There are options to utilize the air brakes on your 2017 Freightliner XC-Series to control electric brakes like the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller, part # HA100400C.
However, we mostly recommend just using an electric brake controller since they tie into the stop light switch of the tow vehicle, making it irrelevant what kind of brakes it has.
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller w/ Bluetooth, part # TK94FR. It has a very simply method of installation since the bulk of the controller actually attaches to the trailer rather than being mounted within your Freightliner's cab. It connects to a small controller in the cab plugged into your cigarette lighter port via bluetooth. This way, you don't need to worry about the harness like the # 3027-P (which isn't compatible with your vehicle anyway). I've linked to a video review of the RF for you to look at.
Of course, for any brake controller, you will need a 7-way for the trailer to connect to. If you don't have that, you can use part # ETBC7 to get one.
