Question:

I have a 2021 GMC 3500 dually truck. We haul a heavy race trailer and are looking for air bags for the truck along with an onboard compressor system. I am having issues finding what I looking for because it is a dually.

Hello Aaron,

Now you say you are pulling a heavy race trailer, so it sounds like you need some heavy duty airbags to go with it. The Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F2709 are good for leveling a load up to 7,500 pounds, but most importantly are going to fit your 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually. Now if your load is under 5K I would recommend going with the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613 as they will also fit the dually, and have a load leveling capacity of 5,000 pounds. By going with a heavier bag than needed, it can cause a harsh ride due to the size of the bag.

For the onboard compressor I am going to give you a couple of different options. 1st option being the Firestone Air Command Extreme Duty Air Compressor with Tank - Remote and Smartphone App - Dual Path # F46VV, this option would be great if you go with the Red Label air bags # F2709 as it goes up to 150 psi, this compressor also comes with a 2 gallon air tank so the compressor will even work for airing up your tires. It also comes with a remote and is bluetooth compatible, so you don't even need to leave the cab of your truck to control the bags. For the same compressor minus the air tank (seeing how you have a race car trailer you probably already have a way to air up your tires) you will want the # F96VV.

If you just need the bags with the load leveling capacity of 5,000 pounds # F2613 I would go with the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System for Air Helper Springs EZ Mount # AL74000EZ. This compressor has a max 100 psi so it would be able to handle the standard duty air bags no problem. It also comes with a remote, and is bluetooth compatible as well.

Hey Aaron, how did the Firestone air bags and compressor setup work out on your GMC 3500 dually when hauling your race trailer? It’d be great to hear if the ride and leveling improved with the combo you chose. Your update could make it easier for others towing heavy loads to decide what works best.

@KateF- Yes, they work great. I haul a 50ft gooseneck race trailer and the bags have made a world of difference. The ride is so much smoother and there is less bounce in the trailer.
