Recommended Wiring for a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport w/ Park Sense

Updated 02/17/2025 | Published 01/22/2025

Question:

Can you confirm what I have identified as needed to flat tow my Jeep? I previously towed a 2000 jeep and a 2015 jeep using a 7 pin connector RV side to 4 way Pollak plug jeep side cable. My RV is a 2006 Newmar Dutch Star 4320 with separate brake and signal lights. The jeep brake lights are on when I push the brake pedal with jeep off so, I believe I need a brake light relay RM88400 on the Jeep. It appears the Jeep rear taillight LEDs are a combined system since the brake light is off when the turn single is on. So, I believe I need a taillight wiring converter RM-732 on my RV. However, I did not install this for my 2015 Jeep which I believe also had combined lighting system, and everything functioned properly. Perhaps the 7 pin connector on RV is combined as it goes to a 4 way Pollack. Do you have an idea on this or how I can verify this? My new Jeep is a 2023 Wrangler High Tide Base Sport with Park Sense Rear Park Assist with LED taillights, so I believe I must use wiring kit 152789 RM-732 on the Jeep. Is the above, correct? Also, is there is an issue with the RV lights being incandescent and the Jeep lights LED?

Thanks for all of the information Brent! You have done your home work extremely well. Let me reassure you that as long as your Newmar Dutch Star has a fully functional 7-way connector you won't need to address anything on your RV as far as wiring goes. We'll handle that with parts for the Jeep. The fact you were able to successfully tow a 2015 Jeep without any issues means the 4-way and 7-way are already combining the signals leaving the item # RM-732 as a redundant part you won't need. There are no issues with your RV not having LED lights and your Jeep being equipped with them.

For your 2023 Jeep Wrangler High Tide Base Sport, you will indeed need the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights item # RM47ZR you referenced. This is recommended specifically by Roadmaster and works with your Park Sense Rear Park Assist and your LED taillights. You will also need the RoadMaster 6-Wire Trailer Connector item # RM-910030-7 and item # RM-910030-5 unless you kept the one off your old Jeep.

As far as a brake light relay goes you are correct. You will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-88400.

You may also need a brake light switch, you'll want to put your Jeep in the tow position with the ignition key. If you can press the pedal and activate your brakes you don't need one. If your brakes do not active you'll have to install the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit item # RM-751000.

I have linked some installation videos below along with the instructions. Feel free to email me directly or comment below if you have any additional questions.

Jerred, The connector on the old jeep was a 4-wire. Does this change anything you previously advised? For the brake light switch recommendation, I note that my jeep does not have an ignition key. It has a fob and push button. So, going into tow position does not involve an ignition key. Does this change anything? I have another question on the brake light switch. As it appears the RM751000 is instrumentation only, could I get by without it on assumption the supplemental brake system is perfectly installed and functioning? Further, my supplemental brake system is probably going to be an NRS Ready Brake having the aircraft cable routed directly to the peddle, very simple braking solution, an no supplemental braking monitoring per se. It has worked perfectly for about 12 years now. What do you think?

@BrentB It does change things. You will want to install the Roadmaster Brite-Lite 3-to-2 Tail Light Converter item # RM-732. No, not really if the brakes won't activate in the tow setting you'll want the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit item # RM-751000. Doesn't look like like you will need it with the NRS Ready Brake. It's just a surge brake.

@JerredH I am now unsure of the 88400 Brake Light Relay Kit. My 2023 has the Start/Stop system having a "Brake Pedal Travel Sensor" that measures through resistance the brake pedal position. So there is not a simple on/off circuit. Please advise.

Jerred, I have verified that the Smart Diode Kit is the only kit needed for my 2023 JL. Jeep brake lights do not override as the system times out shortly after door is closed. Further, it is ill advised to cut into brake system with ABS and start/stop. Brent
