Replacing The Wheel On A Yakima Rack And Roll Kayak Trailer # Y08106
Updated 06/20/2024 | Published 06/14/2024 >
Question:
I have a replacement for a Yakima rack and roll wheel. After replacing a flat tire on the trailer and attempting to torque the wheel to the recommended 57 lbs pretty stout, I realized the pin would not at that torque level. Since the nut rotates around the bolt or the bolt rotates inside the nut, it needs to be aligned perfectly to inset the cotter pin. Any guidance on how to accomplish that would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Michael,
The wheel for your Yakima Rack And Roll Kayak Trailer # Y08106 would be held in place with a single bolt. The bolt head would stick out past the wheel so you should be able to use another wrench to hold the bolt while you torque down the nut. I've attached a video below where Joe does this starting at the 3:40 minute mark.

Yes, I've had the trailer for quite a while now, and I'm familiar with changing the tire. My question is specific to getting the correct recommended torque on the wheel. The recorded torque is 57 lb. When turning the nut, it invariably falls on 57 when the nut is not lined up with the hole in the bolt. Should I over or under-torque?
