You should note that a towing setup is only as strong as its weakest component.   I spoke with my contact at Curt. There have been only 2 or 3 cases where customers with the same vehicle have found that the plate in question is welded on. Infiniti seems to have welded only some models but not all. The solution that other customers have come up with is to use a pry bar to push that panel back and forth to break the welds.
