Product Expert Lindsey S's Opinion

Why would I buy this?

  • Great at preventing sway by holding trailer firmly in place at the system head and along the frame
  • Industry leading Equal-i-zer brand does weight distribution hitches and nothing else, so they know their stuff
  • If you need a bigger drop or rise, you won't be wasting money by getting a standard shank that you won't end up using. But...

Why wouldn't I buy this?

  • Steel-on-steel brackets can create a lot of noise, especially during turns
  • Requires a special thin-walled socket for installation, which is not included
  • You do have to buy the shank separately, so there is that extra step.
Steel-on-steel friction works to prevent and correct trailer sway in this unique weight distribution system. Sway control brackets ensure that your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. Shank sold separately. 2-5/16" Hitch ball included. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution from Equal-i-zer. Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Features of the Equal-i-zer

Head Tilt Adjustment

Controlling head tilt with traditional washer method

The Equal-i-zer weight distribution system uses the traditional washer-style adjustment method to achieve the perfect tilt. Controlling the head tilt helps you to fine-tune the leverage on your entire system, making it easier to install and hook up the spring bars. To adjust the tilt, simply slide washers onto the spacer rivet and insert the rivet into the head assembly. To increase the angle, add a washer. To reduce the angle, remove a washer. Most setups take four to six washers to achieve the proper height. Once you get the desired tilt, insert the shank bolts to secure the head to the shank (sold separately) and then tighten it in place.

Construction of Spring Arms

The Equal-i-zer spring bars are not made of traditional spring steel. Rather, they are constructed of a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. Chromoly steel has a high tensile strength for extreme durability. It also features excellent dexterity, which allows it to give as required and then return softly back to its original form. This pliability is important in minimizing trailer bounce while still ensuring that the weight of your rig is adequately distributed.

Fixed Sway Control Brackets

Installation of Sway-Control Brackets

The unique sway control brackets of the Equal-i-zer are easy to install and simple to use. They clamp onto your trailer frame and conveniently adjust to a position anywhere between 27 inches and 32 inches back from the coupler. These brackets provide the attachment points for the weight distribution spring bars. To position the spring bars during hookup, simply use the included snap-up lever to lift each bar into place on the L-shaped brackets. Then secure the bars in place with the included L-pins and clips.

Equal-i-zer Hitch 4-Point Sway Control

The Equal-i-zer weight distribution system works to stop trailer sway before it begins. This is achieved through the rotational friction that is present in the weight distribution hitch itself. Within the system head, the downward pressure that is placed on the hitch ball by the trailer is combatted by the upward pressure exerted by the spring bars that are mounted in the sockets. This upward force is placed on the spring bars on either side of the system, creating the rotational friction that, essentially, forces your trailer in line. This type of friction is responsible for two points - one on either side of the trailer - of the 4-Point Sway Control. To ensure that enough tension is present, make certain that the socket bolts in the head assembly are torqued to at least 45 foot-pounds.

Points within the Equal-i-zer system where upward and downward forces interact to create rotational friction

The other two points of sway control are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system. Letting the spring bars hang freely minimizes the rotational friction described earlier. It also eliminates your system's ability to create the type of direct friction that has been shown to be so effective in limiting trailer sway.

This direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the Equal-i-zer system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the Equal-i-zer uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway control system.

Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System with 4 Point Sway Control Review

Today we're going to be taking a look a the Equalizer Weight Distribution with a 4-point sway control. It has a 12,000-lb gross trailer weight and a 1,200-lb tongue weight, part number EQ37121ET. Please note, you will have to provide your own weight distribution chain. You've decided you need a weight distribution system, the Equalizer weight distribution system uses steel on steel friction to help prevent and correct trailer sway. The sway control brackets ensure that your trailer stays in line with your two vehicle. Our spring bars flex appropriately over uneven terrain for a more controlled and even ride without bounce. The system includes the head assembly.

It uses a traditional washer system to provide tilt in the head, the more tilt in the head, the more life in the tongue weight. Because it uses the 4-point sway control, there are no chains. The spring bars are easily installed with the included lift handle. The whole thing is made out of a dipped steel construction, so it's going to be durable and resist rust and corrosion. As with all weight distribution systems, it helps your tow vehicle get back to a stock height with the added weight of a trailer. Let's take a look at that now. I've gone ahead and removed the weight distribution and disconnected from the trailer, let's go ahead and get a stock measurement of our tow vehicle.

Here at the rear, we've got about 39-1/2" to the underside of the wheel well. At the front, I've got about 38-1/2". You want to be sure and record these measurements because these are the measurements we want to try and get back to when we engage our weight distribution system. Now I've gone ahead and hooked my trailer back up to my tow vehicle without weight distribution, now let's take a look and see what the tow vehicle looks like. Here in the back, I'm squatting about 1", and here in the front, my vehicle's tilted upward about 3/4".

Weight distribution should correct that, let's hook it up. Now I've got my trailer hooked back up and my weight distribution engaged, let's go ahead and take another measurement on our tow vehicle. Here in the back, we're back to stock height and same with the front. Excellent. Not using a weight distribution system can cause issues with your traction, tire wear, and handling. Getting your vehicle back to stock with a weight distribution system can help prevent those problems.

Now let's show you how it's installed. First thing to note about using a weight distribution system is you need to make sure your trailer or camper is fully loaded and ready to go. This ensures proper weight is being applied to your tow vehicle. The shank can be installed in either the rise or drop position, the head is adjustable along the shank, you just need to make sure that the top of the ball is level with the top of the coupler when your trailer is level. The kit includes 8 washers to adjust the tilt of your head, you don't have to use all 8, you just need to make sure to use enough to get your vehicle back close to stock. Our spring bars fit inside the weight distribution head and are lifted on the L-bracket with the included tool. We can then place in our snap L-pin to help keep the spring bar in place. This is where that steel on steel friction takes place, helping us with our sway control. Finally our link plates are installed on our trailer's A-frame, with the L-brackets on the outside. You just want to make sure and avoid your battery box or your propane tanks, those may have to be relocated. It needs to be positioned between 27 and 32" from the center of your coupler. If you've used all 8 washers for your head tilt and your vehicle still isn't back to stock, you can adjust your L-brackets. That's going to complete our look at the Equalizer Weight Distribution with a 4-point sway control, with a 12,000-lb gross trailer weight and a 1,200-lb tongue weight, part number EQ37121ET.

After a pretty easy set up of my new Equal-I-zer hitch I took a 160 mile trip with my travel trailer and I was amazed at how well the anti sway worked. Being passed by large vehicles at high speeds caused virtually no sway in my rig. I am impressed by how well this hitch worked and would recommend it to any one who pulls a travel trailer. 614195

We just moved from a light weight Lance to a much heavier Arctic Fox. I was inclined to use the same Fastway hitch but most of the AF owners recommended the Equalizer. I had to order the shank separately to get the right size (thanks Ford) but it all came in two (very) heavy boxes. Assembly was fairly straight forward and adjustments are easy. Quality wise, the EQ hitch appears better built than the Fastway and I really like the heavier duty construction of the parts that mount on the tongue of the trailer. The tension bars are easier to manage being straight but this also means that you have extra little parts to lose so we'll be packing a spare kit. The hitch portion itself is a heavy duty affair, much more so than I had imagined. Quality of materials and fit and finish are first rate and with the extra holes, I can use a cable lock to secure the hitch when it's off the truck. As always, we got the best price on etrailer and shipping was very quick. This is definitely a "buy once cry once" decision and etrailer's support made this an easy purchase. 469404

I purchased a trailer used over ten years ago. It was a 26 foot travel trailer approximately 7500 lbs. It was old and heavy. The previous owner had purchased this same equilizer hitch and gave it to me with trailer. It was on there since day one every time I towed so I never realized how well it benefited me. I sold that trailer some years back. Last year I bought a new travel trailer. 26 foot but only 6000lbs. I bought a harbor freight weight distribution hitch and installed it at rv dealer. I worked with the guys to ensure it was installed correctly. Well I can tell you the combo was the most dangerous rig I ever operated. I made adjustments over and over again but never felt safe. At that piont I decided it must be the cheap harbor freight hitch and started looking for a new hitch. I came across the equilizer and remembered how well and stabil that rig felt. So I sized the correct one and purchased it. I installed it as per manufacturer instructions. Right away it was a million times better. It took some adjustments but got it perfect. In my opinion it one of the best and good price too. Easy to use and adjust . Nothing fancy but a good old design that works quiet and safe. I have traveled at over 85 mph by accident because it's all so smooth. 388383

I bought a heavier truck in past year. Im using same hitch and trailer. I had to make a height adjustment but other than that the hitch is still delivering the same great stable service.

This is the second Equalizer hitch I have had. I needed to replace my first one as I bought a larger camping trailer and the older equalizer didn't have the proper tongue weight rating. We drive a 2011 Tundra TRD 4x4 with a 5.7 liter. We pull a 2017 mallard M292 by hartland that is 34'-9" with a height of 10''- 4" weight is 6905 lbs. Dry with a tongue weight of 725 lbs. Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina I have many curves and tractor trailers to deal with on I-40. Everywhere we go is down the mountain and to return home is always up hill. At no time have I ever had my trailer do any swaying. Leveling issues are never a problem with my Equalizer hitch. I believe it is the best hitch on the market, hands down. Having the wife happy and relaxed and not thinking about the trailer while on long hauls keeps me calm and focused. It took about 2 hours to install and adjust. etrailer has done a great job once again and Molly was the best 452533

The 12k Equalizer Weight Distribution Hitch is an AWESOME product and did all it said it would do. Bombed hills, kept my ride steady, and most important kept my family safe on the SoCal/NorCal roads more than 28 hrs of driving north to the redwoods @ Jedidiah Smith then back south again. Next trip coming up quick in a week getting ready for another adventure. With the new EQ WDH set up is a snap! Thank you etrailer Team for all the help and great pricing! See you on the road. 413546

This is one strong hitch. Assembly and adjustment instructions are well written and easy to follow but you'd better have the right tools and a level, smooth parking lot to do the work. The instructions do not mention how stiff the arm sockets will be when the hitch is being assembled and do not cover lubrication until later in maintenance. Be sure to get the correct height/drop shank. I used the Equal-i-zer "Find the right shank" wizard on their website and came up short (literally) so had to order a second, longer one. etrailer was great about taking the short shank back as long as it hadn't been used (installed and adjusted on vehicle was OK, just not having actually towed anything). etrailer also wasted NO time in getting my parts to me--three days via Big Brown to a small town in Idaho. USPS can't get a letter delivered that far away any quicker (not bashing USPS by any means). 564812

The hitch took about 2.5 hours to install, that’s with me removing the previous WDH, taking my time to go through the installation, and double-checking each step. Using a break bar helped out tremendously. Can’t wait for my next camping trip. I’ll update my review to mention the hitches performance. 681295

We had an E2 12,000 pound hitch to tow our travel trailer, GVWR of 10,000 pounds. We could not adjust the sway out of it and did not feel comfortable towing long distances. We contacted Lindy at E-Trailer and she had the new Equalizer hitch out to us in two days. I will set it up this weekend and no doubt be much more relaxed when traveling. Great customer service and cost was better than other sources we checked. Products arrived in perfect condition. 666405

The 12,000 pound Equal-i-zer is my third weight distribution hitch and by far the most effective. It is heavy and cumbersome but once on the road you forget that the trailer is behind you. I have had no problem with cross winds or passing 18 wheelers. I would buy it again. The trailer is winterized and in deep snow so no photos. Bill A. 604136

Great WDH. There is a little trial and error getting it set up but the instructions are easy to follow. Don't forget to grease the moving parts on the head and buying plastic jackets for the brackets greatly reduces noise. Very stable towing. 578701

Comments

The jackets do indeed quiet the hitch to a degree, but be aware that using them can diminish the effectiveness of the sway control. The metal-on-metal contact is what provides the sway control, and the jackets diminish that.

The Equal-i-zer works great! I've only used it on 3 trips, but have put about 1,500 miles on it. I have no sway whatsoever. It's also VERY easy to hook up once you get it all assembled. It is a little bit noisy, but I don't mind that much. They make little pad that helps quiet the squeaking so I may try that and see how that works. 426959

I ordered this Equalizer 4 point anti sway system without shank and added the 2 1/2 inch shank to fit properly on my new tow vehicle. All parts arrived in Canada within 5 days. I am very particular about setup. From the start of disassembling my old system to driving away with the new setup was over 3 hours. But it tows beautifully. Something I never said about my old spring bars with chains. This is the first time ordering from etrailer. They do a good job. 395701

From the first moment I called this was a wonderful experience. William B was the gentleman I got on the phone and he was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the product. He helped me order the right size hitch and it arrived in three days. I installed the hitch and while yes it’s noisy as other reviews say it is the best hitch I could’ve purchased. I own a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and am pulling a 20’ enclosed V nose trailer. I can do 70 with no problem or any seaway whatsoever. Thanks again Will. 679579

Installed myself and spent a lot of time adjusting the torsion and test driving. Very pleased with the firmness and stability of the 4000 lb. trailer. There are periods when I hear some squeaking in back, but retightening all the hitch bolts seems to alleviate most of the noise. 643400

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

12000 lbs. hitch was a great improvement over my previous bent bar hitch with chains. Trailer sway has decreased a lot. MY 35 foot trailer pulls straight except when it is windy. I am no longer bothered by passing vehicles. Was noisy until I added the nylon pads from equalizer. Much quite now. 610499

Comments

Keep in mind that the jackets or pads will decrease the effectiveness of the sway control to a degree because they limit some of the metal-on-metal friction which provides the sway control.

Lindy was very helpful verifying the correct model for my new 19 ft TT. The hitch arrived in 2 boxes - very heavy! This hitch is built like it belongs on a tank - glad I purchased the hitchgrip carrying tool. All of the parts are heavy duty and well finished. The etrailer installation video on YouTube is very helpful to better demonstrate the installation manual instructions. My dealer installed the ball since they had the thin-wall socket. Everything installed easily and fit well. Need to load up the new TT and make final adjustments if necessary. 493532

This is one slick setup. I got it tuned in perfectly on the second try. Instructions are very specific and very accurate. I found only one thing that could be better - the bolts that hold the ball mount to the receiver bar are too long, at least 1" too long. A standard socket won't fit over them to torque the nut - shorter bolts or a warning that a deep socket is needed would be nice. This seems like an anomaly, as everything else was a perfect fit. Good price, speedy delivery, as always. One caution, this thing is heavy! 283591

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

Product was easy to install, following instructions that came with. Video's online also helpful. It was recommended to use thin wall 1 7/8" socket to tighten the hitch ball nut, but was able to get a impact socket into the space. The trick is to turn the square weight distribution receiver's out to the side. ( ie...perpendicular to the hitch receiver. ) They come from factory at a 45 degree angle, turn them out to 90 degree's. Then the socket fits in to tighten the nut. Great videos online from product on how to make sure your weight distribution is correct once installed on tow vehicle and trailer. 609508

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

I think this hitch saved our lives and probably others. This is my first "big" camper I've been towing trailers and pop ups for years. A 23' Grey Wolf Toyhauler with my 2011 Ford Expy as the TV out in front. I had been talking with more mature campers from work about the high prices of some of these WD hitches.... who wisely advised... don't go cheap on tires, brakes or hitches. I bit the bullet, took a little heat from the wife, cause I had it professionally installed too. (This thing is massive). I'll add pics next time I hookup. Plus rolling on $1200 of new Good Year AT's So me and my wife had just pulled out from Clabough's camp grounds after a week of great exploring, great weather and fun smoky Mtn motorcycle riding. We were heading north on 441, not to the highway yet. Probably not on the road more than 20 min or so driving through a small town. Maybe Severville Anyway, 4 lanes, maybe 40mph or 45mph. Following a car, and just talking. Then what seemed to be out of no where, I looked up to see the car was stopped at a red light right in front of us. When did that light turn red!! I had less than a second to react. I knew I couldn't stop. No one coming left or right at the intersection. No one to my right. It was tight, but I might be able to make it.... I swerved HARD right, then back with a HARD left... missing the car in front of us, and the sidewalk. We went sailing through the intersection totally unscathed... and THE CAMPER FOLLOWED ALONG PERFECTLY!! Silence. Neither of us said a word for what seemed like 5 minutes. I'm not even sure who spoke first. I recall someone saying like, did that just happen? And "we're not doing that again" So guys, it may seem like a lot of money, but I'd say it's pretty cheap. I'll just repeat what I was told... don't cheap out on tires, brake, or hitches. Happy camping. 422706

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

I recently replaced my weight distribution and sway bar that had the chains for distribution and the brake style anti-sway with the Equalizer 1200. I also had purchased a scale to weigh tongue wt. I wanted to wait until I had some good miles on it before I reviewed. I tow a 33 1/2 ft toy hauler with a RAM 1500 eco-diesel and am pretty much maxed out on what I can safely pull. After weighing my rig at a truck stop and then checking my tongue wt, I called etrailer and got excellent confirmation on which set up to use. The 1200 worked like a dream. My wife actually let go of the dash board and commented on how much smoother and controlled the ride is. If you have any doubts as to the ability of these set ups, put them to rest. I couldn't be more pleased. The sway is all but eliminated and the ride has improved dramatically. On another note, I also found the 1200 cheaper but without the ball. I submitted the link as directed to and I was expecting them to reply with, 'this isn't the same'. Instead, they added $22 to the price I submitted to include the ball and then gave me their guaranteed price match. To me, this speaks volumes for their honesty and integrity. This is not my first purchase through them and I will not hesitate to use them again. 476299

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

I purchased this hitch for a 9000lbs travel trailer with a 1001lbs tongue weight. If your debating between a less expensive round bar and this setup, spend the money. This hitch is by far a better, easier, and safer setup. I purchased this hitch to replace a Pro-series round bar with a friction sway control bar. The Equal-i-zer's 4 point sway control is big step up from a single point sway control system. The 1st drive felt secure and safe. Install was easy, but time consuming for a 1st time installer. But worth it in the end. Here's some pointers. 1. get the right tools, rent or barrow a the torque wrench to do the hitch ball 430ft/lbs, and shank bolts 320ft/lbs. The piece of mind that it's correct is worth it. 2. Plan for the afternoon, not a couple of hours. 1st setup is going to be close but your going to have to adjust it so plan on taking something apart. but setup is relatively easy, esp with the right tools. I had the trailer level the 1st go around to 2.5". So I had to move the head up one hole in the shank and then it was within 1". Distribution setup was still with in a proper setup, so I didn't have to make any further adjustments. As far as the coupling and uncoupling the hitch. Using the tongue jack to release the tension is easy to do and quick. Esp. with an electric jack. I never liked the round bar with chain setup on my previous hitch. High quality, easy install and setup, and seems to have great sway control. 305090

I received this hitch about a month ago and couldn't install right at first due to some issues I was having but I have finally got it installed and set up right. This is great! I will go on my maiden voyage Memorial weekend but I'm sure it is going to perform as expected. Excellent price that no one can touch. Instructions are easy to follow and detailed the way it should be. Time, was about as expected, so don't rush because you don't want to miss any steps. 314559

Well I have owned this hitch for a year and it has worked flawlessly. In July we took our camper on a 2000 mile trip and we had no issues with the hitch at all. We were in all types of traffic through large and small cities, we didnt have any sway issues because the hitch, now broken in, works much better than I knew it would. I had installed the pads under the slide bars and use the grease to quieten it down when in all the turns I made during this trip. I dont believe there is a better hitch out there that can tame my 38 ft 9000lb Jayco than this Equalizer. Best money spent here. 11/7/17

I purchased the EQ37060ET (6000 GTW-600 TW) last year and cannot say enough good things about it. It has performed flawlessly on my 2014 Toyoda Highlander, pulling our 21', 4000 lb Winnebago Mico Minnie. As the expression goes, "If I can hook it up, anyone can !" I've recommended to anyone who's in the market for a great weight distribution system. 334439

The Equalizer Weight Distribution System w/4 point sway control is as good as advertised. The installation took me approx 2.5 hrs and it was not difficult, just took a little time to make fine tuning adjustments to get the performance from the system that I wanted. The Equalizer System has removed an estimated 95% of the sway issue that I was having while pulling a 29 ft travel trailer with a mid-size Chevrolet Colorado pickup. Looking forward to getting out on the road and giving it a thorough testing, but so far it meets my expectations. 402238

This hitch was a great investment!! It has made a huge difference in how my trailer handles in the Texas winds. I used to get white knuckled every time that I set out on a trip with my previous chain hitch and seldom ever felt comfortable in pulling the trailer at speeds in excess of 45 mile per hour. Now I can move along at normal Dallas freeway speeds in comfort. This hitch was a welcomed addition to my RV experience.

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

Just bought a new Travel Trailer, had been using a Reese Weight distribution set up with traditional sway bar. This system worked well but had the tractor trailers pushing me around and on windy days I had to reduce highway speeds dramatically. So, I chose to upgrade to the Equalizer for the new TT. I had the Professionals install it since it was raining but the videos and information on etrailer make me confident I could have done it with the correct tools. The Equalizer was fantastic on the 75 mile ride home in the rain with heavy Tractor Trailer traffic. Had little to no sway. Very pleased with my decision. This is a heavy duty system and is easy to hook up. I ordered by calling etrailer because I had a question about shipping and delivery since I needed the new set up for delivery of my new TT. Lisa was more than helpful answering my questions and getting the hitch to me on time. I strongly recommend The Equalizer and etrailer for your towing needs. 426708

Etrailer is awesome! I called Monday evening and they answered my questions about the weight distribution hitches. I knew I wanted an Equalizer hitch but was unsure on the model. Etrailer recommended the 600/6000 model so I ordered it over the phone. They said it would take five days to ship to CA, but it was delivered today, on Thursday, and only took three days! Etrailer rocks!!! 525151

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

We made a trip to the Pacific Northwest from Arkansas and I have to say, the hitch performed perfectly. Even in a high wind, which is common in Wyoming and the plain states there was no problem keeping a straight line going down the road. One time, when I wasn't paying attention and ran off onto the shoulder of the road, the trailer didn't sway at all but kept straight and allowed me to return to the road without incident. I would recommend this hitch to anyone pulling a trailer of any significant weight behind them. I have a 33 foot RV and pulling it with a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. 474796

Its been over a year since I purchased my Equalizer hitch system and I am completely satisfied with it. Occasionally I have to spray some lubricant on the pivot points on the receiver end to keep the noise down but other than that It works as advertised and I would again rate it 5 stars.

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

Fantastic Hitch! etrailer had the best price by far, arrived within 4 days of placing the order in excellent condition with no shipping damage or missing parts. Mt RV Dealer did the original setup, but their installers apparently never watched a video on proper installation, as they took no before or after measurements of my truck wheel well height, never used a torque wrench, and placed the sway bracket assemblies at 27 inches from the ball when 32 inches (factory recommended distance) was easily available on the trailer. Many other install errors as well like incorrect number of spacer washers and incorrect L bracket mounting hole positions, all of which caused my 2016 Ford F-150 to squat while towing. Never assume the dealer service department knows what they are doing! Once home, I set the hitch up as instructed by Equal-i-zer without too much difficulty. This hitch now has my truck sitting level and tows like a dream with very little sway at all, and I tow a 35 foot travel trailer. Keep the hitch lubed as instructed, and use the optional sway bracket jackets and this hitch is fairly quiet. Well worth the money, no more white knuckles!! 453213

I can't speak on the hitch itself because I was never able to use it, but I hear great things. However, I want to save someone else the hassle here, so if your camper trailer has a propane or battery platform on the top side of the V hitch/tongue - you may need to do some serious modifications to put the brackets in the correct position. Check the manual and measure before you order! 660463

Product works as advertised. We pull a 10,000 lb 24' catering trailer that the weight distribution is far from even with convection oven, 2 door commercial refrigerator and more. We were having severe swaying problems on the highways. Bought this sway control and it stopped all swaying. Before I couldn't hit 55mph without uncontrollable sway and now there is no speed limit that causes sway. Very easy to hook up, follow directions and its a no brainer. After 1 year I still use it every time and seems to work just as well. Re-adjusted for a new truck in minutes. Doesn't interfere with any wire or chains and we have 3 camera system along with custom frame platform on front of trailer to support 2- 100 lb propane tanks and a generator and was still easy to fit on and works great. 517465

Review from a similar Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control in Weight Distribution

The installation process was fairly easy, but if you're planning on doing it yourself, keep in mind you'll need the 1 7/8" thin-walled socket (EQ70-00-4800), and most likely a 3/4 drive extension to clear the head, as well as a torque wrench that can read up to 420+ lb/ft. I wish etrailer would sell the extension like they do the socket, though - I lucked out and found one locally, but they only had one, and they were the only store I could find in 50 miles that had 3/4 drive extensions. Hitching is a little more difficult than using a chain WD system because the arms are so hard to get into position, but not needing a separate anti-sway mechanism is great, and after dealing with a failure and warranty claim with a competitor's chain-based system, the quality, customer service, and warranty terms of the Equal-i-zer really set it apart. 467432

Excellent product. This is my 2nd Equalizer hitch. First one was a 10,000lb I used on my 29ft Keystone Camper that was around 8500lbs loaded towing with an 04 F250. I now have a 6,000lb I am using on my 6x12 V-nose around 3500lbs with a 600lb tounge weight towing with a 2016 Tacoma. These hitches make a world of difference when towing & are pretty easy to setup. The new hitch allowed us to get our camper almost exactly level. It barely feels like we have something hooked to the truck. We get no wind pushing us around when trucks pass us on the interstate. It was easy to attach to our camper. Your shipment came in exactly when you said it would. Thank you very much for your good service and for the good hitch. 355315

I have loved your hitches since 1995. We pulled a camper for 10 years without one and basically started avoiding the interstate highways because of what happened when trucks passed us. The guy at the place we stored our camper had a used Equilizer that we bought and used for 12 years. We got a new tow vehicle with a higher hitch and the old Equilizer was welded and could not be adjusted. Thats when we bought the new one. I watch people at the campgrounds wrestling with other hitches and I just calmly hook mine up and go. I hardly feel the camper behind us. You have a great product and I will use it till I cant camp any more.

Do you have a question about this Weight Distribution?

  • How To Tow with the Tailgate Down on a 2018 Ram 2500
  • I do have options for you but the traditional hitch extenders like the Hitch Box Extension and Reducer part # RP45292 that you are looking at will reduce your towing capacity too much to be used with your trailer most likely. Therefore, the best option I have is a weight distribution system with an extended shank, the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 and the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37121ET. I understand you may not need weight distribution but...
