They work excellent! The trailer is so much tighter. When it is empty, you can't even feel it behind me. Except the noise from the ramps. I also have to thank my buddy Rob, he put a lot of time and labor into getting the trailer in like new condition. Sorry don't have photos at the moment. 912400

The diagram that is shown below has incorrect dimensions. After all the hangers were mocked up as the given dimensions show the axle center to center distance was 29" not 30". I actually over looked double checking the center to center measurement and had to cut the center and back hangers off and will be moving them. 722909

Ask the Experts about this etrailer Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • Where To Place the Leaf Spring Hangers On a Tandem Axle Trailer
The leaf spring hanger positions are largely dependent on which equalizers and leaf springs you will be using. For example, if you were to use the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APT3 with the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles part # SP-111275. The front and rear leaf spring hanger would need to be placed 29-1/2" in front and behind the center leaf spring hanger. The center leaf spring hanger would then need to be placed in between the two...

  • Rebuilding a Tandem Axle Trailer with 6,000 Lb - 7,200 Lb Axles
I would love to help but are you sure that you have space to lower the trailer 4" - 6"? You will need at least 3" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender in order to allow for proper suspension travel. It looks like the fenders on the trailer now will not allow for this therefore I would you to do some measuring before any of the new parts are purchased. I would also need more info on the trailer such as axle capacity (see center label), leaf spring length (eye to eye),...

  • Equalizer Dimensions and Shackle Strap Thickness for Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit
The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APT3 comes with the Curved Equalizer for 1-3/4" Wide Double-Eye Springs part # TREQE1 which measures 7-3/4" long from the center of the lower two holes and 3-3/16" from the center of the lower two holes to the center of the top hole. The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs also comes with the 2-5/8" Long Shackle Strap part # 115052 which measures 2-5/8" long from the center of each hole and 3/16" thick.

  • Why Do Trailer Hanger/Equalizer Kits all Use Different Height Suspension Hangers
When the suspension hangers, equalizers, and shackles are installed from a kit like the part # APT3 the goal is to have the leaf spring as level as possible. The different height hangers is offset by the height of the equalizer and shackles so that when it's all said and down everything is at a level height. Check out the picture I attached of a kit like this installed to get an idea. The great thing about these kits is that the correct height of everything is already all worked out.

  • Can Tandem Axle Spring Hanger Spacing Be Increased to 30-1/4-Inches to Fit Larger 235/80R16 Tires
For your 3-inch axles the normal spacing of the hangers included in the DexterTandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit is 29-1/2-inches. You can probably space them the 3/4-inches further apart, to a spacing of 30-1/4-inches, without too much impact on the suspension geometry. However, you may be able to compensate for this change by using longer shackle straps. The shackle straps supplied with the kit are part # 115052 which are 2-5/8-inches long. We offer part # TRSL313 from TruRyde. We...

  • Leaf Spring and Hanger Kit Recommendation for a Trailer with Tandem 3,500 lb Axles
Yes, the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT3 would work great on a tandem axle with 3,500 lb axles. For leaf springs with a 3,500 lb rating that this kit is designed to work with you would want the part # SP-212275.

  • Raising a Gooseneck Trailer with Tandem Axles for More Clearance
If your springs are currently under the axles on your trailer, you can use what is called an over under conversion kit, # K71-385-00. This kit will allow you to move the springs to the top of the axle. For tandem axles, you would need 2 kits. They only fit 3 inch diameter axles. This kit will eliminate the need for welding new spring seats on top of the axle. I have included a link to a picture of what the new set up will look like. • Tandem Axle Trailer Suspension Hanger Kit To Provide More Axle Clearance
It sounds as if your trailer suspension was built with the common Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, # APT3, and that the springs and attachment hardware are wearing out enough that with the weight you are carrying there is no longer enough room for the suspension to work without contacting the trailer frame. I would recommend stepping up to the Heavy Duty Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, # APT3HD, or the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit, # AP233-H248. The # APT3HD kit comes with 2-1/2...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Suspension that Shackle and Equalizer Flip Over
First thing you want to do is verify that you are using the correct dimensions for your hanger spacing on your trailer. The distance between the center hanger and either of the outside hangers should be right at 29-1/2 inches. There should be at least 3-1/2 inches from the center of the axle o the trailer frame. Also, you need to make sure your trailer is being towed level. If your trailer is nose high or low that can cause the suspension of a tandem axle trailer to be unbalanced. I...

  • How to Decide Which Tandem Axle Trailer Hanger Kit to Use
Typically when building a tandem axle trailer I recommend using either the # APT3 or # APT5 Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit. These are the most common kits used for utility trailers and parts are readily available. The # APT5 kit is by far the most common because all the hangers are the same height and provide good tire clearance. There are a lot of variables when selecting a hanger kit. First you should select a kit that will accommodate the wheel and tire combination you are using....

  • What is the Torque Spec Rating for 9/16 Inch Diameter Shackle Bolts
There is not a specific torque spec for shackle bolts including the ones in the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit part # APT3. They need to be secure but if they are too tight then the leaf springs will bind and cause problems in your trailer's suspension. The lock nuts included with the kit will ensure the bolts do not fall out. I recommend tightening the nuts until they makes contact with the shackle strap and then add another 1/4 turn. This should give you the right amount of torque needed...

  • Trailer Suspension Kit Recommendation for Tandem Trailer Similar to APT5 but With 4.25 inch Hangers
Since we don't have the exact kit you need you'd have to piece the kit together that you need. For hangers you'd want the pat # E4139 which is 4-1/4 inches tall like you mentioned needing. For 2-1/4 inch long shackle straps you'd then want the part # 18-11GALV. For the equalizers # TREQE1. And then for bolts # 126B2.

  • Picking Out Replacement Double Eye Springs for 1,720 lb Trailer
When replacing trailer leaf springs we strongly recommend you replace them in pairs. I would urge you to get a set of matching properly rated springs for your trailer as soon as possible. If you look on the frame of your trailer there should be a plate with the trailer VIN number and the axle capacities of the trailer. You will want to pick leaf springs that are as close to the axle capacity as possible. I attached a link to a page that has all of the 2k rated double-eye springs we carry...

  • Leaf Spring and Hanger Kit Recommendation for Tandem Trailer with 5k Axles
Since you are looking to replace everything best thing is to go with a properly rated 5,000 lb per axle leaf spring like you need and then build the parts you need from there. So for a 5k rating 4-leaf spring we have the part # SP-218275 which is 25-1/4 inches long. This is a very common length. Then for a kit that includes new hangers, shackles, and equalizers we have the tandem suspension kit part # APT3 which would work well.

  • What to Consider When Converting Single Axle Trailer to Tandem Axle
You can convert a single axle trailer to a tandem axle but it's more extensive than just putting the extra axle on there. The current axle does need to be repositioned for proper tongue weight. You'll want the shackle hanging at a slight angle so that it doesn't want to flip upside down at any point. If it's totally vertical it will want to flip over much easier. Adding an axle certainly could be done while still using the old axle. It would be a matter of getting a tandem hanger kit like part # APT3 with the new axle.
