I purchased this part to replace an similar one from Roadmaster which has a plastic housing. The Roadmaster front car plug was part of a wiring kit. All wire connectors rusted heavily in less than a year making the plug unsafe to use aND can no longer be serviced. I live in North Florida, maybe the Roadmaster products should only be used in Arizona. This new part will most likely rust similarly, so I will apply a heavy coating of liquid electrical tape. And hope for the best. 249856

  • Wiring Diagrams to Use for Replacing Vehicle 7-Way with 6-Way
I attached two diagrams to this page. One that shows a 6-way and one that shows a 7-way. You can use that as a guide for wiring in a new 6-way like the part # PK11609.

  • Is There a Reverse Wire on 6-Way Connector
As you can see by the accompanying diagram I added, a 6-way such as the Pollak # PK11609 does not have a function for reverse lights; that function is on a 7-way so you would not connect the wire you referenced to your trailer connector. A 6-way has the following functions: 1) Tail/Running Lights 2) Left Turn/Stop 3) Right Turn/Stop 4) Brake Controller Output 5) 12V Power 6) Ground. I have also added a link to a help article on wiring I highly recommend checking out.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights not Working with a 4-Way to 6-Way Adapter on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma
Before attempting to install a new 6-way connector, I would recommend using a circuit tester, # 40376, to test the connectors on your 2005 Toyota Tacoma and on the trailer that you are using to see if something is not wired correctly. When you have the adapter connected to your 4-flat connector, test each pin for proper function. I would also recommend testing each pin on your 4-flat connector as well, just so we can determine if the problem is on your 4-flat connector, the adapter, or...

  • Availability of a 4-Way Flat to 6-Way Round Trailer Connector Adapter
We actually have a pre-made 4-Way to 6-Way round adapter that you could use if you wanted to, # 30637. For this you would plug in the 4-Way on the vehicle to the 4-Way on the adapter, ground the white wire to the frame of the vehicle, and tape up the other 2 wires on the adapter if those functions are not needed (if you just needed lighting functions). To make your own you would need a 4-Way trailer end connector, like # HM48110, and wire the blunt cut bare wire ends to the 6-Way round...

A 6-way trailer connector can be wired in one of two ways. One way is to have the center pin wired to carry the +12V trailer power feed. • Solution for Gooseneck Trailer Brakes that Lock Up When Connected to Tow Vehicle
If your trailer has a 6-way connector like a lot of gooseneck trailers do the issue is that the 12 volt power and brake output circuits are sometimes swapped since some people wire them both ways. The solution is to swap the two circuits if you find yourself in a situation where the brakes lock when a trailer is connected. On a 6-way the circuits are the pins in the center and 10:00 facing opening of socket on tow vehicle.
