Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" - C12115

Average Customer Rating:  4.6 out of 5 stars   (154 Customer Reviews)

Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately.

I purchased this trailer hitch for my 2020 Chevrolet Impala. They said the Car is rated for 350lb tongue weight,
and 3500 lb tow capacity (same specs as the Trailer hitch).Watched a couple [online] videos before tackling the install. Backed the car up on car ramps and got started. Install was not difficult at all. I've used the hitch for pulling a small utility trailer, a bike rack for my bikes and even a 6'x12' V nose enclosed trailer. I definitely recommend this Trailer hitch.

Product arrived seemed promising watched all the install videos the issue came when installing it myself. I was installing on a Chevy Malibu 2015. The clearance for the exhaust is terrible. You will either have to replace the exhaust hanger to account for sag from being a few years old. After getting install there was still a rattle from the rear exhaust hanger touching. Wrapping a rubber hose around the hanger easily fixed this but still annoying. I have not actually used the hitch yet but as other stated it hangs pretty low. I’ll update the review after a couple uses.

2015 Chevrolet Malibu

The receiver is a perfect fit and install was quick and easy (even without a helper). Hardware and install instructions are exactly as described. We can now easily take our bicycles to some cool new places to ride.

In a little less than 1 hour we were finished with the install, approx. 5 min. was used to unpack the hitch. Once the muffler was removed it was very easy to install the rear bolts but make sure you replace the muffler before securing the back of the hitch to the frame.
The trailer hitch will be used to carry our bikes to various trails and to the beach.

Reasonably easy to install. Fit well. We use it to transport a wheel chair carrier and it worked great.

Excellent rack, the directions are pretty poor, but the etrailer videos makes up for that. Installed easily and works great with my Kuat rack.

Everything arrived as scheduled, well packaged. The hitch bolted on easily enough. etrailer followed up with me. Every time I have ordered from etrailer the customer service has been top shelf.

2018 Volvo Cross Country

Still holding strong. It held up real well for my cross country trip in December 2018 carrying two bikes from South Carolina to Nevada. That’s over 2100 miles through heavy rains & snow with absolutely no issues.

2015 Chevrolet Impala

My item was ordered and received in two days. KUDOS for the team that made it happen. It was just in time to have it ready for our weekend trip.

The installation was a breeze even though I didn't have a car lift at my disposal it still only took my son and myself an hour to install it.

See the finished photo below with the bike rack connected.

2015 Chevrolet Impala

I've had nothing but positive experiences with E-Trailer on previous purchases so on my new car I kept my business where it deserved to stay, shopping around locally I found eTrailer was actually the cheapest for the same hitch that others in my area wanted $300 for. Install was extremely simple, muffler would need to be lowered but luckily for my the factory mufflers were removed and replaced with flowmasters making install extremely simple, easy to install at home, will need an extra pair of hands to hold the hitch up till its bolted then smooth sailing, I installed this to tow my Jet Ski and already used it and didn't let me down. Highly recommended.

Haven't used it often but when I do I haul two electric bikes on it. It does a good job for that sits low on the rear of the car.

2018 Chevrolet Impala

I can't say enough good things about the experience with etrailer or the product they sold me. I got the best price and free shipping within 5 days from order date (MO to SC). They even fortified the box where pressure points would be in shipping to ensure a safe and quality product was delivered. Curt makes a great product and I hope to use both etrailer and Curt in the future.
the only recommendation I will make is, if they ask what vehicle this hitch will be installed on so they are not wasting shipping weight and steel on sending two brackets for different installations when connecting to the suspension mount.

This worked great on my 2018 Impala LT and the installation instructions were pretty clear as to which bracket to use for my installation .

I also bought the MAXTOW 1.25 to 2 inch adapter with a 4.5 inch rise for my accessory (Cargo Basket). While the actual tongue weight drops to about 100 pounds (factoring in the weight of the adapter, cargo basket and extension-physics) I only intend to store bulky light weight items on the basket and free up space in the trunk for beach trips!

This is the 3rd receiver I have purchased from Etrailer and they have all worked flawlessly.

Very well built. Instructions are easy to read and follow. It only took about a hour to install which is pretty good considering I am 72 years old & did it by myself. My only objection is the box says made in U.S.A. but the parts say made in China!!! That's why no 5 stars.

Fit was perfect; no problems. Looks good, not obtrusive. Did not cause problems with dragging over steep driveway entrances.

This hangs down about two and a half inch lower than it needs to. It scrapes on every single driveway.

I checked and we do not carry a hitch that installs higher off the ground then this one. This hitch is 11.25 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver.

2015 Chevrolet Impala

I ordered several parts to complete the towing set up. All parts came at the same time in just in a few days. Tracking was easy to follow and arrived on time . I followed video instruction that I found on web site. Pictures and instructions came with shipment, and was easy to follow. When installing the two bolts , one on each end , I added flat washers before applying the two nuts, to finish the job.

I have used this hitch many times, there are no broken welds, no broken bolts, I truly trust your product.
Gary - 01/19/2020

The trailer hitch and electrical kit I ordered arrived in a timely manner. The install was pretty easy and although I have not used it, seems to be a great buy. Thank you for the instructional videos!

It was a perfect fit and it functioned as it should. I am VERY satisfied with the quality and most importantly the lower price.
Brenda B - 05/11/2021

I installed this receiver on my new 2019 Impala to keep from putting gas cans in my new trunk, the installation was simple and works great . Just what I needed and would recommend it to others.

Order arrived even sooner than expected.
got it installed and ready to go.

2014 Chevrolet Malibu

overall hitch fit well. didn't think getting the front 2 bolts to start would be such an issue. be sure and try to start the front side bolts BEFORE you hold hitch up in place . we used the bolt removed from the exhaust hanger to clean out threads on passenger side, could not get this bolt to start before we threaded old bolt through. after we got those bolts to thread the rest went fairly well. just a note, on a 2014 malibu the back bracket is shown in wrong position. if you install it according to pics in instructions it will clunk on exhaust. the wiring looks easy until you try to run wire from back of car to front and the battery. wasn't aware of this until after i had product at home. may me easier to have it installed by a pro. Good Luck !!

2013 Buick LaCrosse

I purchased Curt Trailer Hitch C12115 for my 2013 Buick Lacrosse. I did research on etrailer website how to install on my car before buying. I checked if the pictures on line matched all connections on my car and ordered hitch. I received my order quick within 4 days. I don't have access to a lift so I had to jack car up and brace with jack stand. It took approx. 1 hr. because of bracing car properly. Installation is relatively simple. Hitch is 1/2" steel and I would recommend this product .

2010 Chevrolet Impala

So far everything was very smooth. I will let you know if it fits my Impala properly. If it fits well, I will give you 10 gold stars.

2017 Chevrolet Impala

I was recommended by a friend to look at your website for trailer and bicycle hitches. I was totally overwhelmed by the selection and what would be the appropriate selection. Meghan was extremely helpful in explaining the pros and cons of the hitches and helping be choose the correct bike rack with accessories. I placed the order and was totally surprised when four days later the packages were on my front porch. I have not had a chance to have them installed because it is still snowing/raining in our area of the country. I will share a picture when we begin our riding season. Thanks Meghan, for all of your help!

  • Is Trimming Required When Installing Curt Trailer Hitch # C12115 on a 2013 Cadillac XTS
According to my technical contact at Curt, cutting and/or trimming any of the bumper fascia on your 2013 Cadillac XTS is not required when installing Curt Trailer Hitch # C12115. I have the instructions attached for your reference. The modification that is required for installation is in step # 3. The rearward hole in the suspension cross needs to be enlarged to 1/2 inch. My contact also told me that although he does not have an exact measurement, the hitch sits basically flush under...

The installation bolts for the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12115 that you referenced do go through the frame rails. To get the bolts through the frame they will need to be fishwired into place. You would not need access anything from the trunk of your 2011 Buick LaCrosse. I attached an FAQ video on fishwiring for you to check out. I also attached a copy of the installation sheet for this hitch for you to check out.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and they told me that with the mid-year frame change on the 2013 Buick Lacrosse, they are including both brackets with the # C12115 hitch. If you decide to order this hitch, when you receive it please check the box and it should have both brackets. • Recommended Towing Weight Capacity for a 2012 Buick Lacrosse
I can clarify all this for you. The hitch is rated to tow 3,500 lbs. and this towing capacity is issued by the manufacture of the hitch. You are going to be limited by your weakest link, which is going to be your vehicle's frame. I went ahead and I checked the owner's manual for your 2012 Buick Lacrosse and it states that with a V6 engine you can tow up to 1,000lbs. but that could also be too heavy. The owner's manual states: maximum trailer weight is calculated assuming only the driver...

He said it is an interesting configuration from most other hitches and this is the order it will go. • Why Does Trailer Hitch Have Higher Towing Capacities than Vehicle Towing Capacity
Trailer hitches are first designed for a vehicle and then tested for a weight capacity independent of the vehicle they are designed for. This is why you'll see hitches for lighter duty vehicles with higher capacities than the vehicle. I admit it is a bit confusing but what it gives you is a hitch like the Curt part # C12115 that has more weight capacity than needed for the vehicle it is designed for like the 2015 Chevy Malibu. With a towing capacity you always have to go with the lowest...

  • Draw Tite Or Curt Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Malibu LTZ
That's a really good question, but the answer is basically just that the Curt hitch and Draw Tite are made by two separate companies who have their own rating systems and safety precautions.
