin hole likely will not line up. It would be very close though. If you really need a skid wheel, I suggest trying the Ultra-Fab Steel Roller # UF48-979020. You will likely need to modify the bracket slightly in order to make it work. I prefer this...

  • When Adjusting the Bunks on an EZ Loader Trailer Do I Want the Bunk Brackets Loose?
Hey there Bill, When adjusting the bunks on your EZ Loader trailer, tighten the swivel brackets securely but not excessively. They should allow slight movement to self-adjust as the boat loads, ensuring even contact with the hull. However, they shouldn't be so loose that the bunks shift significantly. A little flexibility helps with proper alignment, but excessive movement can cause instability. After loading the boat, check that it sits evenly without undue pressure points and make adjustments...

That meaning the trailer you pull cannot be more than 3,500lbs fully loaded. I would recommend double checking your owners manual cause there is a chance your specific vin may be different. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For a 2023 Kia Carnival Least Likely to Scrape on Driveway
Personally I feel the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e36KR will be the least visible receiver for your 2023 Kia Carnival. The design of this is similar to the Curt # C67ER but uses a matte black finish allowing it to blend in better with the factory trim. • Skid Wheel Needed for Coupler with Safety Chains Loops in the Way of Hitch Pin Mounted Wheel
Since the location of your hitch pin hole and the safety chain tabs don't allow you to use a skid wheel like part # UF48-979020 or # RM-050, the only other option that may work is if you welded a skid wheel like part # UF48-979021 onto the bottom of your hitch receiver. The Roadmaster Rollaway Trailer Hitch Protector # RM-050 is my recommendation for you which will work with or without an accessory installed in the hitch receiver.
