Fixed the issue of my 2022 F-150 intermittently not recognizing my trailer which has a BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic brake system. Had towed the same trailer for over 10 years with 2013, 2015, and 2018 F-150s with no issues. However, my 2022 F-150 would initially recognize the trailer, but as soon as I manually applied the trailer brakes or pressed the brake pedal, it would throw a “Trailer Disconnected” message on the dash, and the integrated trailer brake function would not work. Every couple of minutes while driving, the truck would detect the trailer, then display the disconnected message again. Installing this adapter corrected the issue, and now the truck’s brake controller is happy with my trailer — and the brakes work as they should.

This adapter solved my problem. When I installed my Kodiak disc brake conversion kit on my 2019 Arctic Fox, I saw this converter part number lurking on the web site where I purchased said conversion. I asked phone support whether it was necessary, and I got an unequivocal "maybe" along with a "try it without the adapter, and see if it works". I did, and my 2016 Ford F-250 with factory integrated brake controller worked perfectly well (without the adapter). When I replaced 2016 F-250 with a 2025 F-350, I was not so lucky - every time I actuated the manual Brake Slider Bar on the factory integrated brake controller (while connected to the fifth wheel), I got a "trailer disconnected" message, and did not see the typical bar chart indicator of applied brake voltage to the trailer - even though I could hear the hydraulic brake pump on the trailer actuating. After installing this adapter all is good.

I purchased a 2024 F350 and got trailer disconnects when hooking up my Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel with Dexter electronic over hydraulic disc brakes. The trailer would show connected and the trailer gain gauge would not display the gain reading but I could hear the brake actuator hum when pressing foot brake pedal so I knew the brakes were working. If I squeezed the manual trailer brake controller the truck would display trailer disconnected and I did not hear the brake actuator humming. I took the truck to a Ford dealer and they spent several hours reprogramming the brake controller. It did not help. I checked the instructions that came with my BrakeRite electronic/hydraulic actuator/pump. It mentioned that with some Ford& GM trucks a Adapter Module for BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator may be required. I ordered it from Etrailer and installed it promptly. My trailer brake gain is working and I am getting no trailer disconnected messages. I will be towing this week and will report if I have any issues.

by:

i needed these items to repair one of our larger boat trailers. they worked perfectly. Installation was straightforward and bleeding the brakes on all three axles took less than 15 minutes

by:

While the module didn't work, the shipping was quick, and customer service helped me troubleshoot why it didn't work.

Glad we could help you out and you got things up and running again! :) What ended up being the problem?

by:

I have a 2017 Redihaul 25' flatbed trailer with Brakerite E/H brakes & ford/chevy rectangle adapter.
This trailer worked fine on my 2013 Ford F350 but on my 2024 Ford F350 it would give error trailer disconnected every time I stepped on brake pedal even though the brakes were working. I replaced the ford/chevy adapter with this Dexter resister unit and I an no longer getting the annoying trailer disconnected error message. Guess the ford/chevy adapter is outdated for use on newer vehicles.

by:

Did not fix the problem. This is a major issue that GM should be addressing. Most 3500 trucks will be pulling a large trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes. Even though this is a GM problem this part claims it corrects the problem and it did not so $[XX] bucks waisted. Not blaming Etrailer and the person we dealt with was fantastic but this is a review of the part not the company I purchased from.

by:

I installed it and within one hour of use it has already quit working the second one that I have bought the first one I bought in November very disappointed

by:

He must have purchased if you were converting. I have not had any issues with this product since I install 15,000 miles ago.

by:

This part fixed my IBC issue on my 2011 GMC 3500. So happy to finally have the brake working on my RV. Also very please to use my factory controller over hitting my knee on the aftermarket controller.

by:

The brakes work just like they are supposed to.

by:

The product works as designed the only downfall I see is when you let your foot off of the break the pump will still run for an additional three or four seconds

by:

This fixed my problem with the hydraulic brakes not responding as they should. Very simple to wire up.

by:

Worked as advertised. I’d say you need a lil bit of mechanical know how to complete the installation, but it wasn’t really that difficult.

by:

etrailer came through!! I am headed on a trip soon and needed my hydraulic trailer breaks to work of course, and I was worried the adapter would not arrive in time. etrailer's fast shipping saved the day! Thanks etrailer!!!

All is Great

by:

I think we don’t know yet as we just received the controller today. We will write a review when we install. We have high hopes for this product after being let down from GMC truck just spending another hundred dollars on a 83k truck just to pull a trailer.

Great also contacted Riverstone and ask why we were allowed to leave dealership without brakes but that’s another story for new campers. Your product as all your products purchased so far are working well. Thank You for the follow up.

by:

Works great. I just bought a used LQ horse trailer with Electric Over Hydraulic. The previous owner said my factory controller wouldn't work and that I would need an aftermarket controller. I new this was not true as I've used the headlight trick on a borrowed trailer before. This fix is a much better permanent solution than a headlight or brake magnet to simulate a draw.

I didn't mount as suggested. I mounted under the gooseneck next to the junction box and connected to the studs in this box.

After installing a complete Shock & Brakerite Disc Brake conversion kit to my 2017 Silverado 3500HD, I encountered the infamous "Service Trailer Brakes" when connecting the RV. Intensive internet research led me to this device and I was down to the wire to complete the job for an upcoming trip! I placed me order and called. Paula immediately jumped on the order and had the part delivered the NEXT DAY even though I had paid for 2-day shipping! That's stellar customer service!! This part completely fixed the communication issues between the truck & RV and my trip was saved! THANK YOU PAULA!!!

by:

My Riverstone 5th wheel RV and my Silverado 3500 HD truck were not compatible with each other's braking system. I had spoken with the dealer that I purchased my RV from and a representative from the manufacturer and neither were able to tell me what I needed. One call to eTrailer.com was all I needed to have to get the right adapter. Next time I need a part they will be my first xall.

by:

This part solved the issue of “trailer disconnected” on my factory installed brake controller in my 2022 F350. The product info is a bit vague and makes it seem like it’s only needed for older truck brake controllers but I called Dexter directly and they confirmed this part is needed for the modern super duty’s.

by:

Had issues with my 5th wheel disc brakes. Tech told me what to check. Ended up getting a new part. Great help and quick shipping.

by:

Your service was fantastic. The instructions included with the product were a little confusing to understand. I was ready to figure out a way to connect it to the 7 pin harness, when a fellow RV'r steered me to the hyd. pump.

by:

It has done exactly what it was advertised to do. It allows my disk brakes to work as they should. Which, without this part they never worked.

by:

Works like a champ. Thanks for figuring out the shortfall in manufacturering by General Motors and from what I understand, Ford. Brake system now does not cut off.
