Measure the arm size to match a gear pack, and remember the motor and gearbox come as a set—match RPM (like 9,000 RPM) to your original for smooth operation. If a slide misbehaves, check the ground connection first, and on older hydraulic setups avoid mixing actuators with different speeds.
It can work, but mixing old and new actuators may cause different travel speeds on older rigs. Consider replacing actuators in pairs or confirm matched performance. To identify what you need, measure stroke as the rod's travel and overall length with the cylinder retracted.
Match the specs on your motor label, like 12V and RPM. Some setups use Thomson/Tuson styles where the motor and gearbox are purchased together. When installing, don't expect the mounting bolt to thread into the motor—on some designs the bolt passes through the motor and threads into the actuator tube.
Measure the slide arm to size the replacement gear pack correctly. Inspect the rail teeth too—if they look worn, plan a rail repair along with the pack. Use a floor jack with a wood block to lift the slide box slightly and take tension off for easier swap. Upgraded steel gears and rollers can help handle torque on heavy slides.
Start by checking the ground wire for corrosion; clean the contact, replace the end, and use a new screw if needed. Worn gearpack teeth or a chewed rail can cause noise—replace the gearpack and consider a rail repair kit if the rack teeth look bad. After replacement, slides can run smoother and quieter.
