Weight Distribution System For A 2025 Ram 2500 Towing A 10K Airstream

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 10/28/2025

Question:

My tow vehicle is a 2025 Ram 2500 Diesel. It has a 2-1/2inch shank. I will be towing an Airstream with a gross vehicle rating of 8 to 10K lbs. The tongue weight will be around 1,000 lbs. Any recommendations? Thanks

Hi Earl!

I have a couple options for you, but I think the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 2-1/2" Hitch - 15K GTW, 1.5K TW # BLU54TR you were looking at is a bit overrated for your set up. It has a minimum tongue weight capacity of 1,000 pounds and weight distribution systems are not one of those "Bigger is better" kind of things. Too little won't end up doing anything and too much will lift the front of the trailer and rear of the vehicle, which can cause more issues. You want to be as close to the middle of the systems capacity as possible as that will give you the best results.

So with that said, I would go with one of the following two options:

Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 12K GTW, 1.2K TW # RP66560
Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # EQ37121ET

You will need a shank with the Equal-i-zer like the # EQ90-02-4700 and you will need to use a reducer sleeve for the Reese ( can use the # e26YR if you don't have one), but these are the ones I would choose from. I think I would go with the Reese as it has a better tongue weight range, but the Equal-i-zer is also a good option.

I know this is probably confusing, so if you have any questions about any of this, just let me know.

Hey Earl, how did things go with the weight distribution setup for your Ram and Airstream? Did the Reese Steadi-Flex or the Equal-i-zer end up giving you the balance and sway control you needed? Your update could make it easier for others towing similar trailers.
