Video Transcript for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness Review

Brad Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the vehicle-specific wiring harness, that will work in conjunction with the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller. These harnesses are going to be great to work with your Tow-Pro Elite in a variety of different trucks and SUVs. Now, make sure that you get your vehicle-specific harness. You're going to want to use our fit guide on "etrailer.com", and that's going to make sure that you get the right harness, and that way your install goes nice and easy.

Included in the REDARC kit, you will find this plugin adapter, and this is going to have these spliced ends, and you're gonna have to tie into your brake signal, your brake output, your power output and your ground. Now, if you are pretty handy with electrical, that's awesome. That's great. You can use this. But I'm the kind of person, plug and play in OEM kind of setup or really nice factory one like this.

This is the vehicle-specific harness. So this ties in directly to our factory tow system, and clips right in, it's got this nice braided sheathing on it, to kind of protect the wires, and then it plugs directly into our module here. So, to save yourself a little bit of headache and time, and make the install go that much smoother, and not have to worry about loose connections, I highly recommend getting the vehicle-specific harness. So this end of the plug is specific to your vehicle. As you can tell, it looks like the factory plug, it fits in perfect, has the locking mechanism, so you aren't gonna have to worry about loose connections happening with your plug, and it's going to make install a lot easier.

And that was a look at the vehicle-specific harness for the Tow-Pro Elite electric trailer brake controller..

Perfectly!

2016 Cadillac Escalade

Installed this on my 2016 escalade, simple plug in. Just needed to drill a hole for the brake adjustment knob. Better than wiring the oem harness that requires snipping splicing and soldering wires up for a trailer brake.

The Redarc brake controller and harness showed up promptly. Per your information it was the correct harness, and after a little struggle, it plugged in, and it appears to be working correctly. The instructional videos were very helpful. We have not had a chance to test it fully yet, but manual control works fine.
I ended up installing it in a open area to the left of the wheel in my 2019 Escalade where the 4x4 controller would go if it were not two wheel drive.

by:

Install went well in my 2018 Chevy Silverado and the controller works great.
Very good results and very satisfied with the purchase!

by:

Easy install. Installed on a 2017 Chevy Silverado. I like that it is out of site and more like a factory install. etrailer makes this type of project easy with great install videos .

by:

Shipping was fast! Install was a breeze, and looks great in my Tahoe! I have yet to use it but if it works as expected/advertised my 5 star rating will remain

Easy to install. I put the control knob where the factory OEM would be.

Happy whit the products easy to stall

by:

Straight forward install. Hardest part is locating the control knob without permanently damaging a panel. I opted to replace one of my power outlets to accommodate switch. plug and play ready, controller flashed green/blue as ready to calibrate when tested

product worked great hooked right up

by:
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Is a very easy install, The finish product is clean and easy to operate.
But most important, is your video; the installation video is clear on the installation and there was no hesitation on how to mount and connect everything.

Makes the hook up of the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller flawless with the factory wiring. Definitely recommend.

by:
Chevrolet Silverado

The brake controller cable for Silverado made installation much easier than expected. I didn't want to put controller knob at knee level and had very few flat places otherwise; so I chose a spot available on the panel above the headlight switch. I had to take some plastic off the top & bottom of the "TRAILER BRAKE" bezel to fit between the change cup and the credit card slot. I painted the letters white on the bezel so it matches the white markings on the light switch. Looks pretty factory; but LED light on brake control knob is not obvious with all the light from the window. Should look good at night; but I try not to tow at night. It sure does beat the big knee-knockers of the past, though.

I bought this harness to connect my Redarc Tow Pro to my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 truck. It connects the Tow Pro control unit to the truck’s brake system. It’s a perfect length to mount the control unit on the back side of the panel just below the steering column. Works great!

by:

Once again etrailer came through with quick easy service and ordering and the product I purchased was just as advertised the plug and play harness made it easy and the redarc pro tow trailer brake is great thanks again etrailer

by:

I ordered this plug and play with a Redarc controller for my 2021 Chevy Tahoe which both e-trailer and Redarc claimed to be the right one. I had to splice the wires which is what the plug and play is supposed to avoid. There is no wiring diagram included so I had to figure it out on my own. Would have sent it back but I had holes drilled and needed the brake controller to pull my trailer. Save yourself the hassle and buy a different brand.
Shame neither Redarc or E-Trailer don’t do there homework to know what style plug is really needed. I put a picture of what the plug should have looked like.

Hey Gary. I'm really sorry that we had incorrect information on our website. I'm going to have this harness refunded as it is incorrect for you 2021 Tahoe. If you ever need anything else please let me know, you can reach out to me directly. I know you have already spliced the harness but I did find a plug-in-play option which uses part # C51525 and part # 331-TPH-019.

Works great. No problems at all and super simple to install.

by:

This was an exact fit to my 2019 GMC Yukon XL. I just had to pop the black cover off under the dash and there was the open connecter for the cable. Pins were labeled A, B, C and D to confirm I had the correct port. Simple plug and play with no wiring needed. Power is supplied from the existing plug.

by:

Love this controller, nice clean look with performance to match. Wasn't wanting nothing crazy big and ugly to put in out Chevy tahoe for our camper so this small knob and under dash box makes it still look really clean.

by:

Excellent shopping experience! Etrailer made the whole process easy, andI couldn't have been happier. And I love the free shipping!

by:

I cancelled these parts when it advised not compatible with my 2018 Silverado. The representative checked with supplier and advised me it work! The reason it wasn't correct is the control switch required a flat surface to install and everything on this years dash is curved therefore not allowing the tps1-001 lock in. It installed loose and looks really bad . Ref order number 120535085 and 120535494. I have purchased from etrailer in past but not sure in future.

by:
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Very easy to install, drill 2 small holes and insert the switch. There’s only 2 wire bundles, one between the switch and control box and one from that box to the truck that all plug in. It looks like it belongs on the dash. There’s several videos online for ideas of where to mount it.

by:

They gave me advise on what was needed, it worked out. The brake controller is great, small and looks like it came as a stock install. A friend machined the hole so it would be the correct thickness. Bill did a perfect job.

  • Troubleshooting Redarc Liberty Solid Red Light When Installed on a 2020 Cadillac Escalade
Hey Matthew, thanks for reaching out! The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR should only be showing solid red when you press and hold the control knob to show that you're using the manual override operation. Since it sounds like this isn't working correctly, I recommend verifying that all of your wiring is connected to the correct functions, and that the manual override will activate your trailer brakes. I see that you used the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-010...

What GM did was run the wires you'll need to install a brake controller under your dash but there's no connector on the end of them. To install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR, you'll need the Universal Wiring Harness item # RED69FR. This harness will allow you to splice directly into the factory wires. I would recommend the Prodigy P3 part # 90195 for you because this is widely considered to be the best brake controller that stops trailers in the smoothest and safest way but more specifically for you I recommend it because it has ability to save trailer settings so you can easily switch between two trailers...

The best brake controller on the market is arguably the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 because it has safeguards to protect both the vehicle and trailer in the event of a wiring short, storable settings if you need to tow multiple trailers, and it is just super dependable. It also comes with a lifetime warranty so it will most likely be the last brake controller you ever have to buy. In order to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado...

I understand you have that brake controller plug but it doesn't look like anyone makes a custom harness for your 2022 Colorado. Redarc even has a review on their site for this wiring harness where someone tried to use it on a 2022 Sierra 1500 and had to cut off the end and splice since it didn't match up. • Troubleshooting Compatibility Issues Between EOH Brakes With A Chevy 2500 OEM Brake Controller
Hey Rod, I would first check if your OEM brake controller has an EOH mode, if not then you can use Dexter's adapter # DX35FR to help your brake controller communicate with the BrakeRite actuator. The adapters still don't always do a great job and can cause the controller to not accurately function so the best solution would be to install an aftermarket brake controller that is compatible with EOH brakes. • Can Factory Brake Controller Be Installed on 2018 Chevy Silverado
Based on my research the issue with installing a factory brake controller on your Silverado (post-factory) has to do with the factory harness and programming on the truck. Chevy's official stance is that it cannot be added after the fact. You might be able to obtain the correct components (controller, module, etc) and physically plug everything in but because of the truck's programming/computer it likely still won't work correctly without expensive modifications to the truck's system. ...
