A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today, we're taking a look at the Peterson Piranha LED trailer clearance and side marker light. This being an LED light, it's gonna last longer than your typical incandescent bulb, and it's also going to act as our clearance light and our side marker light, since it's PC-rated. It will be able to be seen in that 180 degree range or 90 degrees off the center line.This is a nice looking mount. We'll have our five diodes installed there. On the back, it has a plug or a port to allow our two-prong plug to get pushed in giving us our wiring connection. The two-prong plug is available separately.

Power it up and as you can see, we'll have one, two, three, four and five diodes there to give us a nice bright light.Pretty bright for our clearance lights. Definitely will be seen when we're out on the road.Those are gonna be white LEDs underneath a red lens and again, nice thing about LEDs is that these are gonna be much efficient. Longer lasting than your incandescent bulb.
Uses less energy, so we'll have less power draw for our light. It's compatible with 12 volt DC systems.DOT compliant. Again, PC rated and made in the USA.The light has a two and a half inch diameter and it's about an inch and 3/16 deep. Going from the front of the light to the back of those terminals there.We'll have those five diodes and our power draw at 12 volts is 0.14 amps. So, very low amp draw.And, this does have a 10 year limited warranty from Peterson for those diodes.
We can also pick up a grommet to go with our light. If we want to mount it that way. Just pops in there. Gives a little road shock protection for our light and just kind of cleans it up. Makes it look fancy.
This grommet is available separately here at Etrailer.com. The part number for that is 142-18.You see it has a hole in back to allow our wiring to go through. If you choose to use a grommet, that works for the three inch diameter hole.And, that's gonna do it for our look at the Peterson Piranha LED trailer clearance and side marker light.
