You don’t have to cut into any factory wiring to get trailer lights working. The Curt T-Connector plugs into existing connections behind the trim panels on each side of the rear cargo area. Once the harness is in place, running one hot lead wire up to the battery powers the included converter, protecting the vehicle’s circuits while giving you a 4-way flat connector ready for towing.
Some vehicles can’t handle the extra draw from trailer lights, and splicing into those systems can blow fuses or damage wiring. This harness solves that with a powered converter that draws power directly from the battery instead. That setup keeps the vehicle’s wiring isolated and prevents shorts or overloads that can happen with direct-tap connections.
The 4-pole lead is long enough to reach a hitch-mounted bracket, but many users keep it coiled inside the cargo area when not in use. The foam weather stripping on the hatch seals around the wire without crushing it, keeping moisture, salt, and grime away. Storing the connector inside helps prevent corrosion and lighting issues down the road.
This harness sends clean power through its converter so it works with both incandescent and LED trailer lights. A powered taillight converter will draw its power from a direct connection to the vehicle battery, but will gain its switching information via its connection to the vehicles taillight harness or tow package connector. Years ago, taillight circuits in vehicles used higher gauge wire and had enough capacity to handle the draw of the vehicle taillights as well as those of a trailer. Now that the price of copper has gone through the roof and vehicle manufacturers try to save all the weight they can, the taillight circuits use smaller gauge wire that can handle the load from the vehicle taillights, but not much else. Drawing the power directly from the battery also serves to isolate the tow vehicles sensitive electronics from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. Connecting the converters power feed anywhere other than the battery or where the converters manufacturer recommends can leave your vehicles electrical system exposed to possible damage.

Still in package. Funds delay my install and plan is have a Trailer Co. install for me. Feel I can do connections in rear but wire to battery cant do. Also want them to put on the panel for plug-in. I dont care to have plug hanging under bumper. In time hopefully will get a quote for its install.

This harness does store inside the cargo area until you are ready to use. Some people drill a hole in the trunk of their vehicle to fish the wire through then hardwire it back together with butt connections. If you attempt this be sure to use a grommet to keep fumes and the elements out of your vehicle. If you do not want to do that, here is the wiring harness that installs outside the vehicle: item # HM11143645.

Bought for my 2014 Nissan Rogue fit perfect and went on easy..then bought 2017 Rogue transfered to new car and again fit perfect
