Question:

I actually think I will go with getting a trailer hitch and work with those options instead. Just seems so much more stable and vehicle friendly (and of course more complex and expensive). Thanks for the help on the trunk mounted options - new research needed for the hitch options !

The Hollywood Rack Over the Top Bike Rack # HRF2 is a fit for your 2019 Subaru Forester and would work well, but due to how involved it is to install and the fact I believe there's a better option available with the Yakima FullBack # Y02634 it is not my best recommendation I can make for you.

I attached a picture of the Fullback installed on a Forester like yours and you can see that the straps to over the spoiler of your vehicle and won't put pressure on it. This will be much easier to install, is lockable, easier to store, and easier to load/unload so I recommend it highly.

A hitch mounted bike rack is the way to go. It's much more stable and doesn't touch the vehicle paint at all. For a hitch the Curt # C13409 is the way to go as it has plenty of capacity and installs easily. For a bike rack the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider part # HR200Z is very stable and easy to use. It's a platform 2 bike rack which is the load and unload. I attached a review video for more info as well.
