Today on our 2005 Pontiac Vibe, well be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24812. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is two inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 9-3/4 inches; this will assist you with selecting accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation, first before we can install the hitch well go ahead and clean out the weld nuts or attachment points, there will be a total of six attachment points, three on each side.
These will be weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacture, to clean them out well spray each one with some spray lubricant and then you use a half inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092 to thoroughly clean out the threads that have built up with rust, dust, dirt, and debride over time. Note in extreme situations it would be necessary to use a thread tap that can be borrowed or rented from your local auto parts store. Now that weve got our threads cleaned out well take one of the new 12 mm bolt and go ahead and thread it into the weld nut to make sure it goes nice and easily. Now lets go out and point out the hardware, again its a 12 mm bolt along with a half inch concial toothed washer; the teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Well take our hitch feed it up over the tailpipe on the driver side and bring the passenger side up into position securing it finger tight with the hardware.
Then well go ahead and repeat the same process on the driver side. Now with our hitch up well go ahead and tighten it down. Next well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions and now with our hitch secured and torqued to specifications that will complete the install of our Draw-Tite hitch part number 24812 on our 2005 Pontiac Vibe.
