Question:
Good Day. I had a specific question on the EHB. The unit I purchased is the Dexter DX82KR I am not having good luck with the controller in my truck working with this unit. I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 with the factory brake controller. Dexter makes two adapters for use with GM / Ford integral brake controllers. 1. DX35FR 2. T4845900 Because my EHB is not the plug and play unit Dexter DX36XR is the adapter module I need the DX35FR or the T4845900? Additional questions – If I wanted to make my EHB a plug and play unit what would I need to do so? Is it possible to buy the harness that the Dexter DX36XR comes with? See picture below I have highlighted the harness I speak of in yellow. Can I purchase these? If so what other harnesses are needed to complete the system? • T4834300 – Wiring Harness • T4834402 – Breakaway Battery Harness • T4834500 – Brake away Switch What harness is used to hook the tow vehicle to the EHB, What harness is used to integrate the breakaway switch and battery? What is the function of the Replacement Harness for Dexter Bakerite Part No T4834300 ? Is this only made to integrate the T4845900 into the system?

Hello Caleb. Since your BrakeRite unit is not the plug-and-play unit, you will need the # DX35FR adapter module.
As far as making your Unit into a plug and play, we actually posed this question to Dexter when they were last here. There is no way to convert your unit to plug-and-play short of replacing the entire unit.
It is worth mentioning, that if you want to avoid using any adapter, you can just replace your GMC factory controller with an EOH compatible aftermarket controller like the Tekonsha P3 # 90195.

Jesse, Thank you for the response. This all makes perfect sense. I do not like the integral brake controller as it constantly sends alarms to the dash info station and dinks for no reason even when a trailer is not hooked up. It constantly states "Trailer Brake System" If I get the Tekonsha can I use the existing wiring that runs back to the bumper?
