1-7/8" SAE shallow socket with a 3/4" drive should be used with a compatible socket wrench (sold separately) to apply torque when installing a hitch ball on a ball mount or weight distribution head. Steel construction resists corrosion.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eights three-quarter-inch drive socket, part number ALL643216. This socket is ideal for tightening down hinge balls to ball mounts, or weight distribution heads. It's a three-quarter inch drive, so you need to be sure that you have a three-quarter inch drive torque wrench, or an adapter. It's a twelve point oversized socket, and it's built to exceed tool standards. This socket features a lifetime warranty. Now let's go ahead and show you how to use it in a typical situation. We've got our weight distribution system here and we need to torque down our ball.
In order to gain access to it, we're going to go ahead and flip it over, so we can gain access to the nut. As you can see, putting a pipe wrench down there, or any other type of wrench, would be virtually impossible. That's where this socket comes in handy. Lets go ahead and drop the socket in, make sure it gets situated. Then we can take our torque wrench and put it into position.
We'll want to set the torque wrench to whatever our manufacturer recommends for our ball mount. Now we can immobilize the other side of our ball, and begin torquing. If need be, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands to hold your other wrench. Looks like we've got it. Now we can flip it over and continue setting up our weight distribution, or, if this was just a standard ball mount, we'd be ready to tow. That's going to complete our look at the Powerbuilt inch-and-seven-eighths socket with a three-quarter-inch drive, part number ALL643216.
Does the job!
Socket fits the standard 1 1/2 inch nut on a 2 inch trailer ball.
Great communication and fast shipping.
Just what I needed to torque the hitch ball to 450 ft lbs on my Curt weight distribution hitch (per install instructions), along with a capable torque wrench. You will also need a 1-7/8 wrench to hold the hitch ball from turning. To make it easier, I turned the hitch 90 degrees so as to torque with downforce and used a floor jack to hold the wrench in place. See photos for my solution.
Definitely way cheaper than the Equalizer 1-7/8” socket and did the job.
Perfect socket, perfect shipping and delivery. Remarkable tracking!
I’d tried several sockets without any luck for the trailer ball on my equalizer hitch. I read about this socket and it works perfectly. No more fear of my hitch ball not being torqued enough.
Review for the thin wall 3/4" drive 1 7/8" socket. This was needed for torquing a hitchball to a weight distribution head. The thin wall was just narrow enough to slip onto the nut down in the head. It was snug but came off after torque was set with abit of care. If you have a tight work space such as l did on this application, you must use a thin wall socket. Product appears quality & should last yrs. 5 stars for product & timely shipping from etrailer...

One year update. After using the socket for the last year to check torque, all is as l would hope. No problems using to keep a check on the 430ft pounds required by manufacturer. Looks new. Has a good finish on the socket. No rust marks anywhere. Expected to last years with care.
It is nearly the same dimensions of the 1-7/8" socket from my 3/4" drive set. Wall thickness and all. Except this is 12 point and my set is 6 point. The one I received says "POWERBUILT" not "etrailer".
USPS damaged my package and lost the item. I reached out to etrailer immediately to let them know. Without hesitation they shipped me another item right away and was i was able to complete the job right on time.

Great

The Equalizer products are great….the shipping of 65 pound of Equalizer parts in a 1 cubic foot box, not so much. The UPS driver had a hard time carrying the box to our porch. When he set it down it had a 4” hole in the corner and the 1-3/4” socket was in his hand that had fallen out and, we learned later upon opening the box, the lubricant was missing (see attached photos). To expect anyone to pick up a 65 pound loaded cardboard box with no hand holds is unrealistic thus, the reason for the hole in the box and missing lubricant.
I was impressed with the quality of the hitch and the quick delivery. Also, a call to etrailer explaining my missing lubricant was handled with courtesy and understanding with replacement lubricant headed my way. EXCELLENT customer service….thanks!
This is a must have socket for trailer ball hitches. We install equalizer w/s and could not be done without this socket, Etrailer has great prices and fast shipping. I highly recommend
Supposed to fit E2 round bar hitch ball but does not fit between the bar slots.
A very nice, well made socket. Fits the nuts on my trailer ball hitches perfectly.
Could not find this size anywhere and this socket is perfect! I did have to get an adapter to fit my 1]2 in drive breaker bar, though.
I had to return the item. I bought it to tigten the nut on the ball for the equalizer weight distrubution hitch that I bought from etrailer. The WDH is great. But the etrailer socket was too thick, and I had to get the equilizer socket. But I think it was a bit much that only equilizers thin walled socked would work on for the install and that socket was VERY expensive.
etrailer worked to resolve my missing package with follow-up emails, and direct Customer Support. I received my Powerbuilt Socket Thin Walled 1-7/8" - 3/4 and product woks just it should. Thank you.
Does everything it’s supposed to do, holds up to the torque required.
Quality socket. I saw some bad reviews saying this won't fit the recessed Equalizer hitch ball nut. Well, you've got to pivot the 2 bar pockets in the head out of the way, then it fits perfect. These aren't easy to move on a new hitch, so get something strong, with plenty of leverage.

Used it once to attach the ball. Will probably include it with the Equalizer hitch when I sell it.
This was supposed to be a thin wall socket needed to torque the hitch ball on the equalizer hitch system. Outside diameter of the socket is too big And did not work.Luckily I was able to find a shop 20 miles away from me that was able to mount the hitch ball and torque it correctly For a fee. Wish I would’ve save the money on the socket to go towards paying to get it done.

I reached out to the manufacturer and they have not had consistent reports of this socket being incompatible with Equalizer balls. Equalizer does make a socket that is made for their WD systems. It is part # EQ70-00-4800. It is important to use a ratchet with a three quarter in socket for installation.
Looks ok so far so good.
Fits the Equalizer trailer system 14,000lb hitch ball bolt perfectly inside the Equalizer hitch head!
And who doesn't like "perfect" with a $40 savings over the Equalizer socket price.

Have pulled my 12,000lb toyhauler over 8,000 miles with the new ball and Equalizer system and some of the highways got surprisingly rough with no warning, which really took our rig on a bit of a roller coaster ride a few times but the ball and hitch system worked perfectly. Still like my purchase after putting it through some real world conditions.
