Take a look at the Peterson Sealed Chrome Snap-In License Plate or Utility Light. This is a chrome-plated steel lite that'll snap into a 1-1/4-inch diameter hole. It's commonly used to illuminate a license plate on step bumpers, does require two units for legal license illumination, but it can also be used as a interior light, compartment light, courtesy light, or general illumination utility light. Does have a 5-1/2-inch wire lead. It's a black wire for power. Then, when you do snap this in, it snaps into a metal surface, so that's the ground.
I am going to hook this up at the end of the video just to show you how that works and how it lights up.Give the overall diameter on the light itself. From edge to edge, it's going to be right at 1-1/2 inches. Total depth from the very front of the light to the very back, it's right at 2 inches. Again, the design, you can see here, it'll snap into a 1-1/4-inch diameter hole. What we're going to do now is I got some 12-volt power here. We'll go ahead and hook the wire up, and you can see we're going to hook the power to the black wire, and then we're going to take the ground and hook it to one of these snap-in clips.
That's what'll go into the metal surface when you install it. Then, we'll go ahead and turn the power on, and you can see with it on, it lights it up. I'll go ahead and turn off the overhead lights, and you can see, gives you a nice, bright light to light up your license plate, and then we'll go turn back on the overhead lights, disconnect the power. That should do it for the review on the Peterson Sealed Chrome Snap-In License Plate or Utility Light.

This license plate light works perfectly for my 1985 Toyota Long-bed Pickup bumper. Every few years I need to replace the left- or right-hand light. These lights fit perfectly in the existing hole so the install takes just 10 minutes or so. It would be optimum if the length of wire was a bit longer but that is a very small issue. The performance of the light so far is outstanding.
Not a lot of light output. Very average.
