Wiring a trailer can be intimidating if it means slicing into factory wiring, but this harness skips that hassle. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector plugs directly into the tail light connectors. No rewiring or modification needed—just match the plugs and it’s ready to go.
Many trailers pull more current than a vehicle’s wiring can safely handle. This harness includes a powered converter that draws power directly from the battery instead of pulling it through the vehicle’s lighting circuits. That setup keeps sensitive electronics safe from shorts or overloads by isolating the trailer lighting power from the vehicle’s internal system.
The 4-pole flat connector gives you the essentials—running lights, turn signals, and brake lights—so your trailer stays visible and legal on the road. It’s also the standard connector type for light-duty towing, making it easy to hook up to most small utility trailers, campers, or boat trailers.
To keep voltage steady and lighting bright, one wire runs directly to the positive terminal on the battery through an included fuse holder. That direct connection ensures each trailer light gets full power, even under load, while protecting both the harness and the vehicle with a dedicated fused circuit.
The harness tucks neatly behind trim panels and uses existing grommets for a hidden, factory-style look. Solid connectors and a secure ground to bare metal keep moisture out and signals strong—even after years of towing.
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver’s-side and passenger’s-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you’ve plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Theoretically, a standard 4-pin connector without a taillight converter and direct connection to the battery will work. However, the powered converter is recommended for two reasons. 1 The converter serves to isolate the vehicles sensitive and expensive to repair electrical system system from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. 2 Years ago, the vehicle manufacturers used heavier-gauge wire for the taillight circuits, so pulling the extra amperage for trailer lights through those circuits wasnt a problem. Now, due to the need to save every ounce of vehicle weight and the rising cost of copper, smaller gauge wiring is used which might not be able to handle the extra load from trailer taillights. The powered converter will draw its power directly from the vehicle battery, providing a reliable power supply for your trailer taillights.
