Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

The hitch fit perfectly, and was a breeze to install. It fits just like the factory receiver and allows me to use the existing cover to hide it when not in use.

@BrookeM we use to with our bike rack and even more often while traveling with a hitch rack. We have towed a small trailer with it, but I’m confident it will do everything we need it to do and then some.

Very sturdy, an extremely easy install after following the videos. Took about an hour total to install this and the wiring for trailer lights. I’m not a very handy person either, so it was very easy.

Hey Ann, install looks great! I hate how rough the mail system is on the boxes, thank you for your patience with that. What are you using the hitch for?

Direct bolt on, super easy install, and works well with our 2” cargo carrier that we bought from Amazon. It’s nice that it hides within the bumper as well.

This hitch for my wife’s 2023 Subaru Ascent and it was just perfect. The installation video was to the point and I was able to install it on my own. I have used it mostly for bike carrier and no complains.
As always thank you etrailer for quality product and clear instructions.

Still going good, its been used sparingly as i use the hitch on my other car the most that too bought from etrailer

by:

Package arrived damaged but no damage to hitch. Hardware securely taped to hitch. After watching installation videos for 2024 Suabru Ascent Premium multiple times and reading directions, I decided to install the hitch even though I am a 79 Yr old female with a 73 yr old female friend to help. Removing the pushpins/clips on the facia was a challenge without a ramp. But with use of a mirror, flat head screw driver and trim tool, all fasteners were removed. Easy to remove the two covers next to the tail gate just take your time and don't force it. Facia was easy to remove from wheel wells and around the back corners then it became much more difficult. Again take your time and hold the top and bottom of facia when pulling away from the bumper. Difficult to disengage the RAB fuse but again, take your time. Removing bumper and installing hitch was simple. I didn't think I could torque the bolts/nuts so a kind neighbor assisted. Reinstalling facia was not easy but installing pushpins went smoothly. The hitch appears to be well made, not a fan of the chain hooks on the top and I question the overall strength of the hitch attachment bolts/nuts if towing a larger heavy trailer but it will work well for bike racks, cargo carriers and my lightweight teardrop camper. If towing a larger trailer/camper I would compare with the OEM hitch. It would be helpful if Etrailer Installationn videos spent a little more time on facia removal and reinstallation. Overall not too difficult installation, If I can do it so can you.

Fit perfectly! Very well made. Shipped quickly. We have had this in service for one year now. Yesterday my wife was bumped from behind and it absorbed the blow, transferring the energy to the frame as the collision bar it replaces would have done. It was unblemished.

Glad that it wasn't a serious car accident and that your wife is ok! Its so nice that your car was spared, too, as I know how much of an upset an accident can cause!

by:

Took me a little under two hours to install. The most time consuming part was getting the fascia off. The video for the 2024 Subaru Ascent shows it dropping off after the clips holding the sides in are disengaged but note that there is another set of clips holding the middle of the fascia in and quite a bit of force is needed to disengage them. It took me a while to figure this out as I did not want to damage the fascia.

by:

Everything came as stated. High quality material and welds. Fitment was perfect!! I thought the bolts had fallen out because the box was damaged on arrival, contacted customer service and they gave me 2 options. They could overnight me new hardware, or they’d send me the bolt and washer specs and I could get them myself and send them the receipt and they would refund me what I spent on the bolts. Was awesome to have a quick response with more than 1 option to get the issue resolved. I ended up finding the hardware wrapped up tightly and tape in packing material that I originally thought was just protection material only. We have a 2023 Ascent and the 2021 video was spot on. Was quick and easy. Loved the list of tools needed so I could gather them prior to starting. Never had to go back and get a tool because they listed it all. Hands down best DIY experience. Will definitely be recommending and buying more from etrailer!!!

@Thomas Unfortunately they do eventually rust. I like to touch mine up with a little Rust-Oleum after sanding it down a little to keep the rust from spreading, and I like my stuff to look nice. What do you mainly use the hitch for?

The product works as intended at only 60% of the dealership price. The installation video was perfect as well making it super easy to get it on.

Quality hitch for a great price! Installation was very straightforward thanks to the detailed videos provided by etrailer.

This is my third time ordering from etrailer. Parts always fit and easy to install. I had no problems installing this hitch. I followed their instructionational video. I had no issues hauling a trailer from Virginia to Seattle. I would recommend. Ridiculously easy to install and 1/3rd the price of the Subaru one. I thought maybe there would be a catch with the lower price, but matched perfectly to the factory holes. Hole install took about 30 minutes.

by:

This hitch makes the most of the tight space available. Pretty straight forward install once you remove the panel and the bumper bar. Basic instructions are included but watching a video online definitely helped me out with the install process

  • Is etrailer or EcoHitch Better for a 2021 Subaru Ascent
Hey Sergi, thanks for reaching out! Go with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e55ZR. There are some subtle differences in design but really what the price difference amounts to is the EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7381 was really the first of it's kind on the market, but then other companies started coming out with their own designs like it and TorkLift/EcoHitch still thinks that their design is much more superior to everything else on the market...which it isn't. This harness and all of the ones that fit your vehicle do require the 4-way to store inside the rear door and then when you need it you would pull it out and shut the door over the wiring.
