Troubleshooting Trailer Lights not Working with a 4-Way to 6-Way Adapter on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Before attempting to install a new 6-way connector, I would recommend using a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to test the connectors on your 2005 Toyota Tacoma and on the trailer that you are using to see if something is not wired correctly. When you have the adapter connected to your 4-flat connector, test each pin for proper function. I would also recommend testing each pin on your 4-flat connector as well, just so we can determine if the problem is on your 4-flat connector, the adapter, or the trailer.

I have attached a photo that shows what the function of each pin should be on the vehicle side and trailer side of the 6-way connectors as well as a photo showing the function of each pin on your 4-flat connector.

You can also use this diagram if you wanted to hard wire the Pollack 6-Pole Socket, # PK11609, to your truck.

Another way to troubleshoot the issue would be to connect your truck to your other trailer and see if the same issue persists and connect the trailer to your other truck. Assuming your truck and trailer are wired correctly, the adapter should work.

Most 4-way to 6-way adapters require you to hard wire two additional wires, a 12-volt power lead and a brake wire.
