Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Trailer Hitch for the Yaris. Once again the hitch folks have done an exemplary job in designing a product that is functional and tucks nicely up into the car. The only element visible and exposed is the diminutive hitch receiver. Installation was very straight forward and relatively easy. I took me about an hour to install the hitch because the space in the back of the Yaris is quite cramped (as one can imagine for a sub-compact car). My only recommendation to the trailer hitch folks would be to off-set the bracket from the transverse bar another degree of so to accommodate a little more rotation when using a box wrench to tighten the top bolt on the bracket. The area was too constricted to use my socket wrench and the space had barely enough room for a single swing of the box wrench. This was a bit frustrating as it sometimes required replacing the wrench in the last position to make that last fraction of a turn to assure that bolt had rotated far enough to the wrench would engage for the next turn. Small hands would be a big advantage for this installation. The E-Trailer folks were great too. The product arrived before the scheduled delivery date. I would highly recommend both this hitch product and the service of E-Trailer.

2011 Toyota Yaris

I've had this hitch on my 2011 Yaris for a year now. It's held a hitch basket holding a 6 person tent, 60lb deep cycle battery, bag of tools, and an air mattress for about 8,000 miles across 24 states. It is damn strong and very reliable. Worth every penny! It was a pain to install but that's because I didn't have the right wrench for the tight space to reach the bolts.

Used on my small tow vehicle. Mainly a backup to move the tow dolly. Easy install.

2007 Toyota Yaris

This works great. The install is pretty straight forward, though 30 minutes may be fairly optimistic. I tried to do it without pulling the bumper cover off. It took forever to get the bolts out, then I could only get 2 back in with the hitch receiver in place.. I pulled the bumper cover and bumper (which took less time than to get the bolts out) and it was done in 3 minutes. I would recommend pulling the cover off, and you'll spend more time pulling the cover off than anything else, and you'll be done in 30 minutes. So far it works great!

I checked into Jim's order and his cargo carrier featured in his photo is the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145
17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs
$165.27
. He also provided a review of his cargo carrier that I have linked for you as well.

35 min. Install, just a little tight to put the top bolts in.

- 24819
by:

The build of this receiver is excellent. Installing it can be tough as the top bolts are hard to access once in place. A ratcheting wrench will likely be a better tool than a socket wrench for the install.

The hitch fits perfect; easy to install; with the right tools it takes about 30 minutes to install it. Now I can use my new bike rack.

Toyota Yaris

Was a little more difficult to put in than I expected from the instructions but that was just because the Yaris is a small car and you have to work in tight spaces. The two lower bolts go in very easily but the two upper bolts are where the tight space restriction comes in.

I'm quite happy with this hitch. It was purchased so as to be able to haul two bicycles on a Toyota Yaris. Along with passengers and their gear, it's about as much as I will be hauling with such a small car, but this hitch allows me to do just that. Very satisfied with this set-up.

2011 Toyota Yaris

Nice product. Installation was reasonably easy but space is tight when you install the top bolts. The nice part is that the only thing visible is the receiver in the middle, no big bar hanging down. I bought this to use with a hitch type bicycle carrier so I don't know how difficult wiring would be.

Thanks for asking. I've used the hitch, bike carrier and stabilizer strap for two years now continuously. The only issues that I have had are that the plastic coating around the metal hook that attaches the stabilizer strap to the car has split, exposing metal which is starting to rust, and the closed foam cushions on the bike clamps that keep the bike held down and secure are starting to split on the top. But it is still working fine.

2010 Toyota Yaris

It has been a year and the hitch continues to perform well. Many are shocked to see a Yaris with a hitch. With a lightweight trailer it does great. We moved 250 miles and we loaded a trailer with a riding mower, a gas grill and assorted tools and got 32 mpg at 65. There are a couple of bolts that were a challenge to put on. I put the hitch on by myself and it has worked out very well.

- 24819
by:

So far this is a good product. Though the design makes the installation of the upper bolts difficult. The design makes the space to access the upper bolts into a tube. I had to use some long handled needle nose pliers to get the bolt started. It was tricky. And it takes a while to turn those bolts in. With patience and perseverance it can be done. But it's not easy. Thank goodness the bolt holes lined up. It they didn't match perfectly I'd still be under there.

Comments
How time flies. I couldnt be happier. The hitch is still operating great. And one thing Ive noticed for this hitch as opposed to the one on my last car is that this one doesnt have the problem with the inside surfaces of the receiver swelling from rust. My last hitch I bought from a local company who installed it. I cant remember the name of the manufacturer. I had to often clean out the ID of the receiver with a reciprocating saw to allow the receiver bar to slide in without locking up in the receiver. So far I dont have that problem. A nice change. Im assuming the new hitch is of a better metal more resistant to rusting.

Chevrolet Spark

I am 78 years old and this install was easy-peasy. There is the upper bolt by the exhaust that stopped me. Very small place for an arm. I have an air driven -what I call a spark plug driver- that reached up there and put the bolt in and tightened it enough finish it off with a long ratchet. If you don't have one, borrow one or buy one at Harbor Freight. I also bought the $60 wiring harness. Unplug your tail light and plug in the wiring harness. If you don't like to work with saddle wire-clamps; treat yourself to this. You could not make one of these for the price. Good job Etrailer. Dale

Nice quality good fit and finish on my 2008 Toyota Yaris the top pulled was an absolute pain to get in anyone trying to do this on your own do yourself favor and buy 13 M and a 12in ratcheting spanner wrench the flat profile even then it's quite difficult to get the top bolt

Perfect fit. Top bolts for mounting were almost impossible to get inserted. Ended up removing bumper, which was very simple and made putting in top bolts easy.
