Hi, Im looking to get my 2023 Subaru Ascent set up for towing a small utility trailer. There are a lot of options for the hitch so I was looking for some insight. Thanks.

To tow a small trailer with your 2023 Subaru Ascent, I recommend the etrailer Hitch item # e55ZR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver so it will be able to max out your Subaru's towing capacity.

I really like the etrailer Hitch item # e55ZR because the crosstube mounts completely behind your rear bumper. This leaves only the 2" receiver visible which not only helps with ground clearance but also looks better.

To tow a small trailer you will need a 4-way connector to control the lighting functions. You will want the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56040. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Subaru's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

To round out your towing setup, I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop.
