Is the triming of the heat shield necessary on a 2008 Pontiac Vibe. I havent found a video of the installation on said year, and no comments Ive read mentioned triming of the heat shield, but the Curt add says it might be necessary.

The Curt hitch # 12221 is only a fit for the 2008 Pontiac Vibe GT models. Heat shield modification is only required for installation if the heat shield interferes with the hitch installation area.
If you do not have a GT model, then heat shield modification would not be required. I would recommend the Draw-Tite model # 24812, as this hitch does not require heat shield modification, and it includes a pin and clip, which would be required if you plan to tow a trailer. Ball mounts are sold separately.
