Simple, Hidden Design

Blue Ox Base Plate With Arms AttachedBlue Ox Base Plate Arms Removed

This base plate's hidden design creates a clean and seamless look. The bracket arms are easily removable, creating a slick appearance when you're not flat towing. Because the arms can be removed, you also won't have to worry about banging your leg into any protruding arms when you walk by.

Blue Ox Base Plate Removable Arms

Attaching and removing the bracket arms is a breeze. To attach the arms to the base plate, simply insert them into the receivers and rotate them until they lock into place. Once you're finished towing and want to remove the arms, pull the pin to disengage the lock, rotate the arms, and remove them from the receivers. Finally, plug up the now empty receivers with the included receiver covers to help keep dirt and debris out of the base plate and provide a finished look.

Guide to Flat Towing

Flat towing your vehicle is much more convenient than using a trailer or a tow dolly. These other options take up much more storage space, leaving you less room both at home and at the campsite. In addition, securing your vehicle to a trailer or tow dolly can be a hassle and more time consuming than hooking up with a tow bar.

There are 5 basic components needed when flat towing a vehicle: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a supplemental braking system.

Towing Basics

The tow bar links your towed car to your motorhome. It attaches to the custom-fit base plates that install on the frame of your towed car. Safety cables ensure that your towed car does not separate from your motorhome in the event that your tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring allows your towed vehicle's signal lights to sync up with your motorhome's tail lights, which is required by law in most states. Finally, the supplemental braking system - also required in most states - brakes your towed car when the brakes in your motorhome are activated, preventing wear on the motorhome and decreasing braking distance for your entire setup.

Order arrived in record time and as ordered. I went through this process last week with another company and what a mess they did not answer any emails and when it arrived they had shipped the wrong kit. I have returned at my expense, bad experience. rating 1 etrailer.com gets a 10. Keep up the good work .

  • Recommended Tow Bar Compatible with Blue Ox Base Plates for 2005 Mini Cooper
To pair with your Blue Ox # BX1303 base plates I recommend using the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # e47ZR. This is a high quality non-binding tow bar at a great price point. The etrailer SD has telescoping and self aligning arms to allow for fast and easy hook up on any surface, so it's also easy to use.

To use your Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1303 on your 2004 Mini Cooper you simply need the Roadmaster Tow Bar to Blue Ox Brackets Adapter # RM-031. If you are missing any of these pieces please let me know and I can make some recommendations for you. Be sure to follow any specific...

For your 2008 Mini Cooper S hard top, the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1303 is not the correct fit. It is only designed for 2002-2006 Mini Cooper hard top and 2007-2008 Mini Cooper convertible models. Blue Ox does not have a compatible base plate for your S hard top but I do have a solution for you. No worries. You can use the Blue Ox # BX1303 tow bar, and then use a # BX88178 adapter. The adapter will allow your Demco Aluminator, Excali-bar or Kwik-Tow towbar to work with the Roadmaster base plates. To complete your flat towing system, you'll also need safety cables like # RM-643. You will also need a lighting solution so the lights on the towed vehicle work in tandem with those of the RV. Custer offers a simple wireless solution, part # LIW-LDTL. Hi Sean, I was able to use the VIN you sent me separately to determine that your 2015 Coachmen Leprechaun 319 DS on a Ford E-450 chassis would require the Roadmaster Exact Center Steering Stabilizer w/ Custom Brackets # RM47MR. Before installing this you'll want to make sure that your alignment is straight otherwise the steering stabilizer could pull to one side and give you are harder time.

If you haven't already check your owner's manual and make sure there aren't any restrictions preventing your 2006 Mini Cooper S from being able to be flat towed. The Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # 521876-1 will fit your Mini as long as you have a convertible. If you have a hardtop then you'll need the Blue Ox Kit # BX1303. • Does Blue Ox Base Plate Fit Mini Cooper S
Yes it does! I confirmed with Blue Ox that the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1303 does in fact fit the 2005 Mini Cooper S. It does require a compatible tow bar, and for that I recommend the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Tow Bar # BX7380 for tow bar that gives you the most bang for your buck. • Is The Roadmaster Base Plate Compatible With Blue Ox Tow Bar On a 2003 Mini Cooper S?
Yes, you can install the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521876-1 on your 2003 Mini Cooper S. This is a much stronger mount in my opinion also than the Blue Ox # BX1303. To use the Roadmaster base plate with your Blue Ox Tow Bar # BX4375 you will need a couple parts. First the base plate requires a Crossbar # 910021-00 to strengthen the front mounts and tie them together. Then you only need the Adapter # RO64FR that you can leave attached the crossbar. The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire...

  • Should 2005 Mini Cooper with Manual Transmission be in Gear or Neutral for Towing Behind Motorhome
According to page 137 of the owner's manual it looks like you can only use a tow dolly to tow your 2005 Mini Cooper if it has an automatic transmission. Since you have a manual transmission you need to flat tow it otherwise you will damage the transmission. The manual doesn't say anything about what gear to put your vehicle in but I would imagine it is neutral. You will want to confirm this with your local Mini dealer. That's a good question, and for your 2003 Mini Cooper, the biggest difference between the Blue Ox # BX1303 and Roadmaster # 521876-1 base plates is indeed the tow bars that are compatible. While technically there are adapters that make them cross-compatible, that is an extra step and honestly just more work for you.
