Trailer Hitch That Won't Interfere With 2025 Subaru Forester Limited Kick Sensor

Updated 07/15/2025 | Published 07/10/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Subaru Forester Limited and was looking for a hitch that wont interfere with the foot switch. Looks like the Curt Model 13409 may work. Is this correct? I was going to use it mainly for one or two bikes, a small cargo carrier and maybe a camper in the future. My local repair shop will install it, I just need to get the right part. Thank you for your help. Your website is very informative.

Hey Jeff! The Curt # C13409 will not completely block the kick sensor on your 2025 Subaru Forester Limited. However, I would expect to have to place your foot on either side of the receiver to activate it. The same is true for any hitch you choose to install on your vehicle.

Also, this does have a visible cross tube hanging down. A hitch like the Curt # C47HR will work as well and has a nice clean look with a concealed cross tube and better clearance. Check it out in the attached photo.

Since you mentioned a camper you might want to go ahead and install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040 while you're at it. This will give you a 4-way to power a trailer's signal lights or lights on any accessories if you have them.

What kind of bikes/bike rack do you have?

Hi Robin, thanks for your reply. I was looking to get a Saris Freedom 2 Bike Rack. I was also looking at The Eco-Hitch 306-X7391. On their website they claim it doesn't block the sensor. There is a big difference in price and was wondering if the Eco Hitch is better that the Curt? Is there a price difference on installation also? Thanks for all your help. This is my first hitch. A lot to learn.

@JeffW according to Subaru the area for the sensor to operate is 4" below the bumper and 16" wide, so 8" out to each side of the center. The way that receiver on the # 306-X7391 sits it won't be blocking the sensor and you can expect it to work as intended when you wave your foot underneath. The Curt # C47HR has almost the exact same design so I expect the same to be true. EcoHitch almost always carries the higher price tag because of the recycled alloy construction.
