Is it possible to test the RV fictions w/o wiring the plug to the trailer. I want to use this with multiple vehicles as a diagnostic tool.

I found a solution for you. The 7-Way Trailer Vehicle Tester, # C73NR, will allow you to test the lighting functions on your vehicle's 7-way trailer connector.
The plug connects and used LED lights that will display if you have a properly functioning 7-way or if there is an issue with the vehicles signal output at the connector.
Also, if you are needing to test a 4-way flat connecter, I recommend the Curt LED 4-Way Tester, # I26.
