Time-Delayed Braking

What is time-delayed braking

The Pro Series Pilot comes equipped with time-delayed braking. Every time you apply the brakes in your vehicle, a signal is sent - via the brake switch - to the Pilot. The controller then sends power out to your trailer brakes to activate them with an intensity set by you, at a rate determined by you. The amount of braking power (output) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. To determine which levels are best for your application, test your towing setup and choose what feels right.

Built-In Controls for Adjustable Power

Pro Series Pilot Controls and Components

Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes. Once you've set up the brake controller the first time, you shouldn't need to adjust the settings until the trailer load changes, you switch trailers, or road conditions change. Use the thumbwheel on the side to change the braking output level. The output setting will appear as a number on the digital display, with a higher number indicating higher braking power.

Manual Override

The Pro Series Pilot keeps the manual override within easy reach on the front of the module, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. Push the slide-bar to activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Quick, Simple Installation

Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and manual override. The Pilot is especially flexible; its microprocessor allows the controller to even be mounted upside down, and it will still give you a readable display. The Pilot can go wherever you need it. Plus, the included wiring adapter eases installation overall. The custom connector end plugs into the port on your vehicle and the other end plugs into the controller.

Installation Accessories

You can use etrailer's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Pro Series Pilot Trailer Brake Controller: The Breakdown

Today, we're going to be taking a look at part number 80550. This is the Pilot 2-6 Brake Time Delayed Electronic Brake Controller from Pro Series. It's going to work for 2-6 brakes, which is going to be up to 3 brake axles. One of the main features I want to show you is the large, easy to read dual-digital disk play. I have it connected to our power source. That way, you can just get a really quick look at how easy that display is to see.

Nice, quick response time too. Please keep in mind that this installer must be installed with a 12 volt negative ground system. It's going to provide flexible mounting options and can be installed in any direction. It's got a microprocessor that's going to allow the controller to be mounted upside down and still have a readable display. It's got a feature protection against short circuit or loss of ground. A standard mounting bracket is included as well as the hardware needed to get it attached.

That's going to go on the side here towards the back of the controller. It's got the mounting slots in there and then you can see the different options that you have as far as a versatile mount. This inaudible 00:01:12 right here is going to be the ball mount interface. It's an optional mounting ball pivot kit that we sell that works with this. It's sold separately. You can find that with part number 5298.

A pulse preventer is also recommended. That's available and sold separately with part number 5501. The wheel on this side of the controller is designed to control and adjust the breaking power. This right here is going to be the manual override or the manual slide knob. The wiring system is a simple plug and play feature that allows for easy and quick connection and disconnection. This is designed for use with electric brakes.

It's going to give us an overall width of 3 1/2 inches, overall length of 4 3/4 of an inch, and then an overall height of about 1 9/16ths of an inch. It's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. If a custom break wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required: Either a 20 amp circuit breaker for 2-4 brake applications or a 30 amp circuit breaker for 6-8 brake applications. When it comes to the wiring on this system, your white wire is going to be your ground. Your black is going to be for the positive battery. Your red is going to be for the cold side of the stop light switch, and then your blue wire is going to be for the brake output to the trailer. That's going to do it for our review of part number 80550. This is the Pilot 2-6 Brake Time Delayed Electronic Brake Controller from Pro Series. .

good value but the swivel mount being optional should be made more clear

by:

It does fit a berkshire 2021 37A xl on the freightliner cx chassis and is plug and play with the brake controller and wire harness I purchased

by:

This is truly a plug and go on my 2015 Forest River Berkshire 400ql on the left side is the plug coming off the harness and you will need to remove the cover on the plug and the harness will plug right in the adapter is a perfect fit and plug right in to the controller took me about 10 min to install the blue plug end is what your looking for about 4” long of the harness tight fit but not to hard

by:

Came in a day early! Exactly as described. It was suggested by other from a Forum and they were right. Plugged right in and easy to mount. I far from home and the person from etrailer walked through order and assured me I would get it drop at the park I was staying at. He was right and made it a day early. All tuned and ready to pull

by:

Super easy to install

Great deal

easy to use brake box

OEM-quality product. Wires, plastic connectors, etc. seem identical to factory harness. Amy E. at eTrailer was great in helping me find the appropriate harness for my application. I wasn't sure if they'd be able to look it up so easily, but their systems are excellent - I told her I had a 2014 Fleetwood Discovery Class A diesel pusher, and she pulled up this p/n immediately. I technically could have used what I already had from prior owner, but I didn't like the butt-splices from the factory pigtail to the existing brake controller pigtail. For $15, it made sense to me to eliminate those splices and be "full factory." I used my terminal pin removal tool to remove 2 currently-unused stubs (key-on, and illumination?) from factory pigtail and transferred them to this new harness. That way, I have direct access to these OEM-supplied wires for any future accessories that may need them.

by:

Great product

by:

Installed in 2013 Tiffin 38 RED Freightliner. Was as easy as you said, just plugged in with harness #3027-P.

by:

This wiring harness adapter was used to connect to my motorhome - Freightliner chassis wiring harness connector and my Tekonsha brake controller with a GM connector. It was a plug together and go! No cutting wires or personal adaption needed!!!!

by:

I am happy. Arrived as described and fits like OEM would.

by:

Very knowledgeable staff every time I’ve ordered parts very kind and helpful

by:

Have had this cable and Tekonsha controller in our RV for over a year. We put on roughly 10,000miles towing an enclosed trailer. This cable made the installation of the brake controller a breeze. I think the entire install took less than ten minutes.

by:

Plug adapter works great and easy to hook up plug and play as they say.

by:

We were attending the rally in Sturgis SD and were trying to add a brake controller to our RV before leaving thru the mountains again. We determined the right wiring harness, and were recommended by Tekonsha to contact etrailer for the harness. I spoke with Stacey on the phone and explained the urgency of our need for this part. She made sure it got done ASAP and it actually arrived a day early! We had the controller installed and ready to go right on schedule.

Can't say enough about the service we received. Thanks etrailer and Stacey!!!

by:

I clicked on the button to attach to the factory connector (with Factory Tow Package) on the RV, and it added an adapter to the order. I did not see in the installation notes that you still needed to buy a second adapter to actually make it work. I would think that if you were going to create a package that connects to the factory tow package it would have everything you need. Based on the way this is built I would bet that there is no single adapter from Tekonsha that would function without a second adapter. Seems like a marketing strategy to get more money out of people. For me I paid about xx dollars for a x dollar connector and a few feet of wire, and I still had to do my own wiring. I would not recommend anyone to buy the adapter, it is truly a waste of money and will not do what you expect. Also if you decide to buy both adapters to make it work you are paying about $xx for about $xx in parts, about %xx of the cost of the unit just for a wire with connectors.

by:

Product was as described, well made, fit well and include more than enough wire length. NOTE: CHECK VEHICLE WIRING ... In my case the chassis wire connector was not wired properly. It did not match the chassis manufacturer's wiring diagram and sent the power to the wrong pin-out. Checking saved the controller.

by:

This adapter works great! Easy! Anyone could hook it up! The Tekonsha controller works great too! I pull a 24’ inclosed trailer with my race car in it, weighs 8,200 pounds behind a 32’ Winnebago Journey and couldn’t be happier! Thanks

I called several camper sells trying to found a brake control for my motorhome, Freightliner chassis, had no luck. Called etrailer and they knew exactly what I needed, very professional.

by:

The product was an adaptor to connect a trailer controller to my Winnebago Itasca motorhome. It fit perfectly and was delivered very quickly. I have used etraier in the past and continue to be satisfied with their products and service.

Hello Patrick, Between the 2 brake controllers that you mentioned I would go with the the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The main reason is because the Pro Series Pilot # 80550 is time delayed, so there will be a delay from the time that you hit your brakes in your GMC for the brakes to be applied on the trailer. • Installing a Hopkins Brake Controller in a Class A 2015 Winnebago Forza 34T on Freightliner Chassis
If your 2015 Winnebago Forza 34T DP has a factory trailer connector, then the adapter plugs into the 6-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column. There is not a harness for your Hopkins brake controller, so I recommend the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3027-P and then cut and splice matching colors and functions. If you don't have a factory trailer connector, then you will...

  • Installing a Brake Controller on a 2006 Coachmen Cross Country 351DS Motorhome
The brake controller that I recommend using is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is one of our most popular brake controllers. The reason being that it is very easy to use, it doesn't require you to remember codes, the LCD screen make navigating different options very easy, plus it allows you to store settings if you have different towing applications. To install this on your 2006 Coachmen Cross Country 351DS (which is on a Freightliner XC chassis) you can use the plug-in adapter part...

  • Using an Electric Brake Controller with the Air Brakes of a 2017 Freightliner XC-Series
There are options to utilize the air brakes on your 2017 Freightliner XC-Series to control electric brakes like the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller, part # HA100400C. However, we mostly recommend just using an electric brake controller since they tie into the stop light switch of the tow vehicle, making it irrelevant what kind of brakes it has. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller w/ Bluetooth, part # TK94FR. It has a very simply method of...

  • Recommended Brake Controller For A 2017 Coachman Sportscoach 407FW Motorhome Freightliner XC Chassis
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 for your 2017 Coachmen Sportscoach 407FW. This will connect to the factory wiring port on the left side of the steering column with a Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P. I have included a picture for you to reference the plug location.

  • Prodigy Trailer Brake Controller for 2014 Thor Palazzo Motorhome
Since your motorhome is built on the XC chassis that has a factory 7-way setup, with the blue brake circuit wire already run for you, I suggest the Prodigy P3 Proportional Brake Controller # 90195 along with the mating wiring adapter harness # 3027-P. The harness allows quick installation at the port under the dash. You will want to find the square connector that will mate with the one in the photo, which is on one end of the adapter.

  • Parts Needed To Install Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty On 2022 Entegrea Accolade Super C Freightliner S2RV
Rather than use the connector that was supplied from Freightliner, you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P that will connect to your Freightliner connector behind the steering post of your 2022 Entegra Accolade. Then the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness # 331-TPH-017 will allow you to connect to the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This will give you a plug and play setup with no need to splice any wiring.

  • Will Tekonsha Brake Controller Wiring Harness 3027-P Fit a 2014 Freightliner XCS Chassis
I checked with Tenkonsha and they only show brake controller wiring harness # 3027-P as a fit for the 2004 to 2016 Freightliner SL and XC models. It is possible that they just haven't been able to test it on an XCS chassis yet. Worse case scenario is that the plug will not match what is on the XCS so you would have to hardwire it in. On the harness the white wire is the ground, black is power in, red is input from the brake switch, and blue is output to the trailer brakes.

  • Installing The Roadmaster Braking Monitor Using The Brake Controller Port 2020 Fleetwood Pace Arrow
There isn't a guide out there that will tell us where the port is located but it generally is right under the dash near the steering column. I've attached a picture of a 2017 Pace Arrow where we were provided with a picture of where it was located to help you. The Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System - Proportional Item # HM39524 I recommended for flat towing your Jeep is a wireless system so it wouldn't communicate with the Roadmaster 2nd Motorhome Monitor/Alarm...

  • How to Connect Prodigy P3 Wiring to a Renegade Valencia RV on Freightliner S2RV Chassis
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P you referenced is designed for some of the older motorhome models so it doesn't surprise me that the plug doesn't match. With that being said, I'm not sure if you've found the correct wiring connector on your Freightliner S2RV Chassis either, since electric brake controllers only connect to 4 functions. We currently don't have a plug we know that matches your motorhome so I recommend using the universal pigtail that came with your P3 # 90195,...

  • Does Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter 3027-P Fit 2016 Freightliner XC Series
Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3027-P is indeed a confirmed fit on the 2016 Freightliner XC Series chassis on which your Tiffin Phaeton is built. I checked with my technical contact at Tekonsha who confirmed it will work for you to install a Tekonsha trailer brake controller such as the excellent Prodigy P3 # 90195 or the similar P2 # 90885 proportional brake controllers.

  • Brake Controller Adapter for Tekonsha Prodigy P2 on 2019 Thor Palazzo with Freightliner XC-S Chassis
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3027-P or 3027 are actually the same but they are only confirmed to fit 2004 - 2016 Freightliner, XC Chassis. To install your Prodigy P2 # 90885 you'll need to splice the connections using a universal pigtail like # 7894 since there isn't a plug and play connector option for the 2017 or newer Freighliners. Another option would be to use the Curt Echo brake controller # C51180, instead. This mobile brake controller does not require you to test or splice...

  • Recommended Brake Controller and Plug In Adapter for a 2005 National RV Tropical T350 Motorhome
Yes, we do have a way to plug in a Redarc Brake Controller like item # RED24FR or item # RED44FR to the factory port on your motorhome's Freightliner XC Chassis. Since your motorhome's older you will need to use two separate connectors. The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers item # 3027-P and the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness item # 331-TPH-017. These two harnesses combined will give you a plug and play installation.

  • Which Trailer Brake Controller Can I Install in a 2013 Tiffin Allegro Red Class A Motorhome
As long as your 2013 Tiffin Allegro Red did not come with a factory towing package, you can use the Curt Spectrum # C51170 by hard-wiring into the coach. You will need an additional wiring plug to help ease installation, which is part # C51515, as well as some heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-5 to make your connections cleanly. If you've got the factory towing package, which puts a plug and play harness in the cabin of the vehicle, you will not be able to use the Spectrum . Instead,...
