Video Transcript for Roadmaster Base Plate Pin with Oversize Grip Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be checking out the Roadmaster base plate pin with an oversize handle. Now, honestly, this is one of those accessories you really don't give much thought about, and until you go to use one. Your tow bar that you're using, it's gonna come with the factory tight pin, which is this one here and they worked fine. They work perfect. But honestly, for me, when it comes to a flat tow setup, anything that can ease installation, simplify it and streamline it is a no brainer.

And using a pin like this, it's gonna help with that. It gives you a big handle here that you can grab onto and really get some leverage when you go to pull this pin out. And the fact that we have a red handle here, you can take a quick glance back here, spot it and know that it's setup correctly. So we actually have one set up here through our base plate and through the tow bar, kinda give you an idea how it works. And like I said, this has gotta be a direct replacement for those factory type pins, but these are definitely easier to use.

Super easy to pull out onto the pin there at that big handle and slide it right out. Same thing, whenever you're trying to line it up, everything just goes together much smoother. And this will be especially useful on some of the setups that have quite a few miles on them already. The ends of the tow bars kinda start to get caked up, some grind and stuff built up in there. And they're not always super easy to grab and pull out and having a big place to hold onto like this is definitely gonna help you out with that, especially too, in the winter months.

If you have your rig out and you're flat towing during the winter and it's ice cold out, having a big rubber grip here to kinda get a hold on things is definitely gonna help out, especially if you got gloves on and things like that. Bigger handle, I mean, it's a no brainer. It just makes things a lot easier to work with. So not only are these gonna be a direct replacement if you happen to lose the originals or something like that, but also use them as an upgrade. And honestly, I think if I was setting up my flat tow setup, that's something I would really consider.

I do a lot of these flat tows, we get one in about every single week that we tackle. And so I see a lot of the inconveniences and these pins are kind of that piece that makes it or breaks it, almost. Everything else is real easy. Why not simplify this And so honestly, I think what I would probably do if I had a new setup, I think I would grab these to use these primarily, and then hold onto the original ones as backups. 'Cause when you're over the road, it's always good to be prepared. It's always good to have more than what you need. And so that's honestly how I would see myself using them. That way, if something did happen to these, if you left them behind or lost them, whatever, at least you're not stranded. You could go back to your originals and pop these in and they'll still get the job done. The diameter of the pin itself is gonna be three-quarters of an inch. And these are going to work with the Roadmaster motorhome mounted tow bars. I do like the fact that they tied it on this pin here, with this little piece of cable. It's actually almost like a coated steel cable. I have a really hard time seeing that break. So chances are pretty good. These two components are gonna stay together for quite some time, if not indefinitely, as long as nothing crazy happens to them. The pin itself, it feels good. Whenever you put the screw in and lock it down, it really does snap down and is really tight. So it'll give you the confidence knowing that once you lock this down, this pin is not coming out. But you know, other than that, at the end of the day, a great little piece. It makes things go a little bit smoother, whether you're looking for an extra set or even that direct replacement. With all that said, that'll finish up our look at of the Roadmaster base plate pins with the oversize handle. Thanks for watching..

The handles on these base plate pins make the job of getting the pins out easy when removing them from the tow bar. They are well made and sturdy. The only minor problem is the alignment of the handle to the retainer pin hole when using in conjunction with a RoadMaster Guardian Rock Shield. I had to bend one side of the handle some to be able to insert the base plate pin in alignment to insert the retainer pin. When they are both inline the retainer pin cannot be inserted as needed without handle modification. As depicted in the pictures I had to bend the handles to attain clearance from the mounting bracket for the Rock Shield.

The pins as modified are still working out. However, the black powder coating on the pins needs to be sanded off. The coating makes the pins stick.

by:

Good idea but handles interfer with Rock Guardian holder. I was able to cut to make work but find the OEM pins are just as easy to use.

by:

Quality product that is durable and works well with my Roadmaster tow bar.

by:

Finally a common scene solution to help you out of a bind (pun intended). We pulled our Jeep Wrangler today and I was able to fit three gloved fingers in the handle. The powder coating on one of the pins was a little thick, but this will wear off quickly. I'm very satisfied with this upgrade.

After a year of use, I am still pleased with these pins. They make both hook up and unhooking easier and faster.

by:

Haven't tried them yet but often need a little pulling power with slightly bound pins. this should help.

by:

Well built, good design with lots of thought in how to make this a great accessory to your flat tow system.

by:

These are the greatest thing ever! For years I struggled to remove the baseplate pins when unhooking my toad, these make it amazingly easy. What took Raodmaster so long? Highly recommend these baseplate pins.

After using these pins for about a year I still think they are great. No more struggling to remove the pins. The big handle is easy to grasp and makes removal very easy. The handle is also really handy when ing the pin during hook-up. Great product.

Thank you

by:

These are great alternatives to the ones provided with the tow unit

by:

The oversized grip makes it much easier to disconnect the car.

by:

At the time, I needed these in a hurry and they were expedited. Very pleased.

by:

Perfect fit to the Roadmaster direct connect arms and huge improvement over standard cotter pins with this units flip over detainment ring. The large coated handle makes them much easier to pull out of direct connect arms. Due the diameter of hole where the retainment pins goes through you also have the option of securing these with the Roadmaster 302 2-pack Quick-Disconnect Padlocks, which are keyed alike.

by:

Much easier to use than the original version without the handle.

Saw these replacement pins advertised in Motorhome magazine. The stock pins on my Roadmaster tow bar can sometimes be difficult to get out but these big grips make pin removal much easier. I would have given 5 stars but I find that the black powder coating on the pins make them a little tight. Hopefully some spray silicone and a little wear will take care of that.

I’m gonna break this review into 3 parts; 2 of which I can respond to now.
1. Customer service and the front of Jesse was outstanding responsive, professional, felt I was listen to intrigu with respect, and then he did what he said he would do.
It’s amazing how simple that is in yet so rare to find people that will keep their word but he did!!!
2. The quality of the product does match what was promised and they looked up some good, part three we’re gonna have to wait on and that is to see how durable and tough are these things actually, I find that says for this job are in a location that are going to get the absolute worst treatment because they get mud and snow Saul rain and then they also get all the same thing kicked by the driving vehicle. So I remain a little bit suspicious of the still aren’t going to be tough enough. The product I am looking for all Emily needs to be made out of stainless. These are not I don’t think. They do look good I do look tough, but they honestly look very similar to Others I’ve gotten in the past, and they all look good when they were new to… But they don’t last very long about six months to maybe a year I’m looking for stainless because those will last much longer.

Odelia did a great job understanding what I wanted and got everything put together and shipped, The hitch assemble is working great

by:

Blame me for not doing my due diligence, great product but the pins are too long for the base plate on my Jeep. Using a roadmaster tow bar so I sent for the pins. Really liked the handle feature.

by:

they are easier to use for my wife and I, the color is nice, keeps you from knee bumping, again the service, accuracy, pricing is wonderful

They are wonderful, never lose them, the size lets me place in the bracket when hooking or unhooking, durable and strong

by:

Not at this time.

by:

Much easier to use then the standard hitch pins.

by:

Great customer service. Awesome tow bar. Had one little clip missing but they shipped me the missing part without question the same day I called.

by:

Works great.

by:

Had not used yet but appear to be very good quality. The big handle should make pulling pins much easier.

  • Availability of Larger Tow Bar Pins for Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar
The Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain # RM-522 is a great tow bar and I'm glad you're enjoying your experience with it! The cold can be quite frustrating to deal with but if you use the Base Plate Pins w/ Oversize Grip # RM-910049 instead of the pins that came with the tow bar you should be able to keep your gloves on so you aren't bothered as much by the colder weather when you are towing your vehicle. Attached is a review video of these pins for you to check out!
