Will the Yakima EXO Swing Away and Gear Locker cargo box allow the doors on a 2025 Sprinter 3500XD RV to open fully or will the locking pin obstruct the door?

Hello Todd, great question. The Yakima EXO Swing Away and Gear Locker # Y62VR is going to allow you to open the rear doors on your 2025 Sprinter 3500XD RV at around 90 degrees. Then with the box removed you may face a clearance issue with your passenger side door depending on the length and height of the door. From the center of the hitch to the locking pin for the swinging function it's approximately 29" inches. It will also sit 8" above the top of the receiver to the top of the pin, so your door could potentially come into contact with the pin, it really just depends on the door size.

This isn't something we have had the chance to specifically test on a 2025 Sprinter, so your best bet will be to do some measuring of the rear door and kind of get an idea of the area the door swings thru. I have included a diagram with some dimensions that should help.

Thanks Jesse, Is there a final thought on use on a Class B van RV? I understand that Yakima does not support use for an RV but the Sprinter Class B can fall under a "van" classification. I have seen several opinions and successful use on Sprinter Class B but was curious about your thoughts.

@Todd Great question. In real-world use, the EXO system works well on Class B RVs like the Sprinter or Ram ProMaster. While Yakima does not officially list RVs in general, Sprinter-based Class B rigs are much closer to a van platform than a traditional motorhome, and we have had many customers run the EXO on them with good results and no reported issues. The key factor is rear overhang. On vans and Class B RVs, the distance from the rear axle to the hitch is usually reasonable, so hitch movement stays under control. On larger Class A or Class C motorhomes, that long overhang can exaggerate movement and be hard on hitch-mounted accessories. With a Sprinter-based Class B under normal driving conditions, that concern really is not an issue.
