Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Toyota Yaris - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2007 Toyota Yaris we'll be installing the Draw-Tite sport frame trailer hitch receiver in a class 1 with an inch and a quarter opening on the receiver, part number 24819. Now here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately three and a half inches; from the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 12 inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with here we'll need to remove two plastic rivets that hold this rear fascia in place. Do not throw these rivets away as we will be reinstalling them once our hitch is in place.

To get the plastic rivets out just simply use a large flathead screw driver or a trim panel removal tool to work the rivets out by simply pulling out the center of the rivet and then working the rest of the rivet out of the hole. Now let's go ahead and point out the locations we'll be mounting our hitch to our vehicle. There'll be two locations on either side. We'll be removing the lower bolt as well as the inboard bolt on both the driver and the passenger side. Once we have each of the bolts out on both sides we're ready to put our hitch up into position. Now the new hardware that we'll be using is an M8 bolt with a conical tooth washer.

We want to make sure that the teeth on the washer do face towards the hitch when installed. All four of the locations we'll be using exactly the same hardware. Now let's go ahead and raise the hitch up into position. As you raise the hitch up into place you'll have to pull down on the tab of the fascia that you removed the rivet from earlier.

You need to make sure that the hitch goes up above this tab on the rear fascia. We'll begin by putting the lower bolt in on both sides making sure again that the teeth on the conical tooth washer are facing towards the hitch. Once we have each of the lower bolts in to hold the hitch in place we'll go ahead then and put the top bolt in on each side. Now that we have all the hardware loosely installed on the hitch now lets go ahead and tighten it down and then we'll torque it down to the manufacture specification. Now that we have all the hardware torqued to the manufacture specification we'll go ahead and put the two plastic rivets in that we removed earlier. Once the plastic rivets are back in place that'll complete our installation of the Draw-Tite sport frame trailer hitch part number 24819 on our 2007 Toyota Yaris.

Was a little more difficult to put in than I expected from the instructions but that was just because the Yaris is a small car and you have to work in tight spaces. The two lower bolts go in very easily but the two upper bolts are where the tight space restriction comes in. 24571

I've had this hitch on my 2011 Yaris for a year now. It's held a hitch basket holding a 6 person tent, 60lb deep cycle battery, bag of tools, and an air mattress for about 8,000 miles across 24 states. It is damn strong and very reliable. Worth every penny! It was a pain to install but that's because I didn't have the right wrench for the tight space to reach the bolts. 489365

So far this is a good product. Though the design makes the installation of the upper bolts difficult. The design makes the space to access the upper bolts into a tube. I had to use some long handled needle nose pliers to get the bolt started. It was tricky. And it takes a while to turn those bolts in. With patience and perseverance it can be done. But it's not easy. Thank goodness the bolt holes lined up. It they didn't match perfectly I'd still be under there. 58018

How time flies. I couldnt be happier. The hitch is still operating great. And one thing Ive noticed for this hitch as opposed to the one on my last car is that this one doesnt have the problem with the inside surfaces of the receiver swelling from rust. My last hitch I bought from a local company who installed it. I cant remember the name of the manufacturer. I had to often clean out the ID of the receiver with a reciprocating saw to allow the receiver bar to slide in without locking up in the receiver. So far I dont have that problem. A nice change. Im assuming the new hitch is of a better metal more resistant to rusting.

As per other reviews, do not attempt to put on if you have large hands and sausage sized fingers. Top bolts are an exercise in frustration. Luckily my friend has much smaller hands, and was able to get them in inside a half hour. You only notice the hitch reciever if you are looking for it. Instruction were great, it even tells you which size wrenchs you need. 58449

Receiver installation presented a little difficulty with getting two of the fasteners removed and new ones installed. That was totally due to the difficult access with large hands on such a small vehicle. Quiet perseverance got it done. 529655

Thanks for asking. I've used the hitch, bike carrier and stabilizer strap for two years now continuously. The only issues that I have had are that the plastic coating around the metal hook that attaches the stabilizer strap to the car has split, exposing metal which is starting to rust, and the closed foam cushions on the bike clamps that keep the bike held down and secure are starting to split on the top. But it is still working fine. 467240

It has been a year and the hitch continues to perform well. Many are shocked to see a Yaris with a hitch. With a lightweight trailer it does great. We moved 250 miles and we loaded a trailer with a riding mower, a gas grill and assorted tools and got 32 mpg at 65. There are a couple of bolts that were a challenge to put on. I put the hitch on by myself and it has worked out very well. 366548

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Comparing Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24819 and Hidden Hitch # 60209 For a 2010 Toyota Yaris
Actually, there are 4 trailer hitches available for the 2010 Toyota Yaris Sedan. I have included a link to them for you to view. And you are correct, both the Draw-Tite # 24819 and the Hidden Hitch # 60209 (no longer available) will fit. The difference between these two is that the Hidden Hitch, # 60209, comes with the correct ball mount, pin, and clip. With the Draw-Tite Hitch, you would have to purchase them separately. You actually save a little money when going with the Hidden Hitch....

  • What Wrench Makes Installing Upper Bolt of Draw Tite Hitch 24819 Easier
The size wrench or socket used for installing the hardware of the # 24819 is 1/2 inch although one customer said he used a 13 mm. A couple customers have came back and said that flat wrenches or ratcheting wrenches would help the most for the difficult to access bolt. Smaller hands seems to be the consensus as well. I attached a video that shows the install as well. I wouldn't recommend removing the bumper. Between the Curt and the Draw Tite I like the Draw Tite better since it doesn't...

  • Conical Tooth Washer Placement for Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2010 Toyota Yaris
The washers that are included with trailer hitch # 24819, are conical tooth washers similar to # 01292-008. You are correct, they are sort of bowl shaped. The tooth end goes towards the hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the hitch. Using a thread locker like Loc-Tite, # LT37643, can be done but it is not necessary. The conical tooth washer prevents the bolt from backing out.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24819 is a great option to use in conjunction with the Lets Go Aero BikeWing-2 # LGA54FR on your 2009 Toyota Yaris. They are both lightweight but can accommodate the weight that you are needing to carry. To determine if your bikes can fit properly I can give you a few measurements. • Why Is There No Tow Rating On The 2010 Toyota Yaris
Toyota does not rate this vehicle for towing; this could be due to limited engine or transmission capacities, frame strength, ground clearance (only 5.5 inches) or all of the above. The availability of a hitch for a certain vehicle does not necessarily mean that vehicle can tow. Hitches are available for many non-tow-rated vehicles to enable use of accessory items like bike carriers and cargo baskets. If your 2007 Toyota Yaris S does not have the Aero package then the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24819 should fit fine. If it does have the Aero package you will most likely need to trim the area on the added fascia where the hitch receiver will be. If you plan on doing some towing, be sure to consult your owners manual to determine if you can tow with the Yaris. If you can, the correct ball mount is # 3593 and you can use pin and clip # PC2.
