Video Transcript for Checking Out the Front/Center/Rear Hanger for Double-Eye Springs

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the front, center, or rear hanger, for double-eye springs. This hanger can be used as a front hanger on single axle applications, and it can be used as a front, center, or rear hanger, on tandem or triple axle applications. It's going to fit 1 3/4" wide double-eye springs with 9/16" diameter eyes. It does work with a 9/16" diameter bolt, hardware sold separately. The unit's made from a sturdy steel construction. It measures around 3/16" thick.

It is a weld-on application, so this will weld directly to the trailer frame. The height measurement for a hanger is taken from the center of the mount hold to the top of the hanger. The height for this particular one is going to give us a measurement of about 4 1/4". The overall length, looking at about 3". External width is about 2 5/6" to 2 3/8".

Internal width, it's going to measure about 1 7/8 to 1 15/16", and then the overall height of the unit, that's going to measure about 4 7/8" tall. Then the holes on the unit, again, have that diameter of 9/16". That's going to do it for today's look at the front, center, or rear hanger, for double-eye springs.

  • How to Get Clearance for Slipper Spring Compressing on Top of Wheel Well
To answer your first question a double-eye spring would not compress less than your current 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End # e33SR and I do not recommend going with a higher-rated spring than what your trailer is rated for as that will make your ride very stiff and unpleasant. The only real options you have to get more clearance are to raise the fender if you can or add one that has more height (I have linked our selection of fenders for you to check out) or to cut off your current...

  • Recommended X-Factor Crossmembers
Hey David welcome back! I am not sure what you mean by angled pieces that get welded to the hanger. We have two types of X-Factor Crossmembers and one of them attaches directly to your frame hangers with included brackets and hardware. The MORryde X-Factor Crossmember item # MR33WR attach to standard frame hangers that look like item # E4139. This is most likely what you need. The MORryde X-Factor Crossmember item # MR99ZR works with LRE, RE, or TRE Leaf Spring Suspension. I have linked...

  • What is Bolt Hole Diameter for Suspension Hanger # E4139
The standard diameter for trailer leaf spring bolts is 9/16 inch which is why the part # E4139 and all similar options have this hole size. We don't have anything with a smaller diameter but my guess is what you have is actually 9/16 inch.

  • Can Taller Trailer Suspension Equalizer Increase Trailer's Ride Height
You could do that, but in order to get the height increase, you'll also need to go with taller front and rear spring hangers. For instance, if your current equalizers are 2 inches high, and you switch to the # TREQ310 equalizer which would add two inches, you'd also need a 2 inch taller spring hanger, such as # E4139. If you don't raise the height all the way across the board, the trailer could handle poorly and be more susceptible to sway. If the trailer has a 2-3/8 or a 3 inch diameter...

  • Lift Kit Adding 2" For 1-3/4" Square Axle 5x8 Trailer.
With square axles, neither of our over/under kits will be a fit to raise the height of the trailer so another option is to use longer hangers for the leaf springs. You will just want to confirm the hangar height. You may be able to use a hanger like part # E4139. This hanger is designed for double-eye springs and is 4-1/4 inches tall. The old hangers will need to be cut off and the replacement hangers welded on by a professional.

  • How To Fix Tires Hitting Fenders After Installing New Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizers
To get your Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizer lower so the tires on your 2-17 Nitro Z19 boat trailer are not hitting the fenders I recommend having taller center hangers installed. Base on the pictures you provided it looks like your current hangers are pretty short. You will want to measure from the frame to the center of the hole in the hanger, and then use one of the options mentioned below as a replacement to get the clearance back. The available options are the 3-1/4" tall # 28-5, 3-5/8"...

  • Can Equa-Flex Equalizers Add Height
Possibly a bit; it just depends on the height of your current equalizers. The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers - Double Eye Springs - Tandem Axle - 6K to 8K # LC279688 measure 4 inches tall from bottom to top bolt hole, so if you use the same shackle straps and that is quite a bit taller than your equalizer you will add some height. It won't be much though, so if you don't want to add an over/under kit then the next best thing to do is to replace your hangers with taller ones, which can...

  • Recommendations for Raising Trailer to Add Clearance for Larger Wheels
I do have a few possible options for giving your 2004 Toy Hauler some extra clearance for your larger 29-1/4 inch tires. Replacing the Double-Eye Springs and upgrading to a 5 leaf or 6 leaf spring system will provide very minimal rise on your trailer and may not even be noticeable, especially when the trailer is loaded. Additionally, installing overrated springs will create a rough ride as you mentioned but also put extra stress on different components of your trailer when traveling on...

  • How To Lift Trailer with 3-1/2 Diameter 8k Axle With Center Point Suspension Already Installed
You can lift your 2009 Mobile Suites 5th Wheel trailer, but since you have 8000-lbs Dexter Axles that are 3-1/2" diameter, the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 will not work since they are only designed for 3" diameter axles. It's also worth noting that the Lippert Components Center Point Suspension Upgrade # LC1565391 already raises your trailer approximately 2". You could add the Tandem Axle Lift Kit # RR23QX which will add approximately 2-1/4" of lift to...

  • What is the Inside Width of Trailer Leaf Spring Hanger E4139
If the outside width of hanger # E4139 is 2-5/16 inches and the metal thickness is 3/16 of an inch then you would take 2-5/16 and subtract 3/16, and then subtract another 3/16, to get 1-15/16 inches. It is meant to be used with leaf springs that are 1-3/4 inches wide. I made a picture showing these measurements for you.

  • Can the Center Spring Hanger Be Taller Than Front and Rear Spring Hangers On Magic Tilt Trailer
It is possible to have a center spring hanger that will be longer than the front and rear hangers. For an example I would have the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs, part # APT3HD. This kit has 2-1/2 inch tall front and rear hangers and a 5-7/16 inch tall center hanger. A longer center spring hanger is normally used in conjunction with an equalizer. The equalizers are designed to transfer the load from one axle to another when the trailer goes over a bump. • Redline Hangers for Raising the Height of 5th Wheel Camper
The tallest spring hangers we have in a 9/16 eye diameter are the Redline item # E4139 you were looking at. If you want to go to the 5 7/16 inch hanger you were referencing you will need to upgrade to 3/4 eye diameter leaf springs. If you decide to upgrade your leaf springs to use the taller hanger please email me and I would be happy to make a recommendation.

  • Will Using Longer Shackle Straps On My Trailer Suspension Affect The Amount Of Travel?
By using longer shackle straps it will have an affect on your suspension. For a tandem or triple axle trailer it will move the leaf spring closer to the frame and may cause the leaf spring to contact the frame as the suspension articulates. On a Single axle trailer the larger straps will change the amount of articulation that the spring has. This can have an adverse affect on the suspension components as they do not have a shock to dampen the suspension as it is traveling farther on...

  • Increasing Clearance Between Frame and Axle on a Boat Trailer
An unloaded trailer should have between 2 and 2-1/2 inches of clearance between the frame and the axle. Typically trailer leaf springs have a maximum deflection of 1-1/2 inches. First, I recommend checking your leaf springs. If they have some age on them, they may have flattened out and need to be replaced. If you find that your springs are still in good condition, there are a few other routes you could take to give yourself more clearance between the frame and axle. If the axle on your...

  • Will Increasing The Air Presure In Air Springs On Lippert Center Point Increase Suspension Lift?
The 2" gained in trailer height comes from the height of the Lippert Center Point # LC1565391 itself. Increasing the air pressure will not gain any significant height as the air spring uses a lever type design which only moves the lower mount a small amount. Also as the spring was designed for a 5" width between the plates when installed the springs themselves will not extend much beyond that point. If you wish for more height you might consider installing some taller Hangers # E4139....

  • How To Deal With Axle U-Bolts Making Contact With The Frame Of A Trailer
One thing I recommend doing right off the bat is adding the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00. This will flip the axle to under the springs and will solve the issue of the U-Bolts making contact with the frame of your trailer. As to the shackles flipping, I think it may actually be a center hanger height issue along with the shackle straps being a little short. • Is There Supposed to be Play Between Hangers and Leaf Springs
There has to be a bit of play between the leaf spring bushings and the hangers so that the suspension components can move freely as needed. If you torqued down the bolt to the point the hanger flexed in and prevented movement you'd have a very harsh ride quality since the suspension would be ineffective.

  • Suspension Height on 5th Wheel Trailer with Adjustable Spring Hangers
Usually leaf spring hangers have one hole on each side to allow the shackle bolt to run through the eye in the spring and then be secured to the hanger, as on a part like # E4139. But if your hangers have multiple holes to allow a choice of trailer height you can certainly use the lower set of holes to lift the trailer relative to the axle. If you refer to the linked diagram you'll see the recommended minimum clearances for 5th wheel towing. 5-1/4-inches of clearance at the bed rails is...

  • Why Do Trailer Center Suspension Hangers Sometimes Hang at Different Heights
Ideally you want the leaf spring to sit as level as possible on your trailer. Since the equalizer used on the trailer can vary in height sometimes the center hanger will set level with the others or it can hang lower depending on the equalizer used. Going with taller hangers in general will lift the trailer and would give you more axle clearance. The hangers should not end up flexing. I attached a link to a page that has a chart at the top that has all of the hangers we carry with their...

  • How to Install Spring Hangers on Single Axle Trailer
Spring hangers are intended to be welded on. Although you could drill holes in them and bolt them to your trailer, this would affect their capacity to some unknown degree and so this is not recommended.
