This adjustable ball mount has a maximum capacity of 14,000 lbs, making it ideal for heavy-duty towing. The steel construction is strong enough to handle large trailers and heavy cargo, and the matte powder coat finish will protect the ball mount from rust and corrosion, even after repeated use. The BulletProof Hitches adjustable ball mount gives you the strength you need to tow your big loads. And its durable, long-lasting construction can stand the test of time.

Heavy-Duty Construction

Because of its sturdy steel construction, this BulletProof Hitches adjustable ball mount can handle loads up to 14,000 lbs, making it perfect for heavy-duty towing jobs.

MD256 channel

The adjustable channel is made of 5/16" thick, laser-cut steel plates. These steel plates can handle high capacities without bending. And because of the laser cutting, the channel plates have consistently sized pin holes, so you can easily remove or reposition the hitch ball platform.

MD256 gusset

A 1/2" thick steel gusset is welded between the shank and the channel, bracing the mount and keeping the channel from bending, even at the maximum drop or rise.

bulletproof 2.5 medium shank

The steel shank easily slides into and out of your hitch receiver. And with no sharp edges on the shank, the powder coating is less likely to chip and peel.

bulletproof hitches ball platform

Each adjustable mount includes a 2-ball platform, which fits in the adjustable channel. The 2 hitch balls are welded onto the solid steel platform for maximum strength and stability.

bulletproof hitches pins and clips

Finally, the pins and clips included with the ball mount are made of heat-treated steel to withstand the heavy weight from your load. And the zinc finish provides corrosion resistance.

Setting Up the BulletProof Ball Mount

To set up this BulletProof Hitches adjustable ball mount, insert the 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" shank into your hitch's receiver. Slide the 2-ball platform into the adjustable channel, then use the included pins and clips to secure the platform at the height you need. If you need to switch hitch balls, just remove the pins and clips, flip the ball platform over, and reinsert the pins and clips to secure the balls in place. It's that easy.

BulletProof Ball Mount Accessories

This BulletProof Hitches adjustable ball mount is compatible with a wide variety of accessories (sold separately). Instead of using the included ball to tow, you can install a weight distribution shank (358WEIGHTDIST) in the channel of the mount to attach your weight distribution system. Add a clevis (358CLEVIS) or shackle attachment (358EDSA) for off-road or recovery operations. Or simply add a hitch step (358STEP) to easily access your truck bed.

Video Transcript for BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitch Review MD256

Hi, everyone, Aidan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this adjustable ball mount from BulletProof Hitches. This is designed to work with 2 1/2 inch hitches, and it gives you a pretty sizable rise and drop. To switch between the two, you'll just pull it out of the hitch completely and reinsert it upside down. But for most people looking to get into some good towing, this is going to be a great option. It is their medium-duty series, so not the heaviest weight capacity out there, but if you don't need a super heavy capacity, then this can be a good fit.

Let's check it out. Now, you've got two ball sizes to choose from. The 2 5/16 up top will give you a 14,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, that's how much weight it can pull. And the two inch ball on the bottom here is going to give you a 10,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Regardless of which one you use, you're gonna have a maximum tongue weight of 2,000 pounds, that's the maximum downward pressure on the end of the ball mount here.

Now, just keep that in mind as you're loading this up and seeing if it's gonna work with your truck and trailer combination. Like I said, there are more heavy-duty versions of this, so if you're using your 2 1/2 inch hitch to tow a heavier trailer, then there's plenty of options on our site from BulletProof Hitches that you can check out. Now, the big benefit here is obviously that adjustment though, and that's probably why you're checking this out. If you've got multiple trailers, this is a great way to quickly adjust between them and always be towing level. So that's how you would get it to a lower position.

Or if you needed to, you could flip the whole platform around to swap to a different ball size. So if we switch from one trailer to another very frequently, then this is how we make sure that we've always got the right ball for our coupler, but also that we're always towing level. Now, in its maximum drop configuration like you see here, you are gonna be getting 8 1/4 inches of drop. If we we're to flip this all around, we would get a maximum rise of 8 1/2 inches. Keep that in mind as you're looking at this to see if it works with you.

And BulletProof Hitches does recommend 19 to 21 inches of ground clearance. They're getting that measurement from the ground to the bottom inside edge of the receiver tube. So that can help you know if this is gonna be a little bit too much and come too close to the ground for you or not. Now, these pins and clips that we saw for the platform are included, but they're not locking, so you can choose to upgrade them to locking pins if you like. And this does not come with a hitch pin and clip, so you will need to provide that yourself. And I would always recommend upgrading to a locking hitch pin, just because it's gonna keep the whole thing secure. And if you pair that with locking pins for the platform, then everything is locked down tight, so no one can mess with it when you're not around. And with all that undone, we can slide it out and flip it over to the rise position. Now, the advantage to going with the medium-duty option here is that even though it's a bigger ball mount with a really large rise and drop, it's got a hollow shank. So it makes it a little bit more lightweight and easy to manage. Don't get me wrong, it's still a heavy ball mount, but it's something to consider if you don't need all of the weight capacity for the heavy-duty options. This is a great way to just save yourself a little bit when you're switching it out or taking it in and out of the hitch. Now, some measurements to look out for here are gonna be from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball here where your coupler will actually be when it hooks up is gonna be 11 inches. That'll let you know what kind of distance we're working with between our truck and trailer and if you need more. And then from that same point, at the hitch pin hole to the closest point at this reinforcement gusset here is 3 1/2 inches. That'll let you know if you've got clearance with your hitch or not and how close this plate is going to come. Now, it's important to note though that with those measurements, we are going from the innermost hitch pin hole. There are two, and they're spaced an inch and a half apart. If we needed the extra clearance, we'd use this outside edge and gain an extra inch and a half of clearance. And one of the reasons I like these BulletProof Hitches isn't just because it's a really functional ball mount that's well constructed, but it's because there's accessories here. This channel can mount a variety of different accessories that they offer and that we have here in etrailer, such as a step, maybe a pintle lock to make this compatible with a lunette ring trailer, or one of the personal favorites of mine is the receiver tube. This is something that we actually just got down in the shop, and for the 2 1/2 inch version here, I think this is a great option, because it'll just bolt into or pin into the channel here and give you a two inch receiver tube. Two inch receiver tubes are gonna be a lot more compatible with things like cargo carriers and bike racks, other hitch-mounted accessories. So for your truck with a 2 1/2 inch hitch, if you sometimes carry a bike rack and go biking with the family, you can use this. And then when you're ready to tow again and hook up to your heavy trailers, the ball mount is still in your hitch ready to go, ready to tow for next time. So stuff like this is really nice to have, because you can kinda kit this out to fit your lifestyle and your needs, and it's always ready to go. So if you don't wanna have to take your ball mount out of the hitch, just depending on the activity you're doing, you don't have to. But that's all there is to it. If you've got a slightly taller truck that needs this bigger drop size, but you don't need the extra weight capacity that comes with the more heavy-duty options, then this is gonna be a great fit. Of course, there's other drop configurations, other hitch sizes, and other weight capacities, so you can find the right one for you if you need it. But this has just been our look at this version of the BulletProof Hitches ball mount for 2 1/2 inch hitches. Thanks for watching.

Awesome product and great price. This Bulletproof hitch is definitely well built. I see no problems ahead with this hitch.

by:

I own several adjustable 2-1/2" hitches and like this one a lot. It isn't terribly heavy for being steel and is very easy to adjust. I like the pins versus the key-operated mechanism on my aluminum adjustable hitch. Works great with my Chevy 2500 and various trailers and boats from 5000 to 14000 lbs.

The bulletproof hitch is a really good unit. I have used it now for over two months to pull a sixteen foot cargo trailer using the larger ball. Towed locally and from northern NY to Florida and back, so I'd say at least 5,000 miles. I like the easy to adjust height in order to tow the trailer level. It doesn't seem to cause any clunking because of movement - if that makes sense. I did clear-coat the unit to help it stay looking decent for the long-term and that seems to be working so far. The main piece stays locked in the truck receiver all the time while I remove the double-ball unit when not in use. I would buy this unit again in a heartbeat.

My Opinion Hasnt Changed, the hitch is Great! Main use now is a center console and a pontoon boat. Both boats are twenty footers. The hitch is over-kill for the load, but the variable height capability of the hitch allows for easier launches at the ramp. We use different ramps and each ramp has a different angle into the water.

by:

I really love my hitch. Just the weight of it is impressive, it is a substantial hitch and has not let me down at all. I leave it on the truck all the time even when not needed for towing just in case someone isn't paying attention, cause it is also a great rear end collision extra "bumper".

by:

Build quality is obvious on this absolute unit of a drop hitch. Solidly built and looks great, exceeding my expectations for the towing I do.

by:

It's heavy! Easy to use and durable, no complaints here.

by:

Made in USA. Heavy Duty Build. I just wish the tolerances were tighter, like on the height adjustment pins, they are loose which makes a lot of thumping, They do not need to be that sloppy. I will say, this hitch is holding up well. The Ball fell off the "Fastway Flash" hitch I had before, where the ball broke out of the casting.
And, this hitch is not nearly heavy as the "Fastway Flash" hitch.

by:

Fits perfectly on 21 Ford F-250 Tremor. Still plenty of clearance and low enough for any trailer coupler. Using with the WDH adapter

by:

Solidly built! Great product! Made in the USA.

by:

I’m glad I have diesel just to pull this hitch. This is what I call well built and sturdy. Nothing flimsy or cheap about it. Solid and I have complete confidence regardless of what I’m pulling with it. Great product and American made quality.

  • What is the Rise/Drop on BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitch MD256
The BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Hitch # MD256 has an 8-1/4" drop and 8-1/2" rise. BulletProof Hitches does not follow the standard measurement which is where the confusion is coming from. Rise is the distance from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform when the ball mount is oriented for greater coupler height. Drop is the distance from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform when the ball mount is oriented for lower coupler height. So the 8" measurement...

  • Is There Any Play In BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount # MD256 Which Would Cause Wiggle or Rattle?
The BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount # MD256 is going to allow for play inside the receiver as this ensures the hitch does not get seized in receiver tube due to moisture and corrosion. I recommend checking out the Solid-Tow Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # DTSTBM6825-2S. This ball mount has built in anti-rattle for both the hitch tube and the vertical adjustment. This will prevent the rattle you get with other ball mounts.
