If you deal with wet roads, salt, or long exposure to the elements, this steel modular wheel is made to last. The 14" x 6" Taskmaster wheel uses a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating process that bonds an aluminum layer to the steel in a vacuum environment. That gives it a hard, wear-resistant black finish that won’t pit or peel like chrome. It held up through over 168 hours of salt spray and 500 hours of water immersion testing, so it stays looking sharp even in rough weather.
Loose lug nuts can ruin a trip, but this wheel’s design helps prevent that. The automotive-rated center disc and uncoated beveled stud holes improve clamp force retention, helping the wheel stay tight against the hub over time. It’s a simple upgrade that gives extra confidence on long hauls and frequent towing.

The black PVD finish reflects light like chrome but with a darker tone that stands out. Owners describe it as “black chrome” thanks to how it shines and resists chipping or peeling better than traditional chrome plating. If you’re refreshing a setup or want something more modern than standard painted steel, this finish looks clean and stays that way longer.
This wheel measures 14" in diameter and 6" wide with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, 3.27" pilot diameter, and zero offset for balanced mounting. Rated at 1,870 lbs and built to SAE J1204 standards, it includes the valve stem so you can bolt it up knowing you’ve got proper capacity and fitment for typical trailer setups.
This wheel should be cleaned with only mild soap and water. Do not use rim cleaners or other abrasive cleaners.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

I am sorry that the rims arrived this way to you. I am afraid that there is not a PVD coating that can be used to touch them up. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to work towards a solution.

About one year later and the rims and tires look brand new. The color is labeled Black PVD, but they are more like a Black Pearl rainbow.

Totally, Brent! Now if you have to use the spare, you'll still be riding in style :) Did you spend any time on the water over the weekend?
