Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I am pleased. Very fast shipping and the product is a described..

Very quick and easy to installThis item was so easy to install, mostly because Pontiac/Toyota had tapped holes in the frame from the factory.

Excellent qualityIt was so easy to install and fit perfectly around my muffler for my Matrix. The product arrived in very good thick cardboard packaging.

by:

Solid hitch. Easy installation. Be sure to check out the video on this site for removing corrosion from weld nuts.

by:

Great product - easy installGreat product. Easy to install. Did it by myself in less than 30 minutes. Be sure to spray WD40 in the threaded holes in the vehicle frame and make sure the threads are clean. You'll be able to screw the bolts almost all of the way by hand.

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Thank you so much! I received my hitch earlier than expected and put it on myself without problems : ) I am excited to be able to carry around my bike using this great hitch. Thank you!

The hitch went on very easy just wish the nuts on the frame were not rusted. It was a pain cleaning them out.

2008 Toyota Matrix

Good product, easy to install.2008 Toytoa Matrix (base model, no XR). Fit perfect and was easy to install (10 minutes.)

by:

Easy InstallationIt took me longer to get it out of the box than it did to actually mount it. The holes matched up perfectly and I was done in no time. I would also recommend the wiring kit as well.

by:

Easy To InstallJust received and installed. Suggest viewing video and pre-installing bolts with WD40 to insure threads are good. Total installation time 25 minutes.

by:

A warning that the muffler may have to be removed for installation would have been helpful. Once I figured out how to clean out the threads, the rest of the installation was amazingly easy.

by:

The installation video was what convinced me to buy the hitch. The actual installation went almost as smoothly as the video.

2005 Toyota Matrix

This hitch fits Perfectly on my 2005 Toyota Matrix (Base model). I did have to make a small trim on the rear bumper. Other than that, installation was easy. The box arrived quick, with great packaging. I would highly recommend it.

  • Bolt Sizes for a 2006 Toyota Matrix Trailer Hitch 24812
All of the hitches available to fit your vehicle are Class I hitches. The most common hitch, 24812, was one which fits with or without the rear fascia. The bolts for that hitch are M12 x 1.25 x 40mm. We offer replacement hardware kits part number RHK. I have included a link to the most popular hitch for you 2006 Matrix and to our hardware kits.

  • Correct Towing Capacity of Curt Hitch for 2004 Pontiac Vibe
The correct capacity for Curt hitch # C12234 is 2000 lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight. I took a look at the owner's manual and it states that your 2004 Pontiac Vibe has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs, which is the weight you would need to go by. That hitch does come with a drawbar and pin and clip, though if you are looking to tow you will also need a 4-flat connector, which you can add with T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118458. For a 1-7/8" hitch ball you would need # A-80...

  • 2008 Toyota Matrix Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation
Only the larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs will have the higher capacity 2 inch hitch available. The 2008 Toyota Matrix is a lighter duty vehicle so it only has 1-1/4 inch hitches available for it like the # 24812 which is a custom fit. You'd need to also go with a bike rack designed for this hitch size. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most...

  • Availability of a 2 Trailer Hitch for a 2004 Toyota Matrix to Carry a Bike Rack
You are definitely on the right track when it comes to not wanting to use an adapter for your bike rack. The only trailer hitches that are a confirmed fit for your 2004 Toyota Matrix have 1-1/4" receivers but if you let me know what bike rack you have I can check to see if there is an adapter that was made specifically for your bike rack (provided that we carry your bike rack). For your application I recommend installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12221. This trailer hitch requires...

Because of the upper spoiler-trim piece on the Venza, the trunk mount bike rack I recommend for your 2013 Toyota Venza and 2004 Toyota Matrix is the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top 3 Bike Rack for Vehicles with Spoilers # HRF2-3. This bike rack is designed to take any weight, that more traditional trunk mount bike racks would place on the spoiler, off of the spoiler by moving the attachment points of the straps on the rack up higher. The # HRF2-3 can carry 3 bikes and has a weight capacity...

  • Correct Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Toyota Matrix XR
The trailer hitch options for a 2006 Toyota Matrix XR are the Draw-Tite Sport Frame Receiver Hitch part # 24812 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12013 which both have a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch because of the higher class rating which will allow for more hitch mounted accessories to be used. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12923 is not a good option. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12013 however is and will not require...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2009 Toyota Matrix XRS
The Curt Class-II hitch # C12221 has a higher weight rating and would work with your 2009 Toyota Matrix XRS. Draw-Tite # 24812 is a Class-I hitch where as the Curt # 12221 is a Class-II. The Class-II hitch will have a higher rating than Class-I. But keep in mind the maximum towing weight capacity of your 2009 Toyota Matrix is 1,500 pounds per the Toyota Matrix owners manual. Per Curt instructions, the fascia might have to be trimmed on models with lower fascia but I pulled the Curt hitch...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2007 Toyota Matrix XR
All available hitches made for your 2007 Toyota Matrix XR include both Class I and Class II types in the 1-1/4-inch size. All are shown on the linked page. You'll notice all three options, parts # 24812, # C12221 and # C12013, share a very similar overall design; this is due to all of them using the same mounting points on the car's frame. This means that there will not be much if any difference between the installations. Ground clearance will not be markedly better or worse with any hitch. If...

  • Difference in Class I and Class II Ball Mounts and Can They Interchange
The correct ball mount or draw bar for the Hidden Hitch Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 24812, on your 2010 Toyota Matrix will be Draw-Tite Ball Mount, part # 3593. When towing with a Class I or Class II trailer hitch, the ball mount that is recommended by the hitch manufacturer should be used. All Class I and Class II trailer hitches are tested and rated with the specific ball mount for that hitch. Using a ball mount that is not recommended by the manufacturer will void the warranty. A...

  • Why is Draw-Tite Hitch a Class I and Curt Hitch is a Class II for a 2006 Pontiac Vibe
Hitch manufacturers determine the Class rating for a given hitch. The amount of hardware used to install a hitch isn't a factor. With that said Curt decided that hitch # C12234 will be fine to use with Class II accessories and gave it a Class II rating. Their hitch for the 2006 Pontiac Vibe GT models, # C12221, is also a Class II but it has been tested and rated for a higher tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity 250/2500 pounds. If you are using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR
Currently, there are 2 trailer hitches that will fit your 2005 Toyota Matrix XR. One Class-I # 24812 (Draw-Tite) and one Class-II # C12013 (Curt). With that said, they are all good products but I would most certainly go with the Class-II Curt hitch # C12013 because it will provide a higher tongue weight capacity of 250 pounds and Class-II will work with Class-1 and Class-2 accessories. As a result, giving you more options to choose from. With the Curt trailer hitch, if you plan on adding...

  • Difference Between Trailer Hitches for 2004 Pontiac Vibe and Pontiac Vibe GT
The only difference is that Curt has one trailer hitch that fits a 2004 Pontiac Vibe GT, part # C12221 and one trailer hitch for a 2004 Pontiac Vibe NON-GT, part # C12234 while the Draw-Tite # 24812 will fit both models. The Draw-Tite hitch is a Class I hitch which requires the use of Class I accessories so my recommendation is to go with the option from Curt, with the right hitch depending on if you have a GT or not. Both the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12221 (GT models) and # C12234 (non-GT...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2006 Toyota Matrix
All of the hitches for the 2006 Toyota Matrix XR are going to have about the same ground clearance. The best one in my opinion though is the Draw Tite part # 24812 as it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt hitch does. Since this hitch requires total removal of the rear fascia on the XR models that means the hitch would sit up the highest of the ones available.

  • 2003 Toyota Matrix XR Trailer Hitch Receiver Options
You have two options that will work with the 2003 Toyota Matrix XR models. Both are Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers, but there are some visual and capacity differences between the two. The Draw-Tite option # 24812 will be more visible than the other and will have less capacity. The Curt option # C12013 which I recommend is less visible and has more weight capacity. We have 1-1/4 inch hitches for your Matrix and a nice adapter for making your 2 inch bike rack work with 1-1/4 inch receivers. First you will need a hitch. The Draw-Tite, part # 24812, has a high customer rating and would work just fine for a bike rack and includes a pin and clip. The stop inside the hitch is not to force customers to purchase certain brand products, but to ensure that a Class II draw bar is not inserted into a Class I hitch. The Draw-Tite hitch you have, part # 24812, is a Class I hitch so if the welded stop inside is preventing the draw bar from going all the way in, you have a Class II drawbar. The recommended draw bar for this particular hitch is part # 3593. This draw bar will fit your hitch and will be at the proper height for trailers that...

If the weld nuts in your frame are corroded or clogged up with road grime, before resorting to chasing them with a tap, you can try cleaning them using some spray lubricant like WD-40 and a wire brush like the one on a battery terminal cleaner # DW00254.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2009 Toyota Matrix Type S Carrying a Bike Rack
For your 2009 Toyota Matrix Type S I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12228. This is a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a maximum tongue weight of 250 lbs to handle your bike rack. This hitch has a gloss black powder coat finish and a limited lifetime warranty. I would choose this hitch over the Draw-Tite # 24812 because of the higher tongue weight capacity. This means it can handle more weight from your bikes. It also does not have the same two bike restriction...

For the best capacity, I'd recommend the Curt Class II hitch, part # C12013 which has a 250lb tongue weight capacity and a 2500lb towing capacity.
