Truck Bed Extender with Fixed Height Setup
Keep it simple with a truck bed extender in fixed height for a consistent setup. During install, you may need to reuse spacers from the factory cables, add a washer for alignment, and confirm bolt thread pitch; if spring clips feel loose, a quick squeeze with pliers can firm them up. Also check for add-ons near the tailgate that might share the same mounting space.
Some do replace the factory tailgate cables and use the existing bolt holes. Keep spacers from your original cables handy, as you may need them on the top bolts. Add a washer per screw if needed to fine-tune spacing. Verify instructions against your tailgate so you remove the correct screws.
Minor movement can happen until the extender is fully engaged. Use the correct spacers or washers to tighten the fit and help minimize slap against the tailgate. If spring-steel retaining clips are loose, a light squeeze with pliers can create a firmer fit so the mechanism doesn't catch on the support bars.
Confirm the bolt thread pitch matches your truck to avoid stripping the bed frame nuts. Test-fit with washers or spacers so the gate closes without rubbing at the hinge or taillight area. If hardware includes retaining clips, squeeze them slightly with pliers for a firmer fit so they don't catch during opening or closing.
It can work with OEM parts, but check the space they share on the tailgate. Extenders that replace cables are thicker and less flexible than stock cables, so aftermarket pieces in the same area may not fit. If you keep OEM tie-downs, verify they don't interfere with the extender's brackets and movement before final tightening.
