Ordering was very easy, the website pretty straight forward. I made an error ordering the wrong size anti-rattle clamp. I got a call letting me know and help getting the right part ordered. Kudos to customer service for checking and following up. Saved me a lot of trouble. The hardware is top notch and heavy duty. My only complaint is how the hitch was shipped. The hitch is very heavy and it was basically just placed in the box with nothing securing it or cushion on the pointy bits. The receiver was poking out and has paint scuffed off in a few spots. Everything is perfectly serviceable I'll jut have to watch out and maybe put some paint over the areas so it doesn't rust.

by:

I ordered and attached the hitch receiver to my 2025 subaru Forester. It was a straight forward install including wiring.Because it’s under mount hitch receiver, I was able to retain the foot-activated rear hatch open/close function hitch comes in handy - that function is eliminated with a factory hitch/receiver installed. This is the 7th hitch/receiver i have purchased from etrailer. Ordering and shipping is straight forward with great customer support.

2025 Subaru Forester

Had this hitch installed for me by Pit Stop Auto Repair. I was concerned about the hitch interfering with the kick sensor. It does clear the sensors and the kick function works normally. Big savings over Subaru part.

Trailer was received very quickly.
I
just installed it a few weeks and and it went very smoothly. The videos on the eTrailer web site helped a lot.

Glad we had the right fit for you John, and that our videos were helpful with the install. What do you mainly use the hitch for?

by:

Bolted up perfectly follow the instructions and it worked great same with the 4pin wiring harness the hardest part was drilling the frame for the center holes the wire and coil springs made holding the bolts in place the easiest

by:
Subaru Forester

It was a little tricky to install on my 2024 Subaru Forester, but it was still a manageable DIY project. I have been pleased with the hitch overall. I have only used the hitch for a hitch-mounted bicycle rack.

by:

The installation was easy, about an hour total. I've been pulling a kayak trailer every week the weather has been nice and everything has been fine. I couldn't be happier overall. Additionally , I like the look of how it's recessed under the bumper, it's barely noticeable without the hitch installed.

2020 Subaru Forester

Hitch receiver arrived quickly and without damage. The etrailer videos are very helpful. Successfully installed on 2020 Subaru. Took longer than expected due to my available tools (particularly needing to have a metal grinding dremel bit to widen the access hole on the frame). But overall straightforward. Tip: leave the fishing wires on the bolts (all 6 of them) for the next steps after you get your carriage bolts seated. Had to put them all back on. Very helpful to have another person hold the hitch receiver up when bolting it on.

Working perfectly a year later, held up well to midwest snow and salted roads

This is my third hitch mount from etrailer for various cars/trucks I've owned. Quality is top-notch and instruction videos were very thorough. They also bolstered the packaging in response to some other reviews I saw where the box was damaged in shipping. Mine arrived in perfect condition. Special thanks to the other reviewers who suggested simply unbolting the muffler rather than dropping the entire exhaust and the ones who zip-tied the hitch to a floor jack for raising it into place. Just use 2+ zips if you do or the ties might break while you're raising it like mine lol.

Less than 3 hours from start to finish. I probably spent more time with setup/cleanup/and waiting for paint to dry on the frame holes I ground out than anything else.

by:

The hitch receiver works as expected. All parts included in the packaging and a straight forward install. That’s about as good as it gets!

by:

well built high quality hitch. Came with all hardware needed and detailed instructions.
Very prompt delivery. I highly recommend etrailer.com

2024 Subaru Forester

I'm dissatisfied with packaging, install video and return. First, as you can see the box was not in good condition when I received it. I discarded the box before I decided to return the product as I did not think it was reusable. I have a 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Second, You have to remove the plastic panel on the drivers side to access the frame rail. The video stops short for the reattachment of this panel which you can't do, and it's not a part you want half attached. You can't screw two important points of the panel back onto the frame rail because the hitch covers those holes. Third, I decided to return it and had to pay UPS $24 for a box. Customer service would not provide a pack and ship label. I won't be back to this site as a result of this experience.

Joy was super helpful and friendly. Got my hitch very quickly. It took me less than 2 hours to install. This is my fourth hitch I put on my new Forester. The dealer quoted me $750 to install a hitch. I paid $166 for the hitch and saved a ton of money. I highly recommend Etrailer

by:

Tried ordering this hitch on amazon 2x with both orders getting lost so I ordered from trailer at same price and had it 3 days later. Install was straight forward thanks to video from etrailer.

When I told a friend that I needed a trailer hitch to accommodate the bicycle rack I wanted to buy, he recommended etrailer.com. It turned out to be a great decision. They were friendly, professional, and helpful. The trailer hitch is perfect, and the mechanic who installed it for me agreed. I highly recommend etrailer, and also this hitch.

I have had zero problems with this product after one year. I may be selling my SUV. If I purchase another, I wont hesitate to buy this etrailer product again.

by:

Excellent quality. The clean welding, finish, and gloss paint make this barely seen Curt tow hitch disappear! Installation with bumper cover removal was two plus hours, but no surprises! This product should sell for double the purchase price.

by:

The trailer hitch installed perfectly. Just as described in your extremely helpful installation video.
My only negative is with UPS shipping. They took longer than promised to deliver. And the package was extremely damaged. Thankfully the hitch wasn't damaged. Thank you etrailer for an excellent product and installation info. Very happy with my purchase

The overall quality of the receiver and the ease of installation was excellent. Your installation videos took all of the guesswork out of the process. Shipping was fast and although the box was damaged from the weight of the receiver, everything arrived intact. I am very pleased with this purchase and with all of my interactions with etrailer.

Etrailer is my Go-To online shop for anything Trailer or Cargo related. They have great prices, fast shipping, and great videos showing us the installation process. As for this product, Curt always makes great Hitches and they never disappoint. For home installers, use a floor jack to lift and hold the Hitch in place while you bolt the rack.

by:
2020 Subaru Forester

Perfect fit. The installation video was great, much better than the manufacturer’s instructions. I installed the hitch on my 2020 Subaru Forester in my garage by myself. Took 2 1/2 hours. I used two 8” plastic boxes to support the hitch when I was ready to attach it to the frame. That made the last lift up to the bolts much easier because it was only a 3-4” lift. Only discrepancy I found in the 2019 video was that my 2020 Forester has an extra clip in the driver’s side wheel well holding up the plastic panel. It delayed me just a bit until I figured out why the panel was balky. I also installed the https://www.etrailer.com/Custom_Fit_Vehicle_Wiring/Curt/C56040.html wiring harness. It snapped right in and was a 10 minute job. Easy!

  • Should I Get a Hidden Hitch for my 2023 Subaru Forester Touring
Hey Ryan, so both style of hitches that you referenced are going to work great for carrying a bike rack. The differences that you'd want to weigh would be do you prefer the more hidden look of the hitches like the Curt part # C47HR which is more intricate to install or are you okay with a more visible hitch that happens to install a little bit easier like the Curt # C13409. The more hidden hitch is a bit more expensive too. If I were you I'd check out the two pictures of the vehicles...

  • What Hitch do You Recommend for My 2022 Subaru Forester?
Definitely! The main factors that determine the hitch are hitch receiver opening size (either 1-1/4" or 2"), weight capacity offered, and how the hitch installs on your vehicle. For example, if you are looking for a hitch that is compatible with most accessories and provides you with the most weight capacity, I recommend going with a 2" hitch like the Curt Hitch - 2" # C13409. Not only does this hitch provide you with the most weight capacity we offer for your vehicle (525 maximum tongue...
