Protect your rig from scraping on steep driveways, gas station aprons, and ferry ramps with hitch mount skid wheels. If your receiver has chain tabs, check that the tabs sit completely on the bottom of the receiver to avoid interference.
Usually no—hitch-mounted steel rollers can eliminate the dragging that leads to damage. First, identify where you're making contact; if the rollers cover those points, an extra protector isn't needed. If an approach is so steep it's bending the hitch, adding more hardware can make it worse.
Install can be quick; some setups take minutes to bolt on and grease. Keep the roller greased so it spins freely, and verify hardware stays tight. If a bolt head with a recessed grease zerk seems weak, replace it with a 1/2" grade 8 as noted by an installer, but you'll lose the ability to grease through the bolt. For rollaway-style units, keep the support bar within 1/8" of the receiver or shim it.
Most hitch-mounted skid wheels are made for 2" or 2-1/2" hitch tubing. If your hitch tubing is 3", options with U-bolts are not available and a weld-on style is the better route. Confirm your receiver size before ordering and measure the outside of the hitch tubing where the brackets clamp.
They can, as long as the tabs are completely on the bottom of the receiver and don't interfere with the brackets or rollers. Check for enough space around the tabs and the hitch corners before tightening everything down. If space is tight, mock up the position first to verify clearance.
