Recommended Hitch for a 2023 Subaru Forester

Updated 10/20/2026 | Published 10/17/2026

Question:

Im inquiring about a class 3 hitch for a 2022 Subaru Outback. Part C13409 says that the tongue weight is 525lbs. Im wondering if this hitch would safely allow me to haul a dirtbike on the back of my Subaru Forester. My hitch rack weighs 60lbs and my dirtbike weighs right around 240lbs.

Hey Michael. To add a hitch to a 2023 Subaru Forester, I recommend the etrailer item # e83ZR. It's built to the same specifications and standards as the Curt item # C13409 but will save you some money and it'll blend in better beneath your rear trim.

The etrailer item # e83ZR and item # C13409 hitches have a 525 lbs weight capacity but that doesn't mean your Forester will when you install a hitch. I looked online and the tongue weight capacity of a 2023 Forester ranges from 150 lbs - 350 lbs so without knowing what specific trim you have, I can't say for certain whether your 300 lbs bike rack and dirt back will work safely.

What specific model is your Subaru Forester and what kind of dirt bike do you have? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

I have towed my Polaris four wheeler on a single axle trailer for a couple hundred miles on several occasions. A combined weight of about 1000 lbs. No problems. I periodically check to make sure the hitch bolts are tight. We also haul a couple of electric bikes on occasion. Works well. Good luck
