Video Transcript for What to Know About the 1-1/2" 12pt Socket

Jeff Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Powerbuilt 3/4 inch drive by 1 1/2 inch 12 point socket. Now, this 1 1/2 inch SAE socket will help you apply torque when you're installing a hitch ball. It is a 12 point design socket. And as we mentioned, it is compatible with a 3/4 inch drive socket wrench.

This has a nice, mirror-polished, chromium-vanadium steel construction, which resists corrosion. It is cold forged and heat treated. And if you notice on the side, the labels are engraved for quick identification of the size. This is compliant with the ANSI standards. Few specs again, the socket size is 1 1/2 inches.

The drive size is a 3/4 inch. Now, the overall diameter on this, just to give you some measurements to make sure it fits your application, about two inches overall diameter. And the length of it is right at 2 3/8 inches. But that should do it for the review on the Powerbuilt 3/4 inch drive by 1 1/2 inch 12 point socket..

Socket fits the standard 1 1/2 inch nut on a 2 inch trailer ball.

Does the job!

etrailer worked to resolve my missing package with follow-up emails, and direct Customer Support. I received my Powerbuilt Socket Thin Walled 1-7/8" - 3/4 and product woks just it should. Thank you.

by:

I had to return the item. I bought it to tigten the nut on the ball for the equalizer weight distrubution hitch that I bought from etrailer. The WDH is great. But the etrailer socket was too thick, and I had to get the equilizer socket. But I think it was a bit much that only equilizers thin walled socked would work on for the install and that socket was VERY expensive.

by:

The Equalizer products are great….the shipping of 65 pound of Equalizer parts in a 1 cubic foot box, not so much. The UPS driver had a hard time carrying the box to our porch. When he set it down it had a 4” hole in the corner and the 1-3/4” socket was in his hand that had fallen out and, we learned later upon opening the box, the lubricant was missing (see attached photos). To expect anyone to pick up a 65 pound loaded cardboard box with no hand holds is unrealistic thus, the reason for the hole in the box and missing lubricant.
I was impressed with the quality of the hitch and the quick delivery. Also, a call to etrailer explaining my missing lubricant was handled with courtesy and understanding with replacement lubricant headed my way. EXCELLENT customer service….thanks!

by:

Quality socket. I saw some bad reviews saying this won't fit the recessed Equalizer hitch ball nut. Well, you've got to pivot the 2 bar pockets in the head out of the way, then it fits perfect. These aren't easy to move on a new hitch, so get something strong, with plenty of leverage.

by:

Review for the thin wall 3/4" drive 1 7/8" socket. This was needed for torquing a hitchball to a weight distribution head. The thin wall was just narrow enough to slip onto the nut down in the head. It was snug but came off after torque was set with abit of care. If you have a tight work space such as l did on this application, you must use a thin wall socket. Product appears quality & should last yrs. 5 stars for product & timely shipping from etrailer...

by:

I purchased an unusual hitch [RP66560] that wouldn't allow a standard wrench to tighten the nut for the hitch ball. This product was absolutely necessary for installation and the price was very fair.

by:

Just what I needed to torque my hitch ball down. Worked perfectly!

by:

This was a lot of socket for the money. It did what it needed to do.

by:

as advertised, all good

by:

The socket worked great with my equalizer hitch ball installment its thin walled but very strong

by:

I have not recieved this item yet

by:

Great product. Worked great. Thanks

by:

Exactly what we were looking for an we had not been able to find it anywhere else! Quality is great!

by:

Received correct one. Should do the tri ck.

by:

Gets the job done.
My one complaint is
that the agent didn't advise me on getting a socket. So I ended up paying shipping just for the socket.
Don't buy the overly priced socket from

by:

This is a great socket, I just ordered the wrong one. I’ll return it which I’m sure will be just as quick and easy as their shipping is. I really like how fast everything was shipped out and the updates.

by:

This was supposed to be a thin wall socket needed to torque the hitch ball on the equalizer hitch system. Outside diameter of the socket is too big And did not work.Luckily I was able to find a shop 20 miles away from me that was able to mount the hitch ball and torque it correctly For a fee. Wish I would’ve save the money on the socket to go towards paying to get it done.

by:

Great customer service This is why I do my business with etrailer They BELIEVE in customer satisfaction!!!

by:

Fits the Equalizer trailer system 14,000lb hitch ball bolt perfectly inside the Equalizer hitch head!

And who doesn't like "perfect" with a $40 savings over the Equalizer socket price.

THANKS etrailer.com

by:

This socket was a must have for my hitch

by:

Amazing quality and worked perfectly on my 14000 lb Equalizer Distribution hitch.. was a 60 second tighten, and was worried this thin wall socket wouldnt fit (silly me)

I purchased a 24ft 3/4 drive torque wrench and that did the trick.

Definitely keeping this aboard on my travel trailer.

by:

Socket performs as expected. I use to to install or replace the ball on certian W/D hitches

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For V-Nose Trailer
Thank you for providing that picture and measurement. Based on what you have there there is definitely enough room to install a weight distribution hitch. I recommend the Fastway e2 which will require placing the brackets 27-30" back along the frame, leaving you with room to spare. The correct system will depend on the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # e99044. I have also attached an article below which covers other ways...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Somerset E3 Pop Up Camper
That answer you looked at is a bit confusing and I think it gave you the wrong idea about weight distribution. A weight distribution hitch should not be selected based on your tow vehicle. The most important thing is making sure your loaded tongue weight falls into the tongue weight range of the hitch. I don't know what year or exact model you have but I'm guessing 268 lbs is the dry tongue weight. You will need to measure to see what your loaded tongue weight is, or at least find the...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for 2019 Toyota Highlander Towing 2018 R-Pod 179
The weight distribution hitch in the question you looked at was based on the loaded trailer tongue weight. It is impossible to find the right WDH based on the vehicle alone. It looks like your 2018 R-Pod 179 has a dry tongue weight of 292 lbs so based on the GVWR you're probably maxing out tongue weight around 400 lbs. To be sure, I recommend measuring your fully loaded tongue weight setup with a scale like the # e99044. Based on that information, the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-0600 would not...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch System for a 2020 Toyota Sienna Hauling a 5 X 8 Trailer
First you will need to ensure the class III receiver you have on your 2020 Toyota Sienna is rated for use with a weight distribution hitch. As an example our etrailer Receiver # e98837 can be used with weight distribution while the etrailer Receiver # e98853 can not. This is due to the construction of the hitch. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0450 is rated for a trailer up to 4,500lbs with a tongue weight up to 450lbs. Be sure to not exceed any weight ratings for your Sienna...

  • What Size Wrench Do I Need For Ball Mount Bolts
I can help you with this process. In addition to the wrench, you will need a torque wrench. Many of these ball mounts will have fairly high torque specs. If you have a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" shank, you will need a 1-7/8" wrench and a socket like the 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket - 3/4" Drive - Chromium-Vanadium Steel, part # ALL643216. If you have a hitch ball with a 1" shank, you will need a 1-1/2" wrench and a socket like the 1-1/2" 12pt Socket - 3/4" Drive - Chromium-Vanadium Steel,...

Your 2017 GMC Acadia Denali with the factory V92 towing package is rated to tow a trailer up to 4,000lbs. This information is directly out of the owners manual for your Acadia. I do recommend using a weight distribution hitch like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0450 with a larger trailer. This system will help to ensure that your Acadia rides level and you do not experience light steering from to much weight on the rear axle and that the trailer tracks straight with the inclusion...

  • Fastway Weight Distribution System for 19 Foot E-Pro Camper with 400 lb Dry Tongue Weight
The loaded tongue weight is the figure that is most important for picking out a weight distribution system. Based on what you mentioned and the dry weight of the trailer being 400 lbs I would be willing to wager your loaded tongue weight will be around 600 lbs. Which based on that the Fastway system part # FA92-00-0800 would be a perfect solution as it has a tongue weight range of 400 to 800 lbs and your tongue weight should fall right into the middle of. The only thing else you'd need...

  • Is Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch Good for 1,200 lb Camper Trailer
The Fastway weight distribution systems are a fantastic option for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler towing a small camper trailer and exactly what I would recommend for towing a light 1,200 lb camper trailer. With that weight, the correct Fastway system is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution with 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450. What the Fastway hitch does is give you the most value out of a weight distribution hitch. It combines high-quality leveling and sway control but at a better price than...

  • Will Fastway e2 or Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution Help Level Trailer With 330 lb Tongue Weight

  • Can Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used During 90 Degree Turns and Backing Up
Backing up may or may not be allowed depending on the weight distribution hitch you decide to get. However, no WDH is going to allow you to make full 90 degree turns. The spring bars may come out, or the system may end up damaged, so you would need to disconnect the spring bars if you make a turn that sharp. This isn't an issue with most driving conditions, and in a lot of cases you can be careful and make a wider turn to avoid it. It sounds like you might have some specific conditions...
